I have a few Assassin IV coolers running in a couple of my systems and they're just fine for now. Noctua make great fans for sure but the ROI needs to be reduced by that "fanboy tax" before I buy them. Excellent video and review Lauri, thanks.

The LBC version is dead flat according to Gamers Nexus, which should make it ideal for direct-die (de-lid) cooling ..... assuming you can find a retention frame whose thickness exactly matches the CPU die thickness/ height above substrate/PCB. Most if not all don't unfortunately. De8auer, Rockit Cool et al don't have a very good understanding of the engineering problems involved in making their products work properly. I'm referring to the issue of creating even clamping pressure across an LGA socket - providing sufficient pressure for proper pin contact across the entire pin array, avoiding excess pressure on the die alone which bows the PCB up at the corners/edges and creates pin-contact problems.
@daniil38153 ай бұрын
bravo to engineers, the best cooler with a lot of interesting new features. Noctua is pushing the evolution of fans and coolers, sucks that other brands will just copy it (sucks to Noctua of course, good for users). On one hand I would like to spend my money on the product and support those guys, but on the other hand, 150$ is hella expensive. How about 100-120$? I would buy it for 100$

Sorry, but I don't understand why you see the performance of the D15 G2 so positively. In your test of the Arctic Freezer 36 with T30 fans, it had 90 degrees Celsius at 14900k at 280W on pass 4 in Cinebench and no thermal throttling either, so shouldn't the 150$ Noctua cooler perform a little better at 250W than it does?
@the12gaugeshotty3 ай бұрын
Intel hasn't really changed the way the ILM puts pressure on the CPU in a long time. They have been using the middle as the force of pressure for a decade+. LGA 1150 even did that. So there has always been some deflection of the heat spreader. There's maybe 1-2 degrees difference between the NH-D15 Gen 2 SKUs. That's within margin of error. It doesn't really make a difference.

Maybe you haven't noticed yet, but the CPU cooler has a base that rests on the CPU. So if you leveled the bases of the coolers instead of the tops, half of your talk would be pointless, because for example the cutouts would be at the same height. Next time I suggest you ask the engineers from Noctua why they did something and you could try to share that knowledge with the viewers. But I don't know if you'll succeed, because they're engineers and you (judging by your video) aren't, so you won't necessarily understand what they told you. Regardless, thank you for your enthusiasm! :)

Why is it that you content creators avoid the Noctua U12a like the plague? Its just as good as the D15s so what's up that? Its small, allows for high profile ram and cools just as good as the ones you just covered and cheaper. I guess Noctua chooses what they want you to promote?

I suspect the degradation problem is caused by trhottling at the beginning of cinebench. Perhaps too high a voltage spike is sent to the cpu to go from idle to full power state.

I'd say stick to default settings and voltage and you should be fine!
@TigonIII3 ай бұрын
Also lock all P-cores in bios to the same clock speed (multiplier), as it seems that 1 or 2 cores likes to boost just a smidge higher at some points, and this is where they draw insane amounts of voltage. If you prevent them from going over the normal boost (I have an i7 13700K, and have locked the boost clock at 5.3Ghz, whereas before 2 of my cores would sometimes boost to 5.4Ghz.) then you should be safe, and Intel has said they would come out with a bios update mid-august, which should help some more in avoiding damage. If you are doing work that generally uses every core, then the loads are distributed more evenly, which doesn't put the same strain on the cores, as when 1 or 2 cores suddenly get a spike of voltage, so there's also that to take into consideration.

You should never use a contact frame. It can add to instability and will void your warranty.

@@the12gaugeshotty You are the first I see saying this of like hundreds different reviewers builders comments etc. Everyone says its worth it and makes it better even with test the temps always go down and there is never any instability. @@migthefig I think he might have watched someone who installed a contact frame and who might have overtightened it, so that it affected the CPU lanes on the motherboard, mainly the ones going to the RAM, which creates instability and such, but in no way does it void your warranty, as I have just bought the Arctic Liquid Freezer III AIO, and that includes a contact frame as the only option to install on LGA1700, and they wouldn't do that if they knew that everyone of their costumers would be voiding warranties.

What the heck Noctua! Is this the snake oil version of the AV cabling world! The heat transference equivalent of the crystal-clear cleanest signaling grift? You did not even bother to give the cooler a 4 point clampdown, but thought that changing the base and offering some super specialty versions was the clever thing to do on a 'heat pipe only' cooler? A poorly conceived concept of increasing the product lifecycle cost for everyone by focusing on an extremely niche idea that should never have become an actual major marketing USP.
