You use the Dolby when the tape has been recorded with it on.

I have a deck like that. It plays and records absolutely great, very good sounding gear. L and R mic jack inputs can be used to connect 2 mics and make a stereo recording, not necesarily a single stereo mic. 6.3mm jacks is a good point, as mini-jacks are weak and not recommendable to use them with the kind of cable that a good mic needs. Anyway, for the best result an XLR connection would be the best choice to plug a mic in, but that wasn´t avaiable in domestic hifi gear. Regarding Dolby B, use it to record and not to play. Dolby C is not an option for me. Personally I don´t like auto-reverse decks, nor double decks. Recording a cassette from another cassette multiplies the noise by 2, unless using professional equipment. Nice video

Possible that the playback level is out of alignment. I’ve gotten used decks where previous owners jacked up the playback level to get more output from the unit but those levels were initially calibrated with Dolby Reference Level cassettes.

I had something like that back then, cheap good sound, within 5-6 years replaced the head twice, one of the first where treble started to remind compact regarding trebles, before without hxpro it was sibilant or not at all.... talking about this price range everything above was above my range...

Out of curiosity, does this deck have the option to select normal/chrome/metal tape selection during recording? Or does the deck select the type of tape automatically?
@TheRedCassette022 жыл бұрын
It automatically detects it using pins in the top of the deck

Excellent! You can't beat a bit of Technics! Your skin is looking good by the way - bit weird, I know, but I thought I'd just put it out there.

Cheers mate! It used to be really bad but somehow it's just got better all of a sudden. Glad someone's noticed!

Was the cassette you're using as a demo recorded with dolby? a cassette not recorded with dolby and then played back with dolby engaged will generally sound horrible. Also a cassette recorded with dolby B and played back with dolby C and vice versa will not sound good. Long story short (too late) make sure you record and play back with the same dolby system. Also if the cassette was recorded on another deck altogether you could be experiencing an azimuth error which usually causes losses in the high frequencies.

Yes, the demo cassettes were recorded with dolby and played back with the same Dolby noise reduction turned on

in order to hxpro and dolby c and b work properly the wow & flutter needs to be perfect whitch is not quiet achievable in this deck anyway - but am sure if you replace belts and pinch roller things might start to look different

That would probably be a good idea. I don't imagine anyone has been in it for a long time
