I just repaired a gtx 1080 i got from a friend so thanks for the learnings i got from you. also jus curious what was the job of the inductor in this circuit
@TechCemetery3 жыл бұрын
I originally misread your question and had to rewrite the following reply. In this case the inductor is just used for input filtering, it prevents AC current from passing to the Buck Converter.

Dude, you are AWESOME! Firstly I respect people who still fix things, either by themself or have the broken item repaired by someone else. There is enough disposable s***t filling this planet already. Secondly it is obvious that you have so much experience in repairing graphic cards and whatnot that you have no significant problem with diagnosing a motherboard. I´ve learned a lot by wathcing just maybe four of your videos. I came across your chanel due to the failure of my 1080 RTX. Thanks to your video, I was able to repair it. So keep up the good work and I hope you the very best!

Also about motherboard repair i think it's kinda rare to find some youtuber repairing motherboard, so i could say it's your opportunity and it's up to you, i enjoy watching your troubleshooting and explanation tho. Aside from that i think most people would enjoy watching some experiments like unlocking the intel 100 chipset bios to support 9th gen CPU, or maybe i've ever heard someone actually sticking ECC memory on the 1150 motherboard and it's working normally.

Usually the pin number 8 on bios chip is vcc. Also you can take it out and program it with an eeprom programmer. I've 3 of them. But a chip CH341A will do fine for BIOS chips. And I suggest you to put an Inductor back in place because it will prevent of rush current going through.

Nice, btw i got rx 550 for only $5 from my friend, it's powering on and detected normally on GPU Z when im using IGP, but no display or anything on the GPU video out. Is this problem actually because of the display IC near the bios chip or what? I still have my old R9 270 tho but it's power hungry and i want to retire this card with the more efficient one, probably for short term until the GPU shortage finished

@@accurian148 Can you run any games on it via "Graphics settings" under windows when used as a secondary GPU?. If you don't know, graphics settings allows you to pick which GPU is used for certain programs. You can manually select the RX 550 on a per game basis provided you link it correctly to the game's executable file.
@accurian1483 жыл бұрын
@@TechCemetery I've try that after watching linus video about nvidia p106 video. I would say yes but it's a little bit complicated, i could only choose either intel hd or the rx 550 based on the driver i installed. If i only installed the rx 550 driver the performance crappy af and the gpu never run on full power, but when i installed intel hd driver or both driver installed the rx 550 suddenly gone on setting, can't be used for anything, just sitting doing nothing.
@TechCemetery3 жыл бұрын
@@accurian148 Wow, I'm kind of stumped actually. What RX 550 is it?. Right off the bat, I'm curious if you have power on your display ports. DVI uses 5V, HDMI uses 5V, and DisplayPort uses 3.3V. You can find the pinouts for them on google. I mention this because the drivers for GPU VRMs and memory VRMs often heavily rely on 5V in one way or another.

I got my hands on a dead zotac 1080ti extreme amp a week ago. I thought there was a short in the vrms but that was just my meter measuring the die. So I removed all mosfets then put them back and one died afterwards, so I removed 4 which were short. Yes I do feel dumb xd. Right now 1.8 is present, die heats up a bit and vrms warm without heat sinks but no display or detection. I'll try to see if I can have it serviced even if that means paying zotac. Any thoughts?
@TechCemetery3 жыл бұрын
Heh, no need to feel stupid, I've probably killed more cards than half of my viewers put together. If in future you think you have a short on the VRM, I recommend you take off the inductors instead of the MOSFETs as reinstalling the MOSFETs can sometimes be difficult and if it's even slightly off center it can short and kill the GPU. As for your actual card, do you have all voltages and what is the resistance across the 1.8V, 1V and memory phase?. If you have a short in any of those rails, it's often a good indicator that you have a dead GPU.

Nice job, very helpful. I'm repairing a MSI Z390 MEG ACE, which is a beast and deserves to be brought back to life. I've got a question that you may be able to answer, and save this world the travesty of losing a high-end board...or at least offer a best-guess. I can get the board to power on by jumpering the 24-pin connector from the backside of the motherboard, meaning bridge pins 4 and 5 (same as paperclip method to test a psu...but while connected to the mobo). I have to do that because the power switch header is not working correctly. The board powers up correctly doing this header bypass trick and everything seems to work. I can even turn off the board by using the power header once I have 12V rails fired up. I'm fairly certain this is a 5V standby power issue as that is what drives the soft-start circuit...especially since the standby power LED won't light up either. My best guess is it's a transistor issue on the 5V rail. Maybe I'm getting current in one direction but not the other. Honestly, a lot of great boards fail this way. Some cheap 5V component goes out and a very expensive motherboard is tossed in the garbage. Any ideas?

I had a strange issue with a Z490 Tomahawk where plugging in a USB cable into a PCIe USB card caused my PC to stop turning on. Tried powering it with Power SW but nothing happened (no PSU fan spin). Reckon it could be a similar issue to this?
@bluethumbdiy47353 жыл бұрын
You mostly likely suffered short on the 5V rail somewhere on the motherboard due to the PCEe card. PCI ports use 3.3V, 5V, and also 12V. A USB card in a PCI port will tap the 5V rail for power. It likely pulled too much current and a component burned out. If your lucky, you can find a smoked component and replace it. Otherwise, lots of testing to find out what actually went bad. Sucks...
