TECSUN PL-310ET DSP Portable Radio

The TECSUN PL-310ET is a portable AM/FM/SW/LW DSP radio receiver. I mainly use it as a "tuner" when hooked up to a stand along amplifier but also use it to listen to FM music on headphones and FM music and AM talk radio while camping. The internal speaker is not great for music. It's very flat and does not get very loud. It's probably OK for talk radio at best. But the good news is the headphone output is amazing. FM Stereo music on headphones sounds outstanding. The battery life is decent running off 3xAA batteries it will get apx 40 hours of listening time. It can also run off external power via mini USB and can even charge rechargeable batteries when powered from USB. The star of the show for me is the interface. I love the large, bright orange LED lit LCD display. Options are a plenty with time, temp, sensitivity display, lockout feature (so you don't bump the tuner and change the station if it's in your pocket for example) and there's even a "temporary memory" option that will scan the dial and save all detected stations to temporary presets that don't overwrite your normal preset stations. This is great when camping or traveling to different locals.
TECSAN makes many models and most of them on Amazon seem to be popular. There may be similar models to this but with better features. So if you like what you see maybe do a little looking around at the other models before you buy this exact one.

If you hold the 5 button when it's off, it disables the light. I accidentally discovered this and I thought it was broken at first. Also if you hold the FM ST./AM BW button when it's off, everything on the LCD screen will turn on for a second.

Your video was the reason that pushed me to get PL-310ET as my first shortwave radio~. very glad to have heard your opinion on this radio, it matches what i was going after. love that it can accept simple AA rechargeable battery. I am pretty sure i wont be as happy if i gotten the PL-330 due to the Nokia Battery.

Nice radio! TECSUN apparently makes high-end pocket radios from what I'm reading. I may buy one myself though I'm looking at the mp3 player stereo speaker unit. your model is smaller with less features it may be a worthy purchase over the SD version.

I'm looking for a decent FM portable radio but all the reviews on KZbin just seem to concentrate only on the AM bands. I am currently using Tecsun PL-310ET and Tecsun PL-606 but I find these radios have very poor selectivity next to strong stations unlike most Car Radios which have much more narrow reception just like the Sony XDR-F1HD. I am looking to replace my Tecsun with a portable radio with selectivity as narrow as a car radio/Sony XDR. Does anyone have any recommendations please?

Hi, I am a audio guy and listen to lot of podcast. I love radios and I have bought this out of love for its simplicity and shortwave support. I have a question on the battery capacity. What is the battery capacity that you are using in your radio. Like volt and mAh off the battery. Thank you

I got white Eneloops in it. So they're 1.3v and 2,000mah. I have the ni-mh mode turned on so the radio knows there's rechargeable batteries in it I assume that compensates for the lower voltage and the battery life indicator being correct.

Its a nice looking radio only thing which I don't like is the tuning knob. It's not smooth. Does anyone know if it can be replaced with a smooth knob? plz post.

I doubt it when the knob clicks it's a switch telling the radios chip to bump the freq up or down one step. It's just like if u had two buttons to press for up and down except it turns if that makes sense.

@@MN12BIRD Glad to see your reply. Absolutely correct !! Somehow I like the smooth tuning in other Tecsun radio and Kaito/Degen 1103. We are living with internet. But a SW radio catching a long distance station is still a pleasure.

Yes I'm pretty sure there's a setting you have to enable to tell it you have rechargeable batteries and then you can. I haven't tried it but it should work.
