There are fundamental changes happening right now - access to new technology and the internet has a huge potential for mankind. If you believe that technology can solve all of our social problems, you are right, but at the same time technology can also greatly harm our society. Is it for good or bad? You decide.
As the Vice Chair of Global Grand Challenges at Singularity University, Darlene Damm works to create a global community with the mindset, skills and network necessary for building an abundant future. She is determined to solve the planet’s most urgent problems through leveraging exponential technologies like artificial intelligence, robotics and digital biology. In 2012, she founded DIYROCKETS, the first company to crowdsource the development of space technology and in 2011 she co-founded Matternet, a commercial drone company transporting medical goods in the developing world. Previously, Darlene served with Ashoka, the world's largest association of social entrepreneurs for nearly 9 years.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Technology is a double edged sword. A hammer can be used to bang a nail into a piece of wood or it can be used to kill someone. It all depends on the person holding the hammer and on his/her intentions.

@Hidden 2o Balance is key. Our thinking and actions should be balanced, avoiding extremes. The whole universe/existence strives for balance and we should too.

Just like guns, they can be used to kill people or they can be used to protect someones family. It depends on who comes in contact with it

Telepathy exists without machines...it is an ancient and first way of "human" communication. All indigenous populations can attest to this. Modernity has stamped out innate abilities/ gifts and conforms people to focus on what is outside themselves and doubt what is within. Those who do not have the abilities nor understanding simply want to dominate those with innate "supernatural abilities" and continue on with colonialist oppressive / extractive schemes now called "advancement, innovation, the new normal" etc etc. Unfortunately, "modern technologies" are a lazy way of creating what is innately in Nature, and yes what is called human is part of Nature. Destroying Nature is the foundation in many of the technological schemes.

There is no one answer. It depends on how you use it, it's as simple and as complicated as that. It's the same with fire, or knives, or money. It's the same as with words. Each time you reach for technology, you need to think of the reasons and the repercussions.
