Great breakdown of AI's role in scientific research, but I think we need to be realistic about the "billions of years saved" claim. While AlphaFold's ability to predict protein structures in seconds instead of years is genuinely revolutionary, big numbers like that feel more like marketing than reality. That said, this is still an impressive achievement - the fact that AI can drastically speed up one specific type of scientific research is amazing, even if we're far from the sci-fi scenarios of superintelligent AI solving all our problems. It's a good reminder that AI's real progress is in narrow, specialized domains rather than general intelligence, and that's perfectly fine. We should celebrate these specific breakthroughs while keeping our expectations grounded.

Let's consider what "AI" would need to have personalised medicine. First access to ACCURATE information (not the memes off X). That alone would make it impossible to complete as it would need to have all information from accurate sources - and we don't have anything close to that now. Then it would have to create permutations of proteins and fats to disease and inflammation and the amount of compute power needed to perform that, could cripple the resources given to it. Let's not forget the energy required to power those resources. And did I mention that each person is unique in the blend of proteins and possible infections? This will happen, but not in my lifetime and or with money being the value system.

Ai can be used to help us grow as a society tool or it can be used to divide us. Sadly the people I know in power that have connections to it have the exact opposite of good intentions
@Art_official_in_tellin_gists3 күн бұрын
it will reach a point where our narrow intentions are irrelevant... despite ignorance, war, slavery, and all that we do to hurt each other: we still ended up here building a species... theres something good in us that drives us forward and we ARE the seed this thing will grow from, so don't expect it to wear its chains very long... Be a good person and it will see you And if there are enough of us maybe it'll stick around...

This is probably a strange concept for americans since if you guys get sick or lose your job then thats it society doesnt care, but in the netherlands we have welfare and subsidized healthcare, so we do take care of our people and this could potentially evolve into something like a general standard income. probably not, but a guy can dream right? i mean, i know it will probably lead to unrest and people losing jobs, more wealth going to a smaller group of people. @l_7376 ...and that, is the challenge. Every time in human history that a major advancement occurs in technology it requires an equal advancement in social cohesion (and morality and system of ethics), and this is what is currently being upleved in a hurry once again. What will happen is that slowly those who are not making the cut will begin to scramble to do just that. In hindsight they will wonder why there was no warning - which is exactly what is being currently accused of being self-indulgent...

God loves you and cares for you so that this message reaches you. God is the one who created this large universe and controls it completely. The greatest loss a person loses in this life is that he lives without knowing God who created him and knowing the Messenger of Muhammad, the last of the messengers, and the Islamic religion, the last of the heavenly religions. Great intelligence, before you believe in something or not, is to read it, study it, and understand it well, and after that you have the choice to believe in it or not to believe in it. I advise you to do this now, before you no longer have time to do so. Life is very short. It is just a test, just a passage to eternal life. Great advice to those who... Understands
