My first emulator was a Dingoo A320 from Chinavasion for $100! That was maybe 15 years ago if i had to guess? It barely played Snes. These handhelds have came a very long way since then. I got lucky and my next handheld was a Retroid Pocket 4 Pro... I was off to the races after that and now I have a Mini + and an A30 and soon to be a few more I'm sure. I really appreciate these videos from the tech help to the bond you feel having something in common with someone else. I don't have a lot of people in my life into emulators so its nice to just sit back and watch/listen. Thanks Dweeb.

I've been in the retro emulation scene for almost longer than I can remember, really. Figuring out how to use Nesticle and Genecyst to play NES and Genesis games on a Pentium 1 when I was like 8, etc. My first 'emulation handheld' was a hacked PSP with custom firmware on it. That little thing was so great for GBA games. Currently my two favorites are the Steam Deck and the TrimUI Smart Pro. I bought the TSP partly because of your videos on it, and now I freaking love that thing! 😁

@@YOUR_NARRATOR975 Sure is, lol. It and Genecyst were made by the same guy. Their interfaces were weird too, and sorta gorey? Nesticle had plain blue menus, but its mouse cursor was a severed bleeding hand. Genecyst had a normal arrow for a mouse cursor, but the menus themselves were red and dripping blood. The weird titles and theming didn't matter at the end of the day, though. The most important thing is that they were small, DOS-compatible, and just worked. They were that breed of emulator that's basically composed of a collection of hacks for each game, a bit like ZSNES. Which means they were *suuuper* hardware-inaccurate, but ran on a potato and could play many games at full speed with no major problems.

Tech Dweeb, man… I gotta tell you. I started drinking Diet A&W Root Beer because you kept featuring it in your videos. Like, I’m drinking one right now as I watch this video, with my two chicken pot pies. Yes, two - both for me. One just doesn’t do it for me anymore. Anyways, I can’t believe how good the diet version is! I never would have given it a second thought, but a few months ago I quit sugar soda and I wondered if I could actually successfully make the switch… And now here we are! There are others I’ve found that aren’t bad, but heck if diet A&W isn’t the best diet soda out there… So thanks for having those beautiful silver cans surrounded by icosahedrons in your videos so much, that cozy image right there… may have saved my life. *dramatic music*

I'm starting to think this is the best handheld to get for someone as a gift for christmas since it seems to be the best beginner handheld running all the retro stuff pretty much flawlessly. Along with not being too expensive or too crazy. I think around 60 dollars is a good range for gifting.

i loved the RGB10max2! i had that, it was discreet and stylish too with its little powkiddy ninja logo on the back! i even love the rk2023! then the rgb30!!! powkiddy have been sort of improving their design!! I expected the X55 to be the rgb10max3!!! so powkiddy sort of on a roll lol.... now the conundrum is rgb30 v the now 2 new rg cubes!!!? i seem to like the powkiddys and definitely dont see the problems with the clicky buttons or build and i love my highend tech.... still love my sf2000 frog too!!!! getting updated once internet archive comes back online!

My first handheld was the ps1 themed og retroid pocket 2 it's a great device and was a difficult experience getting it set up partly because the built in software on the SD card broke a few months into use so I had to figure out RetroArch and where to aquire the games, it's definitely hard to find safe sites and stuff for the bios/roms and using Android 5 with really low end hardware is awful but still to this day it is the best built device I've ever used it plays up to ps1 perfect, if you want to get a starter handheld Linux looks like the way to go, if you're interested in one get one around 50$ they are great because if it breaks or something the next year will have new ones at that price range but they'll have a better CPU/ram/gpu at that price with better emulation

That's a tough call. I think it depends how much work you're willing to put in. If you get the MM+ with the pre-made Onion SD card then that's good to go out of the box (like I show in this vid kzbin.info/www/bejne/qHTdd5mHbK-Jaqc). Otherwise the 10X is a great choice because it comes ready to go with good game sets, however it doesn't have first party Nintendo games which you'd have to add yourself. I'd lean towards the MM+, but both are great choices though.

B550m boards will work out of the box with the ryzen 3600, *most* B450m boards as well. A quality 600w PSU should be plenty for this combo, 650w+ if you want extra headroom for upgrades. 5700xt used to be a 1440p GPU about 4 years ago... nowadays it is a 1080p GPU.

I've got the ARC S from Anbernic. I like it, but I don't LIKE like it, because the stock firmware is lacking and Retro Arena doesn't run Dreamcast or MAME games particularly well. There's potential here, though. Frankly I'm amazed that I've got a handheld that plays Saturn. I certainly wasn't getting any of that action from the $20 Data Frog, heh.

Custom firmware support is weird. The important ones, ArkOS and AmberElec, work really well on here. Rocknix support is not yet out but dev side is active on fixing that. Also, quick notes: it smells kinda bad. Anbernic handhelds have a more pleasant smell. Whether that matters, I don't know. The single speaker is less than amazing especially when it isn't very crisp - compared to the Anbernic 35xxp's single speaker - and it's unclear which grille it speaks out of, and thus you can't silence it easily with your thumbs.

Also if you attach a WiFi dongle to its OTG port, the speaker has noise coming out. A heads-up.

A few reasons to consider this. 35XX-H is about $20 more than this. This is lighter (better in the pocket). This has an Emulation Station frontend instead of Anbernic's OS (which many prefer).
