I currently use an iphone 7 and lately I find myself frequently going online and checking prices and watching reviews of newer models. Despite the fact that I can afford it, I know I can put that money to better use like a holiday, first car, etc. Although the battery life is at 76% and Apple stopped supporting it with the latest iOS, the phone works fine and I'm not a heavy user. Whenever the urge kicks I need to remember to give my head a shake and snap out of the Apple marketing hypnosis.

Same typing from an iPhone 7 which was gifted to me. Phone starting to have issues (charging port is grumpy, button not working anymore etc) so thinking to upgrade, though I enduro on this video while checking out feature phones and flip phones 😅

Hwy, im with you here. I have iphone 8 plus and ive been using since 2018 amd is working fine still, just 74% battery health which is not really a problem since I can charge it everyday. I want to be minimalist and the urge of wanting to buy new one comes but I know for a fact, as long as my ip8 still works, Im good

Great content as always Scott. I’ve had my iPhone 12 Pro Max for almost 2 years now and it’s still an amazing phone. Yeah the battery ain’t as good as it was when new but a simple battery replacement will do the job. The iPhone 14 looks pretty much identical apart from a couple of new features so I can’t justify the upgrade. Everything I purchase now is with cash. I followed Dave Ramsey debt snowball method that you mentioned in one of your old videos and haven’t looked back since. I used to get phones on finance and then pay it off over so many years but now just prefer to save up for big purchases and pay out in cash.

Its basicly the same device every year with a few minor changes. Unless my phone breaks, gets lost, or is so obsolete I no longer get updates I am going to keep my phone.

I've had my Samsung S10+ for 4 years now. I talked myself out of the 13 Pro and said I would wait until the 14 Pro. I did that and now I keep thinking about getting it but know I don't really need to spend all that money. It's hard to avoid the thoughts of wanting it still. 🙈

I eagerly wanted to buy the new iPhone 14 pro max or S23 Ultra just for the sake of feeling that "I'm am missing out on the latest tech" even though my current iPhone x can satisfy all of my needs. After realizing that all I actually do is scrolling through social media or calling and texting to somebody, I came to the conclusion that a newer iPhone or any phone doesn't make any different. Companies love to make you feel like you are missing out via marketing but at the end of the day your phone has all you need in most cases. This applies not only to tech products but also to every product. Be wise. Don't fall for the marketing. 😊

I totally agree with you I’ve never bought a phone since the blackberry That was 10 years ago or more. However I do receive gifts from friends and relatives from time to time. I received a gift of galaxy 7S And then the iPhone XS. My philosophy is that I will keep my phone until someone will give me a better phone well that’s how it was for me and I’m very very happy with what I have now. Unfortunately nowadays people judge you based on your material objects your car your phone you’re branded T-shirts or sneakers !. I would rather to put my money in a business or investing. I am currently debt-free having a good business and a high income job. I don’t give F. What other people think of me at all. I am happy the way I am and it’s really hard to get to this point and realization.

I grabbed a used 256gb XS Max for half price, 2 years after the launch. Still rocking it on iOS 15. 2018 iPad Pro. 2019 MBP + 2018 Mac mini (last Intel). This set was purchased second-hand over time to withstand the ‘upgrade urge’ - it should last me until the end of the decade - my next upgrade will probably be the rumoured USB C iPhone.

I have been a maximizer on phones since graduating college and although I save money sometimes the inconvenience is not worth it. I’ve been using my iPhone X since 2018 and experiencing battery life issues and some software issues which are not worth fixing at this point. Although I agree that buying the latest and greatest phones every year is not the best move but knowing which features you value should be taken into consideration. For example a huge upgrade in battery life and standard memory would make me consider since this is a feature I value from the phone.

IMO, If you have an iPhone 11 or later.....wait....for the next (iphone 15....). Apple LOVES the fact that many buyers do the sequential upgrades.....that's just not me. I am however, waiting for a budget 12.9" iPad.... or better yet....the lightly rumored 14" Monster

I have had two i phones and found them very user friendly. I now have oppo r17 pro which is okay except it seems to have much googkly goop in it which I never use and sometimes these things crop up when not asked. Plus I feel that a lot of modern phones now the screen is to big. Which makes the phone feel heavy and bulky. I am thinking about going back to a older model i phone. I don't want a new one Is it stupid for me to buy a older i phone 6s or a i phone 6s plus. Or even a i phone 7 I find the older i phones a pleasure. Especially with the earphone jack point.

Real life comments. Thank you. Seeing all these Apple ceo and other big businesses showing up at environmental events are huge hypocrites!! How environmentally responsible is it to make a product that they want you to buy again every couple of years? And now switching to usb cables for charging, all the other still useful cables will eventually have to be thrown out!! Yeah, not such a small footprint, right? I and my husband still have an IPhone 6s which cost us about $300 each back then.

I also think that upgrading your iPhone or Samsung phone etc every year is completely unnecessary the advertising are designed to convince you to buy the newest one every time for features you think you need you won’t actually them for a long period a good example of a useless feature that increases sales is called dynamic island it’s a completely unnecessary feature that Apple was able to convince you to buy I would say the longest to hold on to your phone is about 5-7 years because typically Apple updates iPhone for about 5-6 years the only issue is you will need to replace your battery and just take care of your phone
