The technology to make a folding phone has been around for several decades, even without flexible OLED screens. It's just that no manufacturer (or, none that I've heard of) wanted to build a phone with two screens, usually opting for a screen in the top half and keyboard or numberpad in the lower half, rather than two capacitive touch screens separated by a hinge. Some did put a tiny secondary LCD on the outside/back of their phone, but they were mostly just glorified status lights.

Tho I'm genuinely happy that more companies are jumping into foldable phone train, it's not something new that some new, small companies starting with a blast and then starting to feel the crunch in the market that is dominated by mobile giants. So they start with an acceptable phone but then they'll start to degrade in quality once they gain enough attention and i hope that's not the case here. Also one thing that arun forgot to mention was how long the company is able to support its products software wise and how much they're able to optimize their hardware to keep up with the competitors in a long run.

The screen is soft plastic, there are now moving parts, you have to spend extra time to use your phone, and it is cut in half. None of this is good. And all you have to show for it is being able to fit in skinny jeans easier and use the camera without holding it.

I'm never using an other phone brand. I get that other phones like Samsung, Oppo, Xiaomi and Iphone offer more quality but Tecno is already enough for me. It's cheap and focuses on making my experience enjoyable. At a cheap price I'm getting features that you'd normally be getting on higher end models on other smartphone brands. Before smartphones flip phones were quite common. They didn't take up so much space in pocket or purse which was good. That's still the only benefit I can see in these new flip smartphones so I probably wouldn't spend more to get one.

But actually, it made more sense with a phone with a plastic screen and physical buttons because it would help reduce the amount of dirt making contact with it. Modern phones have glass screens and no buttons. They are small enough to fit in most pockets so the size reduction won't matter unless it is tablet sized. Those are the foldables that make some sense.

I enjoy the smaller form factor as i run and bike a lot and carrying around a huge phone is a complete pain but with these i can unfold to a larger phone (better for the aging eyes) but stow away fairly easily. Is it as good as the S24 or an iphone pro- no but if i am continually frustrated with stowing a brick in an armband that weighs a ton then maybe a good compromise for me

Loved this review. I'm on my second fold phone, I had the g1 fold (and it had its issues), but I could go back to a standard or even a flip. I'm now on the G3, and it's just fantastic... for me. The one thing that the fold has been essential for me is E-tickets, I have been flying a lot recently, and having by boarding pass on a massive bright screen was perfect.

I would love to see more companies do this. I can see a possibility of more innovation coming in. The cover screen is the highlight for me. If for a smaller form factor, you sacrifice the steps it takes to check it or things like quick actions then there's no point. Samsung's lineup with their small fromt panel is still good but theres definitely room for improvement after watching this. And i would think that they were smart to include many of essential accessories inside the box. That plus the price seems like a good selling point.

I am not Arun but my two cent would be that if they somehow find a way to make the screen more durable then yes it would be common in future till then it would be somewhat niche to somewhat reasonable.

My answer is that they are a niche They are just jump points to the next place in the smartphone market. The final point being phones Without bezels, phones with no ports, phones with 360 degree screens and phones which can be folded into small coins or folded upto a big (current size foldable) screen

These kinds of flip phones are a fad. They do not bring much new to the table and in exchange they have worse screens, a hinge, and more design complexity. Tablet sized foldables are the only ones that make sense.

I had the Motorola Razr 2023 and absolutely loved it, I actually got it for $500. Then I upgraded to the Samsung Galaxy Flip 5 and I love it even more! I like the folding concept, the second screen is really nice, and the phone has stayed much less damaged than any other traditional bar smartphone I have owned exclusively because I fold it shut when I'm done using it instead of setting it down like a slab of glass. It's weird because, by design, the phones are more fragile, but due to that folding aspect, to me, it seems more sturdy. I also get way more use out of the second screen than I thought I would initially, it's excellent for checking texts, I'll even catch myself watching KZbin video on and every once in a while. The only issue I have with it and the Razr 2023 is the battery life, flip phones still have a long way to go in that field. Both phones are great and I am totally sold on the flip smartphone!

I know this might aound weird but the reason I am so interested in a folding phone is to add friction so I use my phone less, so I didnt like how foldables were moving to "I have a screen outside so Im actuallly usable!" I love how this one seems to shift to a smartwatch when closed. Still out of my price range, but cool!

The answer to "Is it made by starving children?" is true for every single phone other than maybe Fairphone. Also, yes, it is loaded with bloatware. TECNO phones are on the same level as Xiaomi in terms of that. I daily drive a Spark 9 Pro, that's how I know.
