Not necessarily. With that specific device, yes, it is wasteful. But you can harvest water from air through the natural cooling at night. It's called dew. But of course it all comes down to volume. Many por countries have managed to create small water harvesters. This is a high-tech solution to a low tech problem.

At 0:06:00 you talk about a condensing system that can give close to three gallons of water a day. I live in Florida and on the most humid days my 350watt dehumidifier can only produce a little over 2 gallons with a forced air system. These "condensation" water source things ONLY work where there's high humidity and won't function at all under 65% so are absolutely worthless where there isn't available water for much simpler reverse osmosis filtration.

Funny, we have been running the water from our dehumidifier through a filter for almost 15 years. Nothing new, just a gadgety, expensive box. But hopefully it will get people thinking about it. Unfortunately all areas facing water shortages live in very arid climates and there is little moisture in the air to be extracted. In those cases, it is far too costly to use this technology.

Man, that "spout" and similar have been debunked 1000 times by ThunderF00t and lesser humans. It's basically a glorified dehumidifier, which creates the problem that a) the (initial) harvest is unfit for human consumption and more importantly b) it'll be useless where it could _actually_ help. Even in the Carribeans, blessed with high humidity, I don't see a lot of people that have the funds for both an expensive dehumidifier _and_ the necessary tools to actually make the harvest potable.

Hurricane Harvey's damage was due to the storm being caught along a front moving south, causing the storm to stall out over the city. I live in Houston. It was being talked about for days before the storm hit. The winds were far from the problem. It was the storm surge (along the coast) and the rain further inland. And given that this low lying, swampy type territory, it tends to not recede very quickly.

Condensing moisture from the air for drinking purposes is the exact same thing as drinking rain water, and that's not recommended because the air is full of pollutants you can't filter out, like VOCs and nanoparticles. Besides, the elites all drink distilled tap water, a much better alternative. I started distilling my water a couple years ago because I got tired of lugging bottles up to my apartment from the store, and after seeing (and smelling) all the crud left behind after just one 4 liter cycle of distillation, I was convinced that I did the best thing for my health.
