Jam with Korg Volca Sample, Korg Volca Bass and Arturia Microbrute. Some delay (Lexicon MX 200) on Volca Bass, some reverb on Microbrute (Alesis Quadraverb 2), no FX on Volca Sample; only internal sequencers used; synched with Midi clock from Korg Electribe ER1 through midi thru box to Microbrute and Volca Bass, Sample synched from Bass

Very nice sound and interesting setup. Do you know if there is any option to sync the 2 volcas with microbrute without external midi clock from ER1?

There is the option to connect the volcas and the microbrute directly: volca sync out -> microbrute gate in, however the volcas only send a pulse code on every 8th note so the microbrute sequencer can only play 8th notes either - no matter what setting you select in the microbrute software. You can also connect the Microbrute gate out to a Volca sync in, but it will make the Volca sequencer jump when you press keys on the microbrute. Since I mostly use sequences with 16th notes, I prefer the externel midi clock solution.

@@k-dogstor1170 a midi through box is a simple system that allows you to split and forward an incoming midi signal through a number of outputs connected to devices. For example, the Kenton thru-5 (which I use) has 5 outputs, which means you can control five synths from one midi master source. In my other videos I use the Korg Electribe Sampler 2 or the Synthstrom Audible Deluge as master sequencers that send midi on a number of midi channels. This multi channel midi signal goes into the Kenton, and from there to all the external synths, which each only receive the signals for their respective channels (for instance: synth 1 channel 1, synth 2 channel 2 etc).

@@ShimanskiBeats cheers dude... I gotcha 👍. I'm guitarist recently bought so cheap analogue synths. Having fun, but at the same time finding it very frustrating trying to sync machines together. I've got a microbrute, volca bass and OP-12. The fact I can't program a rest on the MB without the Op-12 skipping drives me made!! You can't make anything cool without rests..

@@k-dogstor1170 I agree completely: the lack of rests was one of the reasons I didn't use the mircobrute's inbuilt sequencer much. One solution is to use a generic hardware sequencer that allows you to remotely steer all the other synths.

As I understand, the Volca Bass can run multiple sequences or polyphony at once but the Brute can't.. ?

that's correct. You can control the three oscillators of the Volca Bass on separate sequences to play different tunes or chords, but they still share the same filter and envelopes. The microbrute is purely monophonic

Super job! Tu pourrais me detailler un peu ton branchement? J'ai un volca sample et soon un microbrute et j'aimerais faire tourner les bêtes avec plus de 8 pas .. Ça m'embêterais de devoir acheter un er 1 juste pour pouvoir les synchro tu sais si ça pourrait se faire autrement ? Merci pour tes réponses et encore beau boulot ;)

In this case, the ER-1 sends midi clock into a Kenton Midi thru (Midi splitter) box from which the midi clock gets forwarded to the Volca Bass and the Microbrute. The Volca Bass sends a sync signal to the Volca Sample. You can sync the Volcas with the Microbrute (gate in) without Midi but then the Microbrute can only play 8th notes instead of 16th notes. If you want the Microbrute to play sequences with 16th notes you need an external midi clock signal. Doesn't need to be an Electribe, can be anything else that sends midi clock.

Thanks for the answer ! But if you have something that generates a midi clock, can't you just connect it to the Midi In of the microbrute then midi out microbrute to volca's Midi In and then the syncs signal to the other volca instead of using a midi splitter?

unfortunately, the Microbrute doesn't have a Midi out. What the Microbrute would need (but doesn't have either) is a Midi thru.

how do you save tracks on the volca if your working on multiple songs as it were, are the volcas really just of use as a jam tool

you can save up to 8 patterns on the Volca Bass and 10 on the Volca Sample, which is enough for a couple of jams, but there's no way to export the sequencers to an external device.

that's what I did in many jams that I posted later: I used the Electribe Sampler as a midi sequencer to control the Volcas (next to other synths). You can steer midi notes, velocity and mod wheel if I remember correctly.

I want is to loop vocals with a looper pedal and have it sync with the volca sample playing beats., do you know what I'd need to get this done?

thx for your comment. The Volca accepts midi clock in signals, so if your looper has a midi out and sends midi clock, that's the way to do it. Alternatively, the Volca sends sync pulse (8th notes) so if your looper has a sync input this may work too.

Thanks, I haven't come across any looper pedals that have a mini jack sync input, nor have I seen any much pedals with a MIDI out. I want to travel with it so I need a portable pedal that can sync with the volca is any way. My options are limited I beleive.

@@Tapepusher For midi loopers, look for TC Ditto X4 and EHX 45000. Great tools, but rather expensive for what they do. I mostly use Ableton with Akai APC40 for this kind of looping, works like a charm
