Hi! Many thanks for letting us peek at your production process! What, in your opinion, is crucial for producers who are just starting out there and wanna build their music portfolio as a side hustle? Especially when trying to maximize the productivity after 9 to 5 job but often don't know what to focus on, cheers!

@@karolwozniak4736 Well, my first piece of advice would be to not rush the process. It takes time to write quality tracks that you want to release into the world. And that might not happen for a few years. So it's crucial to accept the fact that music production is a pursuit that takes a long time to master. Secondly, and more technical, it would be to focus your energies on the compositional aspects of music making -- as in writing strong melodies, chords, etc. Mixing is great and so essential but honestly it mostly just comes with time as our ears improve and we finish more tracks!

Hey.. I was wondering why a linear phase MB compressor (which usually is more Of a go to for mastering) on the hats buss? This won’t let me go back and see something in the vid while I’m typing. .. So I can’t look back at the settings. U just using the upper mid and hi band?
@rinzenmusic
@rinzenmusic 4 жыл бұрын
@@geraldgoodiii6993 The Linear MB compressor from Waves is just really my go-to, for both mastering and busses. I'm just the most comfortable with it. And yes just on the mid and high bands in this case as there's not much low content in any of the hats.

Awesome interview. Just the tip on using compression to isolate tracks in headroom is gold.
@BIG_PASTA
@BIG_PASTA 4 жыл бұрын
What do you mean by "to isolate tracks in headroom" exactly? The way he explained using compression to control peaks is a very standard application of compression... its called "peak limiting" really, and will inherently allow you more headroom. Am I missing something?
@JohnBack
@JohnBack 4 жыл бұрын
@@BIG_PASTA They way I understood this was limiting frequency range for each instrument (or group) as part of the limiting/compression process; in much the same way I already start a track with an overall limiter. That way you have a general 'map' of your sounds and can avoid big overlapping frequency conflicts from the start instead of fixing them later. Refer 10:57 and the references to multi-band compression. Hope I understood this correctly Big Pasta :)
@BIG_PASTA
@BIG_PASTA 4 жыл бұрын
@@JohnBack So he is just talking about limiting the _amplitude_ of certain frequency bands/instruments to achieve more headroom, not limiting the frequency ranges of these elements. To limit frequency _ranges_ EQ is the tool, compressors and limiters are dynamics processors. At the timestamp that you mention he talks about using a multi-band compressor, which can act as a dynamic EQ if set up correctly, but they can be very difficult to use if one does not understand compression in and out (I teach and MB compressors tend to be the most misunderstood devices). It's important to note that by just doing what you said, you will not avoid frequency conflicts, you will just have a compressed version of the conflicting parts. You will always have to go back and fix things later as that is the nature of creating/mixing haha :)
