I love that Ted Lasso understood and lovingly embracing his role as a manager with more emphasis on people/personal management, while at the same time gladly delegates the coaching of a more technical aspects to coach beard. Classic two-man manager/coach/gaffer.

Any coaching staff needs balance. You need someone who players can relate to and confide in, someone to help build them up. However, you also need a hard ass who gives them shit when they screw up and doesn't have to be nice about it. Maybe add in a good X's and O's guy to round it out. A good head coach realizes which of those roles is natural for him, and then gets himself a staff who can fill the other roles. The worst is when a coach only brings on assistants who see things the exact same way he does. Terrible idea.
@adamhughes43872 жыл бұрын
@@KS-xk2so which is what we have at Richmond at the end of S2. Ted; the man manager who has built unity, spirit and belief in the team through his personal charm, who the players have bought into and support. Roy; the mean hard arse who's got the playing experience, he's mean and tough but also experienced, knows how it feels to play on the pitch and sit in the locker room and how to get over the hurdles. And finally Beard; who is the knowledgable coach, the one who has almost certainly taught himself the rules and tactics down to the fine print so he understands the tactical side of the game even without having played it himself. Meanwhile Nate at West Ham will only ever see things his way and won't tolerate anyone telling him differently. He's the tactical genius, he understands the game just by watching it unlike Beard who has to read and learn. But he lacks the man management of Ted, the self improvement of Beard and the ferocity and experience of Roy, the combination of which will cost him. His players will fall out with him, doubt him and question him. In response, he will double down on his chosen path and ultimately lose the dressing room.

It also helps when the second in charge (beard) has no ego and is happy in his role, likes the 2 man dynamic and doesn't want to be the solo manager

I know its not often talked about, but in all of Ted's glory of buiding the mental health and individual player quality his other actual amazing ability as a coach is shown here ever so subtlety. Before this episode we have been given evidence that everyone sees Sam as a defender. Including diehard fan Rupert and the guys at the pub. (Put obasanya on defense where he belongs).... But Ted sees Sam for what he truly could be. An out and out midfielder who can create opportunities from the wing. And while Ted may not know the exact details of what he sees this small change of moving Sam to the mdifield completely changed the man's career. In season three we see that Sam is considered one of the absolute best players in the premier league, a feat he probably never reaches on defense even as an overlapping back. What an amazing show. The details are soooo good.

I'm always thinking why a team this solid is not on top of the league, I mean.. In first season it shown that Their bond with one and another is very strong, every player have a good skills, even tho the main coach Ted Lasso didn't really understand about football but learn and very very good at motivating, uniting, raising the morals.. Not only to the players, but also the other coaches and the club staffs.. And then finally in Season 3 I was happy the club was on top of league...
