I am personally a fan of Michelin tyres! First time I put a set on my car they where back then Michelin Pilot sport 2's ever since then I have had Pilot sport 3's and the Pilot super sport, They where my road tyres, when I did a track day at my local circuit with semi slicks either R888 or Kumho V70A if it rained I went in and put the Michelins back on and they would handle wet and mild standing water very very well! Not tried the new ones nor the cup 2 R you have there but I can imagine they are very good! Great topic!

I more of the guy in the category up to 7:45 BTG but the Cup R is not available in my Nissan GTR Sizes, so I tried the Trofeo R at one point to see what it can do compared to Cup 2. Can you switch the CUP 2 with the R without touching the alignment of the GT2 RS. I noticed that when I have ideal tire wear with the CUP 2 and switch to the Trofeo R, I would need to add at least 1° of negative camber to achieve the same type of tire wear? For my personal conclusion, I can say I feel the positive difference between the 2 tires but for what I am using the tire for it does not make sens to pay the 50% premium price to shave of some of the additional seconds around the track. As I suspect this beening similar to the differecne Cup 2 R and classical Cup 2 I will stick to the Cup2 which is the best compromise for me, it seems to last "for ever" and it provides constant performance at a very decent level.
@RobertMitchell4 жыл бұрын
I think for you it’s between the cup2 and the trofeo. Often you need more camber w the trofeo as the sidewalls are softer and in hard corners it rolls over. They both are very reliable tires and I would stick with the one that gives you the best feedback. Often it’s car dependent in terms of weight, power etc. I will say that there have been cars where the cup2 doesn’t work for me such as the xx31 but the trofeo does. I’ve not had a car that the trofeo doesn’t work well for me.

The difference between a Cup2 and a Cup2R is easily 10s difference for the ring. But of course when manufacturers are trying to say "I have the best nurburgring time" they aren't going to mention that by doing that 1 lap on that 1 set of tires, the car is already cooked. Now let's slow it down for the more normal track day driver. If the car can go slightly faster, but at the expense of having to change tires after 20-30 minutes of tracking, is that really a good thing? I'd be much more happy to run all day on normal cup 2 tires, because the biggest room for improvement isn't the tire, it's the person behind the wheel. However, I did hear about some people driving the GT2RS switching on Trofeo Rs. Trofeo's definitely have more grip than cup2's, but seem to be more durable than cup2Rs.

Two others local to me have also had their sets experience complete failure. Total outside 1/2 tread delamination for one within one day. I got a mere 14 hot laps before my thread separated and same happened to the third guy in even laps than me. We were just sold a bad batch between us all of us? Anecdotally, another local with a C8 he had in California experienced the same thing last year on multiple sets lasting only a couple/few sessions. Is no one else experiencing this with this tire? They also have proven to be a fair bit slower than GYSC3R in my experience…in fact, I never turned a single hot lap on the GY in any conditions that were as slow as my fastest CupR lap.

Equip the 720s "Track Pack" with those tires and use a professional driver, and I guarantee you it will destroy the 911GT RS nurburgring lap record. A 765LT isn't even needed. As I've always stated, DRIVER SKILLS and TIRES play a significant role in racing (especially around tracks, where the margin for error is greater).
@RobertMitchell4 жыл бұрын
I do not think that the 720s will beat the GT2RS MR... The 765 MAYBE however the 720s has some lift off oversteer issues at the full limit that you would need to correct with aero before being able to go as fast as the MR in the turns.
