So happy you guys are watching this. I don’t know your relationship with football. But it means so much to us fans once you have a club, you support it no matter what. They are such a big part of the cities they originate in and some of the clubs we support have history that goes back hundreds of years. I feel this show does a really good job of showing that and having a great story.

The club I support is Liverpool FC one of the most famous English clubs in the world and was founded in 1892 it’s a very successful club. Real Madrid who is seen as the biggest club in the world is a Spanish club was found in 1902 and is one of the most successful clubs as well. I can go on and on and on about football clubs that are old and have an immense history.

WELCOME TO RICHMOND! I'm so excited for you all to immediately becomes fans of this amazing show. WRT Coaching Soccer - it's very true that at the pro level it's very much about "man management" - handling the players and bringing out their best. There is DEFINITELY still tactics for the team that are important, but that can be handled by the rest of the coaching staff (they do that here, in the show). Also, if you didn't immediately recognize the tower of Awesomeness that is Hannah Waddingham (playing the owner, Rebecca Welton), she was the "Shame" nun from GoT.

In the intro, the Hoosiers movie was mentioned. Fun fact about that movie, i lived in an apartment that used to be a school that had a court that was used for filming part of that movie. The court was still in the apartment when i was living in it, but you had to rent it for an added cost

This show'a success is an underdog story in itself. Ted Lasso and Coach Beard are characters that Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt created for NBC Sports promos when they acquired the rights to the Premiere Leage coverage in US. Making a commercial character into whole blown show/movie never worked before this show. The show was also one of AppleTV+'s first original shows so it was on a new streaming platform as well. When you combine these things this show shouldn't have worked. But it was a HUGE hit, it helped AppleTV+ to took off and it is critically and financially a big success. Even though everybody worked on the show did a great job, the biggest credit goes to Sudeikis who's not only the lead actor but also the creator, a writer and a producer of the show. It won a shit ton of awards like Golden Globes, Critics' Choice, Screen Actors' Guild, Screen Writers' Guild and of course Emmys. They won best comedy show at the Emmys with both of their seasons and I doubt they won't do it again with the third season as well.

I'm so glad you guys are watching this. It's such a good show and came out at a perfect time. I'm sure a lot of people were feeling down and out of sorts in 2019/2020, and this probably helped a lot of people. I passed on this when I heard about it. Football coach coaching soccer? Didn't care. I then skimmed some initial reviews and read about how wholesome, positive and uplifting it was supposed to be and that honestly didn't sound appealing either. It made it sound like an overly optimistic, feel good, drawn out sports movie. Man am I glad I decided to give in. One of my favorite shows of the past few years.

This is one of my favorite shows of all time! I wish more people would react to it. Maybe some people get initially disuaded by the fact that its a show about 'football', but in essence its really not. Don't get me wrong, having only recently grown into becoming an avid soccer fan, I do enjoy the soccer backdrop and the jokes about ties, championship systems, etc, but those are all just that... backdrop. I feel even those who have no knowledge of or interest in soccer should still be able to appreciate this show. Why? Because the actual stories are just great human stories. The characters are all so engaging and believable. The casting of those who play each role is great all around. Every actor/actress is awesome and plays their parts to perfection. Sure their are great humorous bits but when this show does dramatic moments it goes hard and does them so well. So many moments that I felt a tear creep up. Its just such an amazingly well wriitten story about really well written characters that are played beautifully all around. I can't wait for them to drop more episodes!

14:49 Officially Wales is connected to England, part of the United Kingdom (and the heir to the throne is known as the Prince/Princess of Wales (not that there's been many princesses of Wales over the last few generations). But Wales still has it's own language (though it's under risk), it's own national anthem and it's own flag (half white, half green, red dragon). The anthem is called "Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau" (apparently pronounced [heːn wlaːd və n̥adai̯]), meaning 'The Old Land of My Fathers' though it's often just referred to as 'Land of My Fathers', and there's four different lyrics translations: A.P. Graves Translation: "O Land of my fathers, O land of my love, Dear mother of minstrels who kindle and move, And hero on hero, who at honour's proud call, For freedom their lifeblood let fall. Chorus: Country! Country! O but my heart is with you! As long as the sea your bulwark shall be, To Cymru my heart shall be true. II O land of the mountains, the bard's paradise, Whose precipice, valleys are fair to my eyes, Green murmuring forest, far echoing flood Fire the fancy and quicken the blood Chorus III For tho' the fierce foeman has ravaged your realm, The old speech of Wales he cannot o'erwhelm, Our passionate poets to silence command, Or banish the harp from your strand. 𝄆 Chorus 𝄇" The translation by W.S. Gwynn Williams: "The land of my fathers is dear to me, Old land where the minstrels are honoured and free; Its warring defenders so gallant and brave, For freedom their life's blood they gave. Chorus: Home, home, true I am to home, While seas secure the land so pure, O may the old language endure. II Old land of the mountains, the Eden of bards, Each gorge and each valley a loveliness guards; Through love of my country, charmed voices will be Its streams, and its rivers, to me. Chorus III Though foemen have trampled my land 'neath their feet, The language of Cambria still knows no retreat; The muse is not vanquished by traitor's fell hand, Nor silenced the harp of my land. 𝄆 Chorus 𝄇" Translation by Owain Alaw: "Оh! Land of my fathers, the land of the free, The home of the Telyn, so soothing to me; Thy noble defenders were gallant and brave, For thy freedom their hearts' life they gave! Chorus: Wales, Wales, my mother's sweet home is in Wales, Till death be pass'd my love shall last, My longing, my hiraeth for Wales. II Thou Eden of bards, and birthplace of song, The sons of thy mountains are valiant and strong; The voice of thy streamlets is soft to the ear, Thy hills and thy vallies how dear! Chorus III Though trampled and crush'd by oppression's foul wrong, The language of Cambria still lives on in song; The Awen survives, nor have envious tales Yet silenced the harp of dear Wales. 𝄆 Chorus 𝄇" The literal English translation: "The old land of my fathers is dear to me, Land of bards and singers, famous men of renown; Her brave warriors, very splendid patriots, For freedom shed their blood. Chorus: Country, Country, I am faithful to my Country. While the sea [is] a wall to the pure, most loved land, O may the old language [sc. Welsh] endure. II Old mountainous Wales, paradise of the bard, Every valley, every cliff, to my look is beautiful. Through patriotic feeling, so charming is the murmur Of her brooks, rivers, to me. Chorus III If the enemy oppresses my land under his foot, The old language of the Welsh is as alive as ever. The muse is not hindered by the hideous hand of treason, Nor the melodious harp of my country. 𝄆 Chorus 𝄇" Either way, as you can see it's very different from "God Save the Queen/King"

Richmond (the Greyhounds) playing Crystal Palace in Ted's first game is actually a nod to a fact that the stadium scenes are filmed at Selhurst Park (Crystal Palace's home ground). As such Richmond's colours and kit are similar to Crystal Palace (red and blue). Saves on money. Richmond has historically had a bigger affiliation with rugby union. Both London Welsh and Richmond RFC themselves were successful Rugby teams in that area of London (also England's national stadium, Twickenham is located just across the Thames). The biggest football clubs close to Richmond would be Brentford, Fulham and Wimbledon AFC. Crystal Palace's ground is located further away in south London.

Since y'all asked. iirc football started in the middle ages where they would let everybody in a town try to get a ball to the goal ( usually the entrance of the church in the town of the other team ) This meant that dozens ( hundreds? ) of people tried to get a ball from one church to another and it usually became very violent. So much it became illegal to play. Over time the pitch got introduced and other rules to make it more civilized. In fact Rugby was invented by the upper class to play a civilized ball sport. Even today : If you play a game against a team from the same place or against one of your neighbors, it's called a derby and is huge deal if you win that one.

day 1 football fan here. Nowadays there're 2 styles of coaching in football : 1. Tactician: Ted is definitely not this one, lmfao. Nate is. The one who put every piece together, has his own system, blah blah. 2. Manager: the name of this style is a lil bit general, so basically, this style requires the head coach must be a very high-profile ex-player or a successful manager with ex-clubs. No need for a very good system, all of these kinds needs are superstar players, default tactics, and keeping the morale good and the manager's job is literally is tell players: do your magic. This kind is in the red book. Lmao. Ted is this kind, but his players are under English Premier League standard, LMFAO.
