I personally just upgraded from i5 2500 to i7 2600K, mere months ago. Together with the 1060 6gb, and 16GB RAM, this nearly a decade old war horse's still kicking fine. I was quite happy with the previous CPU already, but the HT + OC capabilities definitely are going to become more and more desirable. Especially in case of emulation.
@GugureSux5 жыл бұрын
Not even doubting that. Especially when the visuals really aren't improving at alarming rate any more, and you practically need to turn off most of the filters & shit to make some of the modern titles look tolerable.

This is same upgrade for me. Only got the i7 at 4.3ghz though as was bluescreening. I’m currently wondering if it will be good enough to upgrade to a 1440p monitor or not? I have mine with a Vega 56 I recently upgraded from a 7950
@GugureSux5 жыл бұрын
Seeing how V56 is nearly 2x faster in some benchmarks compared to GTX1060, I do think that 1440p would be quite doable. I'd personally rather go with a 144hz screen than higher resolution, but those are subjective matters.
@markymoo225 жыл бұрын
@@GugureSux Ahh, didn't know that it was so much better. My 7950 was hardly used and only just come back to PC gaming so wasn't saying it to show off. I can get 120hz over hdmi with a hdmi/dvi connector. However on an older version of Radeon as if I update to latest software version, I only get option for 60hz. So currently on 1080p 120hz Be nice if I don't take too much of a hit going up to 1440p
@GugureSux5 жыл бұрын
Going up the resolution is always going to demand more from your card, but 1440p is something like a "lower tier of the hi-end PC gaming folks" these days. As in, pretty easily achieved if you know what you're doing. However, most 1440p monitors are still "just" 60hz, meaning you'd be practically halving your maximum clearly distinguishable performance, which MAY feel a bit jarring. And the few 1440p + 144hz monitors are not only more expensive, but will also stress your machine exponentially more. Obviously the games you play, and settings you use matter a lot in the overall image quality / performance calculations. If you're OK with lower resolutions and/or performance values, or don't need everything to be at "Ultra" settings, 1440p gaming at higher refresh rates is quite doable.

I enjoy this content a lot. One of the reasons is I missed a lot of "tech news" from 2010 till around 2017; I was supper happy with my prebuilt Gateway with 8gb ram and Phenom 2 x4 805 running 4 monitors with 2 512mb graphics cards . I began using it for my side hustle in 2014, and found it was struggling to keep up. I jumped into a new FX8320 system from I Buy Power (GTX 750, 16gb ram). I was thrilled with this system as it worked amazing for video rendering and content production for my business. So why do I like this kind of content? Because I NEVER followed Intel. I have been so happy with anything AMD since my Athlon 64 FX system purchased in 2003 (lasted 10 years). It's always been about the budge for me. Anything made with Intel was typically $200 more over what AMD would price it at. These videos help to catch me up in the history of Intel since I never was able to spend the money on a better system. I enjoy seeing the longevity of these systems and components. Many times when I search for history on a computer part, I find a Tech Deals video from 2016 explaining it clearly to me. Thank you for what you do Tech, keep these system comparisons coming. I learn so much from your experience and work.

Now I have R7 1700x that I god a good deal with and single core performance is similar, but those extra cores help in some use cases. When I was buying that GPU it was really worth to pay a little bit more compared to 1070 as it was a time when it was better to mine on 1070 (if I remember correctly due to different memory type?). So yeah, I planned to buy rx580, but run out of stock, then looked at 1060, but was mad that I get less performance for more money compared to RX, so I stubbornly refused to buy it and skipped that thing. Then I was about to put almost twice as much for 1070, but found out that 1080s are not much more expensive and jumped for it as I knew things are going only to get worse. 😝 It was 4 or more years ago and I am very happy about that purchase. Just a few months back I still could sell it for the money I paid, the other thing is that those money does not present this same value, but this is a topic for another story. 😕

Great video and was pleased to see a video on probably one of the best CPU's Intel made in a long time. Thank You!! A lot of these CPU's would do 4.6GHz easy enough and 4.7-4.8GHz on good samples. Then there were the golden Samples that would do 5.0GHz with a bit of pushing. Then there were those 2% that would hit 5.1GHz with some extra push and good cooling. My own i7 2600K I call it my Super Golden Sample because it does 5.1GHz @1.48 volts and if you want to be safe 5.0GHz@1.45 volts. I have also run it at 5.2GHz for testing only with voltage of 1.51 volts. I have also been able to boot into Windows and run a few quick benches at 5.3GHz with voltage of 1.53 volts it is not even close to 100% stable for daily use and if pushed to long at 5.3GHz the temps will climb up fairly quickly. I think if these older gen Sandy Bridges and probably the IVy's are the same would allow for the L3 cache to be lowered like the newer gen Intel CPU's my CPU probably could do 5.3GHz but I am sure I am running into L3 cache just running out of steam and causing problems with stability at 5.3GHz and some extra heat and more voltage required. As for my memory I got some 1600MHz DDR3L 1.35v four 8GB sticks for 32GB total installed that will run at CL8,8,8@1600MHz 1.35volts. I run this memory @2250MHz 1.60volts CL9,10,10. The memory speed is weird because the i7 2600K at least mine anyways and with my memory only allows for 2133MHz top setting so I had to get creative with the FSB to get more memory speed. This also can give a whole lot of other problems if you are not careful as most probably already know. If I do the Aida64 benchmarks for thing like memory I get some pretty decent results and the latency test is pretty impressive well at least to me. It always gives me between 42ns-43ns which places my system at the top of the chart in that test. My memory scores are decent as well for it only having DDR3 installed and of coarse new systems with high speed DDR4 will do better but remember this system was built in 2011 but has had me doing a lot of tweaks to squeeze every bit of performance out of it. Now I know my system would not push a 2080Ti to it's max so even if they were cheaper it would not be smart of me to buy that GPU and not upgrade my system. I have been told though that my system probably would push a 1080Ti to near max or maybe max so I was maybe thinking on getting a 2080 for it which probably could get pushed fairly good in my system and then when I decide to buy one of those AMD Ryzen 3000 CPU's I am sure to push a 2080 to it's max. I guess that is if those 3000 Ryzen's pan out to be as good as eveyrone is hoping they will be. My plan is buy a Ryzen 3000 series with at least 8/16 setup and if the rumors hold true either a 10/20 or 12/24 setup. I have already picked up some Team Group Dark Rock Pro 3200MHz CL14 memory 32GB's which should do 3600MHz CL15 or 3466MHz CL14. I already checked it has the Samsung memory on them so I know these will work as intended. I also picked up a Team Group NVMe PCI-e 3.0x4 1TB Drive to the new system both were on a sale so a great price. Besides that with the Memory companies proclaiming they are going to cut supplies so the prices will go up I thought it best to buy these ASAP before we get into another price hike session for a year or two.

Today I by chance found a gaming computer in the trash room, took off the cpu fan, and it was a, you guessed it right, a i7-2600k. The computer is missing some stuff, but the case is a cooler master and the PSU have 650W. So there is a foundation for building a gaming pc.

Hello Mr Tech - Loved the video and thank you for making and posting it. Only one thing I would like to highlight: the 2600K all core turbo is 3.5, not 3.8 . I think the culprit is that ASUS (and maybe some other?) boards used to have (up the 4th gen i think) the "ACE" (All Core Enhancement) feature, granting the single core boost to all core load as well (until uncle Intel told them off, and they had to erase that feature via BIOS updates). So, in a Gigabyte board, my 2600K sat at 3.5, unless I overclocked it (which I did, and currently it runs at 4.5, with around 1.35V, just as you have suggested). The point is, that the jump from 3.5 to 4.5 is more noticeable, and for those uf us with a board lacking the ACE feature, manual overclocking is even more relevant.

VR Mark is the biggest boost on overclocking (118%), Fire Strike and PC Mark are the second (114%), Time Spy is the fourth (108%). Not Fire Strike > VR Mark > Time Spy > PC Mark. 3,8 GHz to 4,5 GHz is 18% more, so VR Mark use the full CPU overclocking power.

I upgraded from a 2600K to a 9900K, and the difference in games was huge, not in framerate(though there was a big difference), but in average frame time varience, games just feel much smoother and snappier... and being able to edit video in realtime, and encode video in less time than the videos length is really nice, but in just watching youtube or movies, or basic tasks, there's no real difference...

They're very similar, slight IPC improvement at the same clock, but IIRC sandy bridge overclocks better due to thermal limitations since ivy bridge was the start of Intel using toothpaste to attach the IHS (not literally of course, but prior to ivy bridge they soldered on the IHS which resulted in better heat dissipation). The numbers should be extremely comparable.
