My manager always never have anything planned for the meeting, so I come up with a list of things that are important to me, and the meeting becomes a million times more productive. Thanks for the advice

For me it’s a combination of both. I bring topics. The other person brings topics. That’s the expectation that I set before 1:1s and it makes meetings way more productive :)

How would recommend nicely telling your manager that you would rather talk about career trajectory with them during 1-1 than giving work updates half the time?

I'd start with guiding the 1:1 through a shared agenda and just keep adding things to that 1:1 doc (including hey those are my weekly updates) so your manager doesn't need to ask for a status update!

I always thought I was extroverted! In the past few years I realized that I'm both actually. I'm very extroverted in my job and love to bring people together there but in my personal life, I learned to love time spent alone. I often travel by myself and big crowds often drain my energy :)
