I used the dental device for about five years. It worked to control most of my snoring due to sleep apnea, however, using this device messed up my bite to the point where I could not chew food because my jaw had been moved forward permanently and my back teeth no longer touched to allow chewing. I was told that if I bit on a rubber device each morning, it would put my lower jaw back in place. It did not do the job. I had to get a CPAP to treat the sleep apnea and when went to a holistic dentist to move my palate forward to create more space in the back of the throat and according to my dentist, the lower jaw will follow the movement of the upper jaw with the help of "pillows" that are put on the lower back teeth. After all of this is accomplished - braces to put my teeth back in their proper place. Nice, huh? All because of that dental device. FYI, when I went for the sleep apnea test to get a CPAP, the technician commented that many of her patients had the same problem with the dental device. Beware.

Yep I tried one of these type of products and immediately noticed discomfort. I was told just to keep using it and I would get used to it. I found I would end up removing it most nights as it was so painful that I couldn't get to sleep in the first place. I ended up returning it for a refund. I know that using a CPAP would mean II wouldn't be able to sleep with it on either, I'm a stomach and side sleeper but generally have to fall asleep on my stomach. I recall seeing a surgical option years ago that inserted somthing to stiffen the soft tissue so that it couldn't vibrate to cause the snoring. Does that stop the issue of sleep apnea? Who knows.

@Spironic
@Spironic 6 жыл бұрын
@Steve Sherman Evidence: "The ACP’s first recommendation centers on weight loss for people who are overweight and obese. The link between excess weight and sleep apnea is well established. People who are overweight have extra tissue in the back of their throat, which can fall down over the airway and block the flow of air into the lungs while they sleep. Though losing weight is easier said than done, it can yield real results. 'If we can get people to lose weight, it would make both sleep apnea and other health problems [such as heart disease] go away,' says Dr. Epstein. Losing just 10% of body weight can have a big effect on sleep apnea symptoms. In some cases, losing a significant amount of weight can even cure the condition." www.health.harvard.edu/blog/weight-loss-breathing-devices-still-best-for-treating-obstructive-sleep-apnea-201310026713 Are you claiming to be a person of science, yet rejecting years of research from Harvard Med? I had a sleep study done in February. I had 122 apneas in one hour. I stopped breathing 122 freaking times in one hour. They woke me up during my study to put me on emergency c-pap bc my AHI wasn’t even on the chart, it’s considered severe continuous apnea. I was expedited a dream station 2 cpap machine and I got the nasal mask. It’s so comfortable and I really like it. I’ve slept better than I ever have. The most apneas I had since, was only 7 apneas an hour or less. Compared to 122, I’m sticking with the cpap. I’ve heard the mouthguard is extremely uncomfortable and after time can shift your teeth and jaw. Some people say they have to reset their jaws in the morning.

The mouthpiece is more for milder sleep apnea. However, just like CPAP, it is a band-aid approach just like CPAP. There is also a UVVV surgery that is pretty dangerous and doesn't always have the greatest results. You can also check for swollen turbinates and a deviated septum at the ENT doctor (which is my issue presently, pending surgery for both). As a *warning* for those who consider a mouthpiece...these things *CAN* make your teeth move and mess your bite up, requiring dental work later. To me, that's not worth it.

Lester Carter They did the same to me. I made it 2 hours before they put me in that machine. Then, I tried every attachment that they had for it and none of them worked. It was awful. I would yank the thing off halfway through the night in my sleep. I’d wake up in the morning and it would be on the floor blowing air everywhere but into my face. I finally gave up. I’m currently waiting for a mouthpiece to see if it helps. The only other option for me would be surgery.

My husband is not overweight. He snores when he sleeps on his back and his mouth drops open. When he sleeps on his side, with the proper pillow, the snoring stops. Only problem is that I have to nudge him through the night to roll onto his side. My sleep is suffering so much from waking up to his snoring. How do I know? I discovered that I’m well rested and alert when he’s away on business trips. No interrupted sleep on those nights!

I've been using my mouth pieces for about 5 years, sleeping is never a problem, zero snoring since. They do work. I just stopped repositioning my jaw every morning. I can't chew with my molars very well because they don't come together anymore, but it's only slightly annoying. Totally worth it. In fact, if I forget to put my mouth pieces in, my jaw stays forward and I can sleep just fine for a couple of days before it starts to go back to normal. These things are extremely expensive, or were when I got mine anyway, but they do last of you take care of them. To be clear, my dentist prepared about 8 different devices for me to try where I got the best sleep. I had about 8 appointments over several months. This isn't something you want to cheap out on.

I already bought lots of snoring solutions on Amazon in the past but in my opinion the nose vents definitely stand out in quality (very soft material/BPA free) and effectivity. I actually prefer 'the original nose vents of Flowland' because I was suprised that I got 2 cases with 8 vents for a fraction of the price (while I don't feel or see any difference at all with the original one of Snorecare … I compared them because I was curious). So now I keep one case at home, and 1 for travelling. I also tested it out of curiosity with the snorelab app on my iphone and there was a real difference for several nights in a row (almost no loudness with the nose vents in). It’s a free app and it’s very straightforaward to use (you can even hear your own snoring!)

Very interesting. You forgot a couple things though. Obstructive sleep apnea has been proven to be one of the major causes of Alzheimer, Parkinson's and other neurodegenerative diseases. Where as someone might be genetically predisposed to having dementia or Parkinson's, OSA will compound the situation greatly. Almost all neurodegenerative diseases can be linked to sleep apnea and the lack of REM sleep. I use a CPAP and I hate it. I was wondering what the price is on this because I have tried a dozen or so mouth guards that try and push the lower jaw forward.

What i always do before going to sleep is close my mouth and push my tongue to my hard pallet to create a suction that will prevent my tougue from blocking my pharynx. I've been doing it since i was young and i am unconsciously doing it before sleeping everytime. The problem is, my tongue sometimes sticks to my hard pallet and lower teeth as well as my upper lip to lower lip due to dried saliva, but it's fine, id rather have that every morning than suddenly waking up every night because i can't breathe😅

yah the problem with the mouth peace is it gives you incredibly dry mouth and ultimately causes teeth issues like cavities because your teeth aren't submerged in saliva over night, just out to dry. The best solution is jaw and neck exercise that are designed to strengthen the muscles in that area and reduce floppiness, and lose fat in that area as well. Incredibly effective.

One thing to add though (I myself have very bad sleep apnea, and use a mouthpiece, which has removed about 80% of the problem, according to the sleep analysis I've done before and after) is that a mouthpiece doesn't work for everyone, but the CPAP machine always does. So by all means try a mouthpiece, but if that doesn't help, a CPAP machine will.

That type of CPAP mask wouldn’t work for you because of the facial hair. I don’t have the beard, but I use a nasal pillow type mask, which is much easier to get used to. An added benefit of the nasal pillow is that it will train you to keep your mouth shut during sleep. Why? Because you whistle like a teakettle if you open your mouth while using one.

Wow! That was a great success story and a clever solution. Gravity also comes into play, so if I suspect I'm waking at night, I sleep on my side for the rest of the night. Admittedly, without someone telling you or monitoring your sleep, you won't realized the problem until you wake the next day and then wonder what part of supper did this to me? The mechanics of the airway are clever, but sometimes I think our designers got a little careless, perhaps they also were sleep deprived. I spoke with my own doctor today to discuss the results of my sleep test. Turns out that between 1-5 breathing stops an hour is within limits, but that I was at 16 stops an hour. I asked, since I did not want to decide on either the mouth thing or the face mask, what the chances were of my actually dying/suffocating in my sleep, and she answered that at 16 stops per hour, there was not much risk. For there to be proven risk of actual risk of life, the number of stops an hour needed to be above 30, so you seem to have been very close to that. Hope sleeping goes better for you now! I am still looking for micro-CPAP devices or anything else that can help but I'll report back when I have something that actually worked for me :) Edit: background: my sleep test was done following the diagnosis of high blood pressure (210/134 without medication), which was in turn the result of a test in order to get ADHD medication. So, if you have high blood pressure and ADHD and are even slightly overweight, defo get a sleep test done! Even if you don't act on the results right away, knowing what your options are is always better than sleeping poorly/not getting enough good sleep.

First of all this is an ad and should be labeled as such. Also I am genuinely surprised that people don't breath through their nose while sleeping or in their everyday life!

The breathing machine, CPAP, I feel is your best bet, it made a quiet white noise with my dehumidifier so it didn’t bother me and we can sleep next to each other ❤

Love the video, I have the cpap machine. I just finally put it together & hell to the no. I can’t breathe, feels like air filling up my brain. I originally wanted the mouthpiece. I think I’ll get mouthpiece thingy after all 👍
