The race is on. For years, the Toyota Land Cruiser has been one of the best SUVs on the market. Throughout that time, it has been facing some very stiff competition from the Nissan Patrol. These two have always been competitors for years on end. However, it seems as though that beef is about to end with the 2025 Nissan Patrol. During the unveiling of the 2025 Nissan Patrol, the automaker claimed that it would be 'much better’ than the Toyota Land Cruiser. How true that is-we are yet to find out. However, what we know is that it has some pretty cool features. So, stick around to find out whether the 2025 Nissan Patrol will actually be more superior than the Toyota Land Cruiser.

At this point, it doesn’t come as a surprise that a car company thinks its vehicle is more impressive than the competition. However, Nissan has come out swinging. The automaker has declared that the next-generation Patrol will make the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series restless.
When we consider the changes that will be made to the 2025 Nissan Patrol, it might actually stand a chance to be ahead of the Toyota Land Cruiser. All this information came from the very first teaser of the car, which was released a few months ago. This was ahead of its debut and arrival in overseas showrooms, which is expected to happen anywhere within the next 12 months.
There are a couple of changes that will come with the 2025 Nissan Patrol, with the most notable one being the powertrain. At the moment, the current Patrol is being powered by a 5.6-liter V8 petrol engine, which produces about 298 kW of power at 5,800 RPM and 560 Nm of torque at 4,000 RPM. All this power is coupled to a seven-speed automatic transmission. Even though this is a pretty solid combination, it lacks a dynamic edge. However, this is still good because it yields a driving experience that is equal parts relaxed, assured, and undemanding. In addition to that, the Patrol has full-time four-wheel drive with high- and low-range modes.
For the 2025 Nissan Patrol, it has been said that the automaker will do away with the V8 engine for a downsized twin-turbocharged V6. However, don’t be disappointed by this, because it will actually have more power. This new engine is promising about 336 kW of power. This will be the same engine that was revealed with the Infiniti QX80 luxury twin, so you can expect nothing but pure greatness. And it gets better.
However, one downside to the current version of the Toyota Land Cruiser is that it does not have some very handy 4WD-focused driver-assist tech that is included in the two higher grades, which are the Sahara ZX and the GR Sport.
The 2025 Nissan Patrol is already much better than the Toyota Land Cruiser when it comes to power. The only way the Toyota Land Cruiser will be better than the 2025 Nissan Patrol is if they upgrade their powertrain. And that would have to be a massive upgrade because the current version of the Toyota Land Cruiser is already trailing behind.
Just like the current model on the market, the new Patrol is expected to share its body shell, chassis, and engine with the new Infiniti QX80. And if you have seen the Infiniti QX80, then you know we are in for a treat. It is a bit boxier and more contemporary in appearance than the outgoing model.
When you move to the interior, we can expect to see a more modern dashboard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for right-hand-drive markets. This is somehow the same layout that has been there for the left-hand-drive countries for multiple years.
One of the things that people are guessing a lot about is whether the automaker will take the hybrid route with this one. But so far, there has been no mention of hybrid or plug-in hybrid power for the new Patrol. Furthermore, Nissan executives have previously said an electric version will not be feasible until next-generation solid-state battery technology is ready, which is around 2028. So, we might not see a hybrid Patrol until then.
There is just so much to love when it comes to the 2025 Nissan Patrol. And from what we have seen, it might have a strong chance to finally be superior to the Toyota Land Cruiser. But what do you think?
