Technical Tuesday - ACRO and 509T

Already an owner for the MR920 but have been waiting for a 509t/ACRO cut. For existing owners, I would very much like to see these slides sold separately (and even an option where the MR/DR/XR slide + 509t or ACRO already installed as a bundle deal) so we can swap slides any time we want since it has its own dedicated optic cut. Now that I would be interested in buying for sure, especially that bundle deal.

I think it is awesome, definitely interested in picking one up. Having a design that doesn’t require you to pull the optic to get the extractor out for cleaning is also a huge plus.

Yes, please come out with an option to purchase a slide compatible with the ACRO P-2. I just purchased a DR920 elite a few months ago and want the ability to run an Aimpoint optic on it.

for what it’s worth, I just swapped my 507kX2 for a 509T on my MR920 elite a month ago and will never go back. Would be nice to cowitness but the plate that came with it worked out just fine. A MR920 foundation purchase IS in my future so having that option on the foundation series as well would be a plus. Love the innovation and stayin with the trends 🙏👏👏💪

Yes! Acro/Steiner/509 are the only optics I would consider “duty” ready and what I’m seeing on almost all department’s guns that are going rds. This is a win. I will absolutely be picking up a MR920 with 509 cut. Will just the slides be available for purchase?

Closed emitter are the future but at this time their not the only duty option. In my area the cops I spot competition with seem to mostly run delta points.

Have been wanting to mount an enclosed optic on my mr920 for a minute. The one time I had water get in, I looked through and it was gone. Definitely want enclosed now.

I personally was hoping to use that holosun on my DR920 but I didn't like how high it sat with the plate. I don't know about buying a whole new dr920 to use that style site but I would definitely be interested in upgrading my slide for one

Wish y'all had posted this a few months ago. Went through the rigmarole of sourcing an OEM Glock 17 Gen 5 slide to cut for a 509T. If I knew this was around the corner I would have just waited for y'all to release this. If you release standalone slides, doesn't even need barrels or RSAs, I'll gladly pick up a 509T cut one for a DR920.

I would like to see a spacer adapter for the Holosun EPS. It is the same window size as the 509T but is a direct screw mount not a clamp style and much lower profile. It uses the same footprint as the Holosun K models. The EPS carry will fit the CR920 easy. would like to see a spacer made for the EPS optics for the full double stack guns.

I probably won’t go out and buy a whole new gun just to run a closed emitter optic. I would consider buying a slide to run one on my XR 920 if that was ever an option.

I have a 509t currently on mine. Just took some patience and elbow grease and it fit. The plastic wedge was a bit tight but the small screws the 509t came with fit but had to add on lock tight. But it sounds good to me.

Seems like you could cut the slide for Acro/509 and still have threads for all of the others. Co-witness would be off, but if you're buying this slide, mounting an open emitter optic would be a quick solution while you fix/buy a new closed emitter.

Yes. Definitely. My Holosun died. (It was quite old.) I probably had 5k through it. Still, I hoped it would last longer than that. So, looking at the ACRO, but my gun doesn't have the cut. I did a training class with an open emitter and it was raining lightly. Caught a rain drop on in the right spot and got a starburst. I was able to get it cleared up, but it took a few minutes. Switched to closed emitter sights after that.

This is attractive to me for a full size/duty gun. I have had a drop of rain get in my emitter before and I was hunting for a dot that wasn't there.

I prefer these types of optics. As a person that carries almost every day, not having to get a Q-tip and clean off the inside of the optic would be cool. Also, having the added bonus that nothing can block the dot is great. I'm currently trying to get my hands on a Holosun EPS Carry but you can't find them anywhere.

I just got my DR920 Foundation today and I wish whoever puts screws on the slides to pay attention to 1:49 because they stripped the screw but thankfully the not threads on the slide. Otherwise it's a well-made and well put together pistol.

The reason I like the closed emitter is because there are situations where I will get dust/lint/dirt into the emitter area, causing a starburst effect. Wiping it down does fix it, but in the sun it is blinding if you have a bad astigmatism.

I would love if there was a way they could develop a mounting plate utilizing the narrower holes on the slide maybe allowing for a “near direct milled depth” Mount the plate as if it were an optic, then of course the closed emitter. Maybe a sealing plate under neath similar to RMR but to keep debris out of the RMR and spring holes?

The EPS follows the same footprint as the 507K. I don't think you need to change anything but I could be wrong. That sounds like a question for Customer service. I'll be getting an MR920 Elite and an EPS to along with it. (I stand corrected, check my newer comment)

@@jimmybronco5336 The plate that comes with the Holosun and SS spacer works just fine. Just lose the Iron sights. I wanted to retain the irons while using the optic. Only problem I had when trying to use the plate, I didn't have the right screws to mount to the slide.

I have the EPS Carry on my CR920. It fit no problem using the spacer specified in the manual.

@@copper178 It looked like the CR920 wouldn't have a problem with the EPS. I have the DR920 Elite, spacers aren't long/wide enough for me.

So I just talked with their CS team. The CR920 fits the EPS carry just fine, but the larger models like the MR920 do not have spacers yet for the EPS and EPS carry. She mentioned that they are developing the spacer for the EPS so stay tuned.

Some spacers for the EPS would be cool as I have to use the plate on my mr920. But I’ve thought about getting an XR920 and I’d definitely put a 509 on it so this would be ideal.

I love the idea of an enclosed emitter. I just don’t like how high the 509T sits on the slide. My 508T is bulletproof and I don’t think I’ll ever push it to the side

Why the unique mount for these optics ? I have the EPS Carry mounted on my CR920 Elite, and as you know, the RD fits on a standard 507 mount. What's with the funky welders glasses and doctor's jacket ?

The ACRO slide cuts for duty use would be ideal, but I'm retired now, so a CR920 with a Holosun Eps Carry is perfectly sufficient for me. If I didn't just buy a Foundation XR and Dr, I'd have bought one of the 509 slide Xr's and put my 509 on it. Instead the 509 is on my Glock 30 which I just had milled by Jagerwerks. Oh well. Not positive on this, but doesn't it seem like the newly released EPS and EPS Carry models will be replacing the 509's in the sales leader department? The EPS models sit lower and utilize the same mounting footprint as the 407/507k's.

Very interested in these optics. I'm not sure why these 'rail mounted systems' aren't standardized. When is the last time you had to worry about the red dot mounting system for your rifle or carbine?

I've been seriously considering upgrading my MR920 from a Swampfox Liberty to a 509T, for two reasons: 1. The sharp edges of the red dot have been poking holes in my shirts and actually print more noticeably than any other part of the gun 2. The belly button lint or whatever it is down there seems to be frequently attracted to the small crevice where the emitter is, requiring a Q-tip for any amount of cleaning. I don't know anything about them, but I did find a Shadow Systems-specific plate option for preorder from CH Precision Weapons, that seems to sit as low as is possible with this clamp design. Chime in if you'd had any success with their products, because I'm curious too..

These are the two optics I go back and forth with currently, and occasionally a 508t, if they offered a stand alone 509t slide, I'd preorder today, I like both optics for their own reasons, its super tedious changing them all the time, as well as using a 509 adapter plate

I am currently running a 509T on my MR920 with a CHWPS plate. I like the closed emitters for a defensive gun. If this is an 509/Steiner/Accro-only direct mount, will you have plates in case folks want to run a different rds?

Offer both rmr and acro, simply because some people are going to have a preference between the two footprints. This way you'll be able to appeal to more customers by offering multiple optic options

Our multi-footprint optic accommodates the RMR and most other optics on the market. We now offer direct cuts for Acro or for 509t (shown in this video) because they don’t fit onto the multi-footprint optic cut without a plate. So we are offering both options, exactly like you said.

I’ll join with those saying accommodation for the EPS on the existing footprint would be the cats meow! Presently I’m an RMR guy on my full sized pistols but would love to start transitioning over to the EPS. I’m not a duty carry kind of user so I think an EPS would stand up for my needs. My CR is getting an EPS carry soon.

First of all, thanks to Trevor and team for putting these videos out, I have learned so much about Shadow guns (and Glocks, and even just shooting in general) from your Technical Tuesdays! I can't think of any other manufacturer that makes this much information available to the customer for free, so kudos to you! Keep it up! My question: do you have any plans to sell standalone uppers (and maybe even lowers) separately? Maybe with differently worded warranty terms to reflect that people will be using them with third party components? I would love to buy a Shadow Systems ACRO milled slide for a stock Glock frame, or even as a replacement for a Shadow Systems gun that wasn't configured with an optic to begin with! Can you comment on some of the challenges that are preventing this type of offering? Legal or logistical? Thanks so much! P.S.: any thoughts on offering a slide with the rear sight dovetail milled in front of the optic?

I prefer the Donut of Death featured by my Eotech and my 509T-2, which I am going to mount on a Picatinny riser on my new ... setup. I would have tried the Steiner for a PCC if it had any alternates to singular red dots.
