I don’t agree with everything that Andy Elliot says in this video but we have to understand that he is in car sales and there are some unique aspects to selling cars. I have not worked in car sales but I have interacted a lot with car dealerships in a professional manner and there are four things which we have to bear in mind. 1). The car sale usually is completed in anywhere from 1 to 3 visits, rarely more than that, so unlike tech sales it’s a short sales cycle., Usually, the prospect has been shopping around for months, but when it comes time to talk with the sales rep, they are ready to in many cases right there and then buy the car, so aggressivity is a must. And in this physical interaction, being very strong and dominant shuffles undecided people into buying mode. Sure it will piss off some people, but it will also convert more people. 2). The curse of car sales is that nothing is happening all day or week or sometimes even all month and then a prospect actually comes in and the sales rep has to go from cold to hot immediately if they want to close the sales. Most tech salespeople and inbound sales in general will be prospecting, handling objections, pitching, and closing multiple times a day. So in car sales it’s not like that, when you pitch multiple times a day you are warm and ready to go, I think this guy is trying to forge assertive personalities that are always ready to sell. 3). There are literally lots of tyre kickers who come to do car buying tourism, so being a bit of an ashole will weed out the tourists, so, in this case, some irritation is a good idea. 4). It’s all about the numbers. Usually by the time a buyer comes to talk to the sales rep they have already been looking at brochures and videos and talking with their friends for months and they are down to a few manufacturers and a few models. Once they take the test drive and are happy with your manufacturer, car colors, and trim which is a deal breaker by the way) then it really comes down to the numbers. Car buyers need the car rep to make the decision easy for them. So really they want to buy but it comes down, more than anything else, to which car dealer is willing to make the process less painful for them. This is where the ROI comes into play, people are not buying fleet cars, they are buying their own car and they usually have to justify their purchase to their spouse usually; so more than anything else the car sales rep does not need advanced closing techniques, rather they need to clarify what car, what color and trim and then make it easy for the prospect to buy from them and be a little assertive to ask for the sale today. Different kettle of fish than tech sales. Of course, for real advanced car sales, the rep should actually be actively prospecting, but most car sales reps do not even know that prospecting and referrals are a thing and of course, this separates the 4 car a month reps from the 40 car sales a month reps.

As a new BDR , who sold cars I will say that car sales and tech sales are very different but very similar when it comes to best practices. In car sales you are steadily leading someone into a sale immediately in that moment. I’d love to have a conversation with you Chris to shed light on this.

Since everyone is talking bad about him I want to say this. I have not paid a dime to Andy Elliot for any course or training. But from all his free car sales videos I have learned how to sell cars in an honest and professional way and I ended up making enough money for my new family. He has only encouraged me to do good things and improve my health and mind. So I don’t get the hate

Glad to hear you learned something from him…but the “I don’t get the hate” part, not sure how you can’t understand it, at least a little bit. He is a bad guy who scammed people at his dealership
@NWRcolten
@NWRcolten 4 күн бұрын
@@MattMacnamara well if that’s true then it needs to be addressed by him but I’ve done plenty of bad things but now I’m trying to do better things for myself and other people. And that’s what I see him doing (helping people) instead of hurting them now. But I have no comment on the scamming things cause I’ve never personally looked into it All I’m saying is people can change and do better and we shouldn’t punish them for that. Now obviously actions still have consequences and if he did truly hurt and scam people then that needs to get figured out.

Car sales are VERY similar to in home hard close sales. If you don’t sell it on the spot the percentage goes down dramatically that you make that sale. That’s obvious. You can’t judge these techniques from the lense of tech sales, it’s not a fair assessment. The cost comparison with the savings on gas was very clear. The customer was just shown that by buying the new vehicle they would actually save $50 a month. It becomes a no brainer. This sales technique is incredibly successful with these types of sales. Same with the wife objection. You let them just leave and talk with their wife they most likely aren’t coming back. You have to OVERCOME that objection right then. Obviously we would NEVER do that in tech sales, but we aren’t talking about tech sales.

Andy's training is essentially Alec Baldwin's speech in GlenGarry Glen Ross and here's how you look at car salesman like Andy: To people like Andy, the car buyer is not the customer, the car buyer is a vessel whose only value is to have as much money extracted out of him as possible and is given as little value as possible for that money. Salesman using Andy's techniques are told to say whatever it takes to make that happen and no, the car buyer's needs are not important. The actual customer is whoever owns that dealership and satisfying their needs which has to do with moving as much metal as possible for as much as they can get for it. Andy's techniques are common in large metro areas with high volume dealerships where the business is all about moving cars and the salesperson and car buyer will likely never meet again. In smaller towns where dealers are not as prevalent, where alienating customers can hurt your business and in higher end cars where buyers have more resources and are smarter, these techniques don't work as well. People who identify their status with owning a trendy car, even if they don't have the resources and credit to support it, are especially vulnerable to sales techniques such as this. If you have little to put down, poor credit and or upside down on a trade in, you have NO negotiating power in this situation, and you will usually come out far worse when you leave the dealership than when you went in. Someone in this position is actually a preferred customer for someone like Andy. The salesman will be high fiving on how bad they rooked you as soon as you leave the lot and at the next sales meeting. You have to be on your guard in a place where salesman with a philosophy of training like Andy's work. It requires, education, lack of emotion and not feeling beholden to them. You also need to be confident in slowing things down and taking control of the transaction. They have to be made to realize that a smaller commission is better than no commission. If they don't, then just walk away.

This guy makes me crazy. I don't do business to consumer sales anymore because of these models and methods. These manipulative sales methods I find to be immoral. One may be successful by the measure of closing, but at what moral cost to one's soul? Manipulation of people, intimidating people, even belittling people into a sale is not cool at all. And I have met plenty of very successful sales people that never do this kind of stuff.
