Pixel 6a vs Nothing Phone 1 vs Samsung Galaxy A53 5G | Which is best for you?

Comparing Google's Pixel 6a vs the Nothing Phone 1 vs Samsung's Galaxy A53 5G, testing which mid-range 2022 smartphone is best for camera performance, gaming, battery life and beyond! I've used the Pixel 6a, Nothing Phone 1 and Samsung A53 as my full-time phone (full review of Google's mobile coming soon), and it certainly is a tough choice. Personally I'd go Pixel, but each smartphone has its own advantages and drawbacks.
For camera tech, this trio all use very different hardware. The Nothing Phone 1 and Pixel 6a produce natural looking photos, while Samsung's Galaxy A53 tends to make colours pop. If you're a gamer then the A53 definitely shouldn't be your choice, with that limited Exynos chipset. In fact, Carl Pei's smartphone is the best choice for Genshin Impact fans, coping well under duress. On the flip side, it's not so hot for battery life.
The Nothing Phone 1 is the most premium handset here with its aluminium frame and Gorilla Glass rear. However, it's not water resistant like the Pixel 6a and Galaxy A53 5G. All three mid-range mobiles serve up an OLED screen although Google's is sadly stuck at 60Hz, while you also get a stereo speaker setup.

how does it innovate other than the Glyph system? Genuine question. Its pricier than most midrange phones and as far as i can tell, it's just a gimmick. As a oneplus one adopter back when it was the new thing, I can tell you the OPO innovated way more than this, they coined fast charge, they did the textured back, the specs were indeed flagship, but the nothing phone is far from flagship, its just "Good" not an enthusiast phone though. I suppose I can understand liking it because its familiar to iphone (I recently swapped to 13PM) the feel and look is very premium for sure, So i guess this phone is for iOS converts who wanna try droid but still have an iphone 11 camera layout with 12's chassis?

​I got the Pixel 2 XL, 64GB variant in May 2018. Damn, I miss this phone. It had the best cameras in its class, front and rear, and also a night sight, a smooth user interface, a decent quality display, and very good battery life. It had amazing overall performance, good build quality, and mediocre dual speakers. Fortunately, I didn't have any major h/w issues apart from the minor s/w ones. From 2018 to 2021, overall it was pretty good.

Pixels have always had poor displays and still do . The display on my pixel 2 was so dark I had to shine a torch on it ! Samsung and apple excel in this area. My pixel 6 has a naff display. Apart from the sub par screens , pixels are good phones !

I picked up the A53 5G after watching Tech Spurts previous review on it, and I'm well happy. I'm not a gamer, nor do I waste my time on Facebook, Twitter and the like. I do however watch loads of KZbin videos and use the A53 as a hotspot for my laptop. I'm flabbergasted by the battery life......3 days on one charge. averaging 4.5/5 hours SOT. I've uninstalled or disabled all apps that I don't need or want. Speeded some settings in Developer Options and my A53 5G flys! It just shows how hungry some social media apps are with all their foreground and background activities.

@@whysoserious4464 Have you enabled Developer Options and changed a few settings? It makes a big difference. My A53 5G is easily on a par with my S20 Ultra for speed and smoothness. If you have, then it is these social media apps that bog down a phone and take all its resources. I understand people can't live without Facebook and such but the A53 5G is no power house. It's a mid-ranger. It can be tweaked though.

Was thinking nothing phone, currently have a Nord 2 which does the job but I moved from a OnePlus 7 pro which definitely felt like a premium phone, the nothing phone would be a step up in terms of a more premium feel by the sounds of it but not sure about the battery life and the 33w charging, do like the os and how that is very close to stock android like the OnePlus skin, will have to do a bit more mulling over I think. I'm also using the Nord 2 and i am switching to the Pixel6a in a few days. I am very dissapointed in OnePlus for the bad update policy i mean my device is 1 Year old and i'm still running anrdoid 11. Android 13 is near dropping the betas. Thats the Reason why i will switch to google. You get every update as fast as you can. No one will get updates fast as an pixel device. Nothing Phone (1) looks cool and i allready got the Ear (1) but the Nothing Phone is not that special for me.

My BAHA uses a different type of bluetooth and only the iPhones, Pixels and latest flagship samsungs with work with it. As in you can hear the caller/media direct from your phone to your hearing aid.

The thing is, the s21fe is a low end flagship, with an msrp over that of even the higher end pixel 6. With the trade in google offers, you can get the 6a for like $150 with a pair of google pixel buds a series, any Samsung that can get that low of price is completely unusable, just like almost all the Samsung a series itself.

Can't wait for Pixel 7 any longer, I bought Nothing phone today. I'm aware that this is a phone from a new company, so I expected imperfections/bugs. And it did put me on the test. For example it took me more than one hour to setup everything. The phone asked me twice for the initial set up (so again after I finished it once). Then the app updates got stuck. I don't know why but in the notification bar it says something "installed 2 out of 4 applications" for one hour without making any progress. I restarted the phone twice but it stayed the same. And then I tried to update the apps from the updates list in Google Play one by one by clicking on the update button. It worked. And by chance (I don't know whether they are connected) when I finished updating them all, the installation of those 4 apps shown in the notification bar made progress and finished. My first impression? It feels like Pixel. And definitely the fingerprint sensor is faster than that on Pixel 6!

According to Geekbench, Exynos 1280=Snapdragon 750g which I use almost 2 years now in my A52 5g with no lagging at all (no games experience). (Of course it's a pity they didn't use last year's A52s's snapdragon 778g, which was much more powerful. I think I'd buy that now since it's also cheaper)

@Antonio Castilla ok so software updates so far so good and the security patches I'm getting every two months as they promised, The software updates have been regular also, I'm on the 1.1.6 version so as you can see, they've made a few reparations on the phone and bugs are non existent right now I can say I'm pretty happy with Phone 1 and its cameras, specially the main and ultrawide are amazing. The selfie is one of the best I've ever seen when you have light, but when it's night time, it tends to have a bit of grain when you are taking the picture but the post-processing gets it pretty good. Overall you are paying not only for the glyphs

I went with the Samsung A53 5G. I like that I have an SD card slot and I got it for an absolute steal at 270$ USD. I'm not too worried about performance. This thing is still heaps more performant than my old Moto G power 2020.

I wake up at 7 and by 10:30 it's at 67% with screen display off and having browsed for a total of 30 minutes and listening to music on earphones for about the same time. It's slightly over two years old but the battery was never THAT much better sadly. Makes it hard for me to take what this guy says about the batteries on this video seriously.

Battery 🔋 life on nothing was around 5 hours screen on time, after update it became 7 to 8 hours. It makes difference. Add more updates are coming for better experience

Nothing Phone does have a one handed mode but it is the stock one that Android 12 now offers by default. Just go to settings>System>Gestures>One Handed Mode

If software or updates is a problem to you you can try lineageos For example you saw a Xiaomi phone which seems really great value for you but you don't want to buy it because of the shitty miui then you can install lineageos on it and you'll be fine (lineageos is a stock android like experience)

A bit disappointed with the camera comparison. It seems to you that they were all okay while I was seeing a gigantic difference between the Nothing Phone and the Pixel 6a (the best). Even the selfie that you mentioned the Pixel 6a struggles with light, it clearly had the best selfie photo. And video comparison wasn't really there. Same with speakers like "they are all good". Makes the comparison almost pointless when you don't really compare or comment a bit more in depth. I enjoyed the video but it was a bit low effort comparison.

The A52s can't match the fluidity of the Pixel. The camera is also pretty bad on the Samsung. No Call Screening, no Direct My Call, no Now Playing and Hold For Me. Basic features that even Motorola phones have. One UI doesn't give you that same premium feel like you get with Stock Android.

I can't help but love One UI but the app duplication makes things messy. The pixel 6 series and the Nothing phones are first gen so couldn't recommend them to anybody. For a mid-range I'd recommend Nord 2T or Poco F4 and I'd even recommend the A52S over the A53.....or could wait until an Amazon Prime day and rock a 2021 flagship.

After the large update I just received the software is great and no longer buggy. The display issues that people complain about exist in every phone, there just manufacturing defects (even big companies like Samsung and Xiaomi have them) it's a great phone in my opinion and performs just as good as my exynos s22 ultra in basic tasks and games, it also has better optimisation in games due to the Snapdragon 778 being used in alot of phones in the past like realme GT master edition ect. So if Samsung and Google claim their exynos chips and tensor chips are flagships then the nothing phone is definitely a flagship killer for the price.

In areas where it’s available, the Samsung A73 is the more fair comparison. Its benchmarks are similar to the Nothing phone and here in the Philippines they’re priced exactly the same for 8gb/256gb variants. Personally i picked up the A73 over the Nothing Phone and Pixel 6a and I’m convinced I made the right choice.
