UPDATE: The 5540 and 5510 palm rests are not the same. There's only a few mounting points that don't line up. Won't need a 5540 LCD. The battery is also not compatible. Bottom cover is, keyboard is, and the TouchPad is. I'll be sending back the 5510 palmrest, selling the 5510 motherboard, and sending back the 5510 battery, then I will obtane the necessary parts to make my precision into a 5540. :)

It's great to see people refurbish electronics like this. Otherwise a great laptop like that would go to waste. I bought a Lenovo Legion 5, With the AMD ryzen 5 4600h, gtx 1660ti, 500gb NVMe SSD and 8gb 3200MHZ ram (upgrading to 16gb soon) for $400 because the display wasn't working. This thing is in mint condition and the only thing wrong was a ribbon cable came loose. What a steal lol. Kind of feel bad that someone sold a great laptop for that cheap but then again they couldn't be bothered to fix it I guess. and believe it or not it is still in warranty!

Can it be used for programming, networking?

Unless you code video games or 3D programs, it will work great! It doesn’t have the most cutting edge hardware, but most programming and networking requires very little resource demand.

I found one with like 16gb of ram and i7 6820hq for 399€ should I try to lower the price and get it or is it better to buy some ThinkPad T490s with 32GB of Ram and i7-8665u

Hey buddy are you still using this Laptop as your main? I'm contemplating buying in since it's compatible to Ubuntu. Dells are VERY Linux Friendly. You did a good job. Don't be nervous. :)

Thank a lot! I am not still using this laptop. I turned it into a precision 5540 and sold it back in January of this year. But I know for a fact it performs greatly with Linux! One of the best ones I’ve ever used for sure.

I didn’t ever use premiere on this system, however if you have any NVIDIA option of this laptop, it should run pretty well. I’d have to say probably not very well in after effects.
