Tecno Phantom V Flip 2 Review: $700 Flip Phone

The Tecno Phantom V Flip 2 is a $700 flip foldable with surprisingly good build quality. Powered by a Mediatek Dimensity 8020 and a pair of 50-megapixel cameras, you do get pretty solid list of hardware for the price. There's also a larger Tecno Phantom V Fold 2 that launched at same time. I reviewed that on the channel too.

No Ben, although on paper the external display is 3.6" , it's realistically smaller than Z Flip 6 external display as its designed within the 2 camera cut out taking up real estate.

I think 30% difference in cost for a phone when we're up at these prices is a pretty huge difference? Like, I'm writing this from my Honor Magic V3, and I have a OnePlus Open and a Vivo X Fold 3, so my point is that I actually can splurge on phones but I still think it's a big difference for a lot of people depending on if it's $700 or $1000.

In the main markets targeted by Tecno (Africa, South America), the brand is recognized as equivalent to brands like Motorola so it makes sense to position the price almost at the same level

Using a small phone that flips open into a bigger phone doesn't sound that great, but a regular smartphone that unfolds into a tablet sounds way more exciting and useful and productive. In my opinion, Foldables are future but flip phones are just childish and gimmicky.
