I also installed 3 Hunter Wi-Fi smart fans. They’re nice. I also installed the simple connect app and got it working with Alexa. Then I bought bond a little hub which covers 2,500 sq ft and can control up to 30 fans. It learns a whole ton of remotes/frequencies and makes old remote fans smart. Put’s it all in Alexa. It picked up the hunter fan remote and all of its functions in the bond app and also my other fans. Works great.

Nice setup. In my case, I bought a modern dumb fan (with no pull chains and a remote control I didn't install), and a Treatlife fan/light smart wall switch. The Treatlife switch looks super clean and modern and allows me to adjust both the light dimming level and fan speed. I decided not to install the remote control that came with the fan because it would mess up the smart setup, but also because remotes get misplaced and I can always use my phone as remote, or the Google Assistant (or Alexa) for voice controls.

Good to see Hunter getting into Smart Tech. If they haven't already, hope they come out with kit to retrofit their existing fans to make them smart. I know it is possible (I built a working prototype for one of their fans in our "smart research lab" before switching to Dyson) and it might be a missed opportunity if Hunter expects customers with perfectly working fans to go through "planned obsolescence upgrade" to get smart technology in their fans. Great video as always, Brett! 👍

Virtual switches between ST/alexa can link it to your temp sensors to make the fan more automated. Fairly easy to set up if you are into smart homes. I do the same set up with my dumb fan linked to a BOND RF controller. 90% of my fan usage happen automatically thanks to ST/alexa or bond.

First off, great video. I purchased that fan, but hated the light. It does not look good or generate enough light on a lower ceiling. The other issue I had was that the wall switch did not have the load for the fan. I ended returing the fan, purchased a Smart WiFi Ceiling Fan Remote Control Kit for $30 on Amazon and installed with my original fan. It works great.

Is it possible to use this fan with a Lutron fan switch and Lutron dimmer switch? I have a similar Hunter fan but am running into issues with the Lutron switches working. Lutron said it may be because of the receiver in the fan. Is there a way to disable this?

Meh? I just bought a generic Hampton Bay fan for $90, the Bond Timing Remote (you have) for $60 and 3 Hue Bulbs along with a $40 Lutron Aurora dimmer that locks the single toggle switch into the always on up position at the wall. No fan control switch on the wall, but voice control works fine. Homebridge'ed the Bond controller into Homekit etc. I could just add an Aqara 4-button remote and control the speeds via Homekit.

John. Yep, the toggle light on the fan control is a problem with Bond. On my fan remote, there is only a toggle button for light, so that is what Bond emulates. Alexa can control my fan speed through Bond, but not the direction as my fan remote also doesn't have that feature. I think mine is a physical switch on top of the fan.

I have to say I think my favorite part of this video is when the little kid was twerking. LOL I'm trying to find a decent ceiling fan that isn't relient on an internet connection. I'm really sick of everything requiring an account to sign into and send all my data. Being able to use it while at home and if internet is unavailable is 1/2 the issue. the other is having my home opened up to every single device app and vendor I need to log into. The more places that are connected to my home the more vulnerabilities there are OR the ability to lose my automation. Look at what Amazon did to that guy who they mistakenly labeled a racist because a driver misheard an automated response from the doorbell.

I ended up changing the names a few times while making the video. If I only had one fan then Fan would have worked and I had to give the light a unique name because Kitchen Light would turn off all the kitchen lights.

The only things I don't like about the smart switch is that you have to remove the switch from the wall to change batteries and it's too easy for someone to hit that Power button. Altho they weren't smart switches, I've seen in-wall remotes for fans that use coin-sized batteries accessible from the front of the switch and a hidden "Power" switch.

It looks like there is notable lag between issuing the command on your phone and the response from the fan. In the video its difficult to see the actual light dimming, so I can't comment on that response time, but the actions of starting the fan seem somewhat delayed. Have you noticed this in your daily use, or is this an artifact of the video? It looks like you didn't have to do anything special to balance the fan (which is great). My fan is 27 feet in the air, so maybe its one of those times you pay someone to install something for you. Can you share pricing information? Is the smart wall switch a separate purchase?
@TechWithBrett
@TechWithBrett 2 жыл бұрын
Great questions. The delay improved after initial setup but it is still there when using my Android device. When using my iPad integrated with HomeKit it was much faster to respond. The fan always does take a couple of seconds to engage. The Wall Control is a separate purchase but there are a few fan models that come with the fan. Why does it start spinning one way and then it spins the opposite way?
@TechWithBrett
@TechWithBrett 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure why it does it when turning on but it must be because the fan supports changing rotation from the remote. It probably has a default direction and then needs to check it's memory each time it turns on.
