Hi TGT or anyone, please help me understand. On APS-C I understand how you have to calculate the crop factor into the focal length and aperture ratings. And I understand how this will affect perceptual mega pixels as opposed to FF. My question is when the EOS RP crops when in 4K video. I understand on the EOS RP it will affect focal length, but does it also affect aperture like in APS-C cameras?

The only problem of the 6400 is getting wide FOV unfortunately like any crop sensor. It’s kind of important for a lot of youtubers. It’s kind of impossible to get wide and blurred on crop sensors.

Interesting. Every video I've made in the past 3 years was shot on a crop sensor. I've never felt that it's a limiting factor. Of course I understand the FF could offer a shallower DOF but with the proper lenses and technique - a crop sensor has worked well for me. Full frame is full frame. There are looks on the full frame that can't be replicated on an APS-C sensor no matter how good that cropped sensor is. As a photography camera, the RP is great. I wouldn't get it for video (because of how it doesn't have DPAF in 4K). I have the EOS R and love it so much for both photography and video. My secondary camera is the 6D2 and the RP wasn't enough of a change to consider switching my secondary.
@TechGearTalk5 жыл бұрын
I really liked the R. A lot of people gave it a really tough time when it first came out and I'm not sure why. I address that in my first impressions video of the EOS R. I can totally see not upgrading from the 6D2 (another great camera) to the RP. Do you use RF lenses or adapter EF?
@onlysublime5 жыл бұрын
I'm strictly using the control ring EF adapter with EF and EF-S lenses. Such a nice ability to use both EF and EF-S lenses. The 10-18 mm EF-S has image stabilization and all EF-S lenses are budget friendly. The control ring is amazing, and I can't imagine not having the control ring anymore. I haven't purchased any RF lenses yet because they're so expensive. I did try them out and they're beautiful. But out of budget for now. My next lenses are 70-200 (which will be RF), a 35 mm 1.4 (which will hopefully be RF), and a macro lens (mostly likely the 100 mm EF one). I do want to get the ND filter adapter as well. However, it's disappointing to know that I will be losing the control ring when using the ND filter adapter. The other disappointment is knowing that the ND filter adapter doesn't come with a clear filter so the idea of having to swap adapters is pretty bad.

Sounds like you've put a lot of thought into this - I like it!

"Full frame is full frame" Your comment which is completely true is also a little misleading as obviously there is a point where a Full Frame camera will be able to get a shallower DOF that the APS-C cannot match unless you can find a lens with a super small f-stop but in general if you calculate the crop factor you can get the same image, both field of view and DOF in a APS-C camera. i.e. FF 75mm @ f2.8 produces the the same image as APS-C (1.5x crop) 50mm @ f1.8 - you would also have different ISO settings to match exposure.

Using the version 2 firmware on the a6400, there is also a simple time-lapse in the S&Q mode, but it is limited to a 1 fps record to a 1080p result file. The advantage is that it is, well, simple. The more advanced method of recording individual frames and creating the more varied files externally is still available. I would have preferred a direct to 4K time-lapse, and I would also like a 1.5 second interval (which I have not seen on any camera, but then again I have not looked at "all of them"), but at least "it's something. . . ."

The Canon RP just killed off the APS-C sensor market over $1200. Once you try FF for photography, you will never go back. What’s the best for using a CamLink to record via Final Cut?
@TechGearTalk4 жыл бұрын
I've never recorded via final cut, but both cameras will work with a camlink. You can also save money and get one of these: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZrQZ6lor6mEg5I Hope that helps. Thanks for being part of the channel!

I currently have a Canon 6D, which is really showing it's age. Having a REALLY hard time between these 2 cameras. The only lense I have for Canon, is the nifty fifty, so not super invested. I primarily shoot my family, and getting tired of out of focus shots while playing games with my kids. I'm nervous about going crop sensor after having full-frame, but good pictures is most important to me... any suggestions on which would be better here? Thanks - your videos are oustanding!

With the new firmware update, which one would you prefer? In the past week I’ve been leaning towards the RP but recently I’ve been seeing a lot of great photos from the a6400 since I mainly take photos (with a little video). I do like the canon R results as well as the a7iii but those are wayyy too expensive for me so it came down to these two lol

Tech Gear Talk I’ve been leaning towards Sony but the color science and the fact that it’s a little too small of a body with a lot of buttons holds me back a bit. My budget is 1000-1200 and as of right now the RP is back up to 1200 I believe which bums me out, should I save up to buy one of the higher end Sony’s or canons?

Hi. I want to buy a camera for dental photography (intra-oral), based on my budget finally i have to choose between these two options 1. Sony a6400 with FE 90mm f/2.8 Macro G OSS lens, 2. Canon EOS RP with Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro (Obviously using an adaptor), which one is your recommendation? Thanks for your help.

@TravelDigitalNomad3 жыл бұрын
@@sahindavidoff3098 videography is superb. Of course you need the right lenses (with stabilisation). If you don‘t like to work with tripots, you‘d be better adviced with the sony a6600, which has IBIS - just for a better performance without a tripot. Rolling shutter is there, but no factor for wildlife in my eyes.

Always enjoy your reviews. They are clear and informative. The review is not 3 year old but still worth watching. I use my RP with the EF-EFS adapter so that I can use my Canon DSLR lenses. I did purchase the 24-195 kit lens and the 16mm lens. When using EFS lenses I get a vignette but if i use the crop setting in the RP it goes away. The one critique I have of the video is when you and many others use the profile shot and do not look at the camera! I have heard that it is to avoid viewer fatique. But in my view it is rude and I call it the rude profile. I think it is rude because if me and you were talking you would not look away. I know, it is some kind of filming technique but that does not make it right. I would presume a really progressive videographer would include a shoot of the back of the head! Why not? Aside from that vent, good video.

Curious why this comparison wasn’t the Sony a7c vs the RP being both FF sensors (unless the 7c wasn’t available at time of recording). How is an APSC vs FF sensor any type of fair comparison? Kinda weird

I really appreciated your videos, very informative and helpful. But I have do disagree 1 thing. You said A6400 will perfome better in low light than RP. No way. Crop APSC sensors have never been better in low light than a full frame sensor, no matter how good the software is or how good noise reduction algorithm is. Yes, it can denoise so good, but lost a lot of details, when we zoom in, The clearer image look clean but plastic and lifeless, and we can not call this "better". Thank you ;)
@TechGearTalk4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words 🙏🏻. I’m curious, are you saying that no aps-c sensor isn’t better than any FF sensor ever?
@LongCaoOfficial4 жыл бұрын
Tech Gear Talk thank you. Some old ff sensor like the Canon 5D was not very good and maybe could be beaten by some new gen apsc. But in the same or close generations, I think no Apsc could be better than a ff in term of iso. I have test low light capability of the A6500 vs the old Canon 6D and the 6D easy blow a6500 out of water in term of keeping details at high iso, at least 1,5 stops better. Yes, the newer apsc could be better in a lot of terms, but not at high iso. Because this is what full frame was born for. ;)

Are there cons for the RP not having a built in flash? I’m deciding between these 2 cameras and coming from a Nikon d5100- which had a built in flash.
@TechGearTalk4 жыл бұрын
I look at it as a function of how much you actually use that flash. For me, when I need light, it's always off-camera, so it's not a big deal. But this is really because of how I use the camera. Thoughts?
