Willard Wigan tells the story of how a difficult and lonely childhood drove him to discover his unique ability -- to create art so tiny that it can't be seen with the naked eye. His slideshow of figures, as seen through a microscope, can only be described as mind-boggling.

I don't care what the negatives are saying this man has a passion for something he does what maybe a 100 human beings or less could do. Out of 7.5 billion people that's something special. This is a gift. Keep up the good work

My professor showed me this video. I am studying to be a reading specialist, specializing in dyslexia therapy. Her point was, that many students feel stupid and don't have their intelligence valued in school. It is important to be cognizant of this and to find ways to build them up with their passions and not tear them down.

Willard gives real meaning to attention to details. You’ve got to be infallible to do what he is capable of doing. Imagine him applying his art to digital networking - the invisible web. Pay attention to the way he tells his story; he is a very patient man, and that right there is his secret to creating these magnificent pieces of art. Well done, Mr. Wigan!

Willard is famous for making the tiniest sculptures in the world! That is something that no one can take away from him. Autism just expresses itself differently that's all. My daughter's boyfriend of 3 years has autism and he is a qualified police officer. He is just like everyone else. Autism is just a different way of thinking and feeling, and really doesn't have to be limiting. All the autistic people I have known are interesting, gifted people in their own chosen subject, just as Willard is.

What a great speaker and how clever witty and funny..He was engaging and enchanting interesting and mesmerizing to listen to...I think I could listen to him for hours..how clearly he describes his methods and tools..along with comedic storylines about how each piece came to be.

As Carl Sagan once said, we live on a Pale Blue Dot, suspended in a sunbeam, this Earth, as large as we believe it is, is actually so tiny it cannot be believed.

I think the message to take from this is "isn't it amazing what human beings can do?" It is inspiring. It suggests that we can do wonderful things as well. But you are right, it does not add to our knowledge or advance science. But it does entertain, and it does have to do with design. Hence, TED.

I admire this man so very much, I can't express. Someone sent this link to me, or I'd never have had the pleasure to know of him. There is no such thing as "nothing." Of course not. But being truly aware helps us to see the world quite differently. I hope the ants finally paid their rent! :)

You see these in the papers from time to time and think it's gimmicky and rather silly. But to hear him talk about them and what goes into their creation really makes you appreciate how amazing and beautiful his work is. A grain of sand? Particles from the air? Inspires me to have more patience in anything I do. Thx Mr. Wigan :)
