And now you've driven me to enter a new project in the long queue - restoring my own vintage Kenwood tuner/amp! Look forward to following along this new journey Simon!

It's not important, but that TO-3 package at the rear corner is the main rectifier. Technics used those on some models.

If you're prepared to be flexible and just go for a high current heatsink device could you swap that out?

I’m not sure if you have already done this on a previous video but I would love to see a before and after measurement on the Distortion analyser. I would also love to see a shoot out between an old amplifier and modern amplifier. Great video if I have not already spoken with you happy New Simon. Best regards Chris

PS as much i I want to say something rude the words you where looking for was dielectric dispersion.

Thats the word! Might run a test on the audio analyzer tonight to see a before and after result.

Simon Spiers that would really be interesting. I know why it’s necessary to re-cap but the way it’s spoken about is as a magical cure all. Would love to have a bet Banzai style. Will it make a difference? ?

Nice bit of kit Simon, well worth the time to at least scrub out and replace any potential problems. Sam.

Any of you know where I can get a sleeve for one of the levers? I have one missing and it's just the bare metal.

Find the JB number stamped on the prism covers or bridge. This will tell you the manufacturer . The JB codes are online.

Thanks for posting its a great vid 0 + i'm wotching without the sound on. Think I have seen part 2 I think anyway got my head scratching, recaping a quality dc coupled amplifier wtf? but the part that baffling me most is you get that cheep Chinese Atmel clone? the stack of super sensitive test equipment stacked up by the side. I bought one, it never worked so there's no fool like an old fool. if I had my head screwed on I would (Peak) use an rpi to log results if necessary . To conclude the rant, to those whose Holy Grail is a good duff electrolytic capacitor , what you need to watch for is popular brands that have been offshored to some part of the world where labour costs tending to nothing. An example of such would be the Bush Arena stand alone tuner-amp where the decouples live under B9A valve bases. The capacitors in your amp's feedback loop are most likely low pass first order filters.

There were no cheap caps used here. Which cap do you refer?
