If you didn’t know Teds practice speech to Jamie is actually a word for word reciting of a famous interview response from Allen Iverson back In the day. In the context of the original response it was actually Iverson defending himself missing practice, so for sports fans it’s kinda cool to see them completely recontextualize the words in this show.

The guy who plays Dani Rojas is Cristo Fernández who actually played for a professional Mexican soccer team when he was 15 but he got a career ending injury and became an actor!
@zimvader253 ай бұрын
Also, even though he came in halfway through the season , he wasn’t a late addition to the cast. He was originally going to play the Jamie tartt heel type character but the showrunners created this character for him instead and created the jaime tartt character for Dunster. Best last minute decision any show could’ve possibly made.

Love me a good comeback story! He has a great aura as an actor

Funny thing..I'm also a 'sportscar' guy. Still playing the videogames, they're fun! One of the "Forza Horizon" games is set in Mexico. Christo's in the 'cinematic open' in a dual role as a taxi driver and the passenger that tempts him to drive so crazy. Isn't Christo's audition tape out on the 'net somewhere? I could swear I've seen it. He actually said a couple of lines that eventually ended up being said by Dunster in the show, IIRC.

When Ted is yelling at Jamie - watch again, how Jamie dissociates, it's like he leaves the room (or tries to, spiritually). It took me a while to pick up on it. This episode and the previous one were when my understanding of Jamie deepened - he's one of my favorites now!

The thing I love about this episode, and the story as you guys have now seen it, is that it shows the Schadenfreude Nate experiences in a way that the audience appreciates and respects, and THEN shows, episodes later, the danger of that thinking. It doesn't matter if it's deserved or not, taking joy in the suffering of someone else poisons you as much as it does them. Nate became a bad person and a bad leader because he couldn't overcome his personal perspective. He couldn't escape seeing things from the lens of how they affected him and mattered to him, and therefor empathize. Caring for and empathizing the ones who have hurt you is the ONLY way to break the cycle. Nate didn't do that, and we see what he became.

In Ep2 after they lose the first game under Ted, Arlo White (the announcer) says the team were "disjointed, uninspired, and you'd have to say joyless" and I've always thought that was a reference to Dani Rojas and his unlimited joy.

These characters are based on actual football players. Roy Kent is based off Roy Kean, he is a character. There are clips on youtube that basically put some of the most iconic Roy Kean moments, I recommend people watch it, it is hilarious. Dani Rojas is based off Patrice Evra, Patrice Evra is a French player, during the previous world cup he coined the phrase "I love this game" which is why Dani Rojas would always say "football is life" - obviously they won't have him say the same phrase but it is said in the same tone and energy. He is a ball of energy and it shows in Dani Rojas. There are a few more players who you will see in the coming seasons and their personalities and sometimes their look is based off some of the most iconic players. These icons were iconic for their style of play but also for how they spoke. It makes sense why the show made characters similar to them. I recommend people to serious watch Roy Kean because it is hilarious and everyone would love it.
