Always thought the Dismal Swamp was a relaxing and interesting part of the Great Loop. We passed by with the RV on our SE trip and stopped briefly to view the swamp channel. Unfortunately the trip by car is no where near as interesting as the one by boat. Glad you had time to stay and enjoy the Dismal area. Also appreciated the info about Norfolk. Thank you for sharing.

Great place. Growing up we visited the Dismal Swamp many times on Route 17. My sister lost her footing one time on the shores and slipped in. She tried to get her grip but the bottom was so slippery. She panicked and Mom saved her. Brings back the days I used to tease her. 😂

Love to hear about your continued travels! I lived in Richmond for a few years. It’s a great city. I recommend Sticky Rice in the Fan District - it’s excellent - and Millie’s Diner down in Shockoe Bottom where I used to live has the best Sunday brunches in the city. Their Bloody Mary’s are famous, rightfully so! (Plan a nap afterwards if you indulge - I was always glad I could walk home afterwards!) I also suggest trying she-crab soup (my personal regional favorite) along with Brunswick Stew - many places serve each and it’s an ongoing battle as to who has the best.

Up until this experience - in 7 years we had not had a problem. Wine is much better in a proper glass :).
