@Skrooge Lantay stop lying By the mid-1890s, Menelik was actively suppressing slave trade, destroying notorious slave market towns and punishing slavers with amputation. Both Tewodros II and Yohannes IV had previously outlawed slave trading but since all tribes were not against it and the country was surrounded on all sides by slave raiders and traders, it was not possible to entirely suppress this practice even by the 20th century. While Menelik actively enforced his prohibition, it was beyond his capacity to change the mind of his people regarding this age-old practice.

No my friend you got it wrong here read some real history books that is respected by the international standard.and you will find out fast, that all wars against foreign powers , has bin conducted by HIM JOHANES OF TIGRAY - 11 wars in total against the Turkish-EGYPTIAN army - and after that against the ITALIANS in dugali Eritrea and ADWA Tigray.under the commander general Ras ALULA ABA NEGA. another Tigryan hero.then one more war against the Mahdy SUDANESE.how sages GONDER here comm's the TIGRAYAN again under HIM JOHANES and pushed the sudanese back to there country.and in METEMA sudan and there according to what Etege Taytu had said he died a honourable death for his country.and remember Menelik of Showa and Teklehaymanot of Gojam bin around at the same time but thy never defended Ethiopia against foreign invaders.but it is proven Menelik sold Eritrea to ITALIAN and Jebouty to FRANCE.and what i think is shocking that's another king of Ethiopia that had brought SHAME to ETHIOPIA when the Italian's came back in the 1930's HAILESELASE ran away and left the country and our people alone after he abandoned Ethiopia for 5 years, he coms back withe another coloniser England to help him to get the italians out of the country.I think Etege Taytu as a woman would be ashamed if she knows. even today this behaviour is ben reapeatet again by king abi ahmed the 7's by inviting foreign forces like ARAB drones masters , ERITREAN terrorist's and SOMALI and FANO bandit's to kill and loot in the country.I respect Teddy Afro if he would sing a song for the real defender of ETHIOPIA that had paid his duce withe DIVINE BLOOD for country and people.HIM JOHANES IV OF TIGRAY .and not to Menelik and the rest of them.i believe HIM ETEGE TAYTU will be proud pleased and humbled as women. if the Amharas will stop distorting history under false allegations. now a day's every body can right and read.after you find the truth , you learn to give RESPEKT the real HIROS of ETHIOPIA may god bless you and bless TIGRAY HIM JOHANES IV AND ALULA ABA NEGA for all the freedom that most Ethios are so proud of think about it....

@Thierry Henry lol what did the Arabs do? No Arab has ever sent their army into Somalia. Also Ethiopia never conquered Ogaden region, it is ownership that exists only on paper. To conquer something, the region. has to be subjugated, which is not the case. Only reacently did Abiy make peace with ONLF fighters. Somalia did conquer Ethiopia in the 16th century under the Adal sultunate, and later the Ifat sultanate and all the other sultanates that split after Gureys death. Ethiopia jas never won a single war alone against Somalia that is a fact. But this is internal Horn politics. If you said Ethiopia has never been colonised by foreigners, that would be a true statement. But Oromo, Somali, and Habesha have in their history conquered one another.

The past rests in recognition of all sides of historical truth. One-sided historic narration is nothing but rhetoric.

127 years of legend and true history !!!! Menelik made history @ ADOWA !!! When you have a true leaders you can win any war and challenge!!!! Menelick is a not only a leader rather an example to generation!!!!! A historian can talk about His majesty and ambition of developing Ethiopia and his efforts to modernize Ethiopia but in the 21 st century Menelick and his leadership could not be expressed in a very small terms rather it is one of the greatest crystal historical evidence!! Menelicks strategy and effort as a motivational move!!! When we speak, teach and describe challenges ,we can use Menelick as a role model!! We Africans can use him as a role model and real example!!! His followers and kingdom were organized!! Menelick decree is still one of the short brief order that is still used in war camps!!! It is a very strategic and brief millitary strategy !!!!

Now with all the division and controversy around Aste Menelik- my spirit is even more revived- VIVA MENELIK VIVA ETHIOPIA -This was an African victory - PERIOD I walk w/ my head up because of the sacrifice of united Ethiopia.
@negestsaba4 жыл бұрын
@Skrooge LantayThe transatlantic slave trade was possible because Africans were trading other Africans. Though an ugly reality, its part of our history we must accept. When Menelik issued a decree to abolish slavery, other kings w/in the nation were also trading slaves. It was a lucrative business and an unfortunate order of the day. We celebrate Menelik because w/o his strong leadership to unite diverse peoples of Ethiopia, and w/o him, victory at Adwa would not have been possible.

@Skrooge Lantay Do some research about Meneliks call to abolish slavery. I didn't make it up, its documented. Also, we don't buy the false narration that Menelik was involved in slave trading because he was racist. Menelik's entire army was black. Victims of slavery were either conquered through war much like the rest of the African slaves or viewed as primitive ppls by their subjugators. End of story.
