Great video Teddy. I had a cool idea for a video series that others might like as well. It would be to highlight watchmaking in different regions/countries. Basically you pick a region/country and find definitive watches for different price points
@jrgdrumsandwatches10 ай бұрын
Great video Teddy. I bought the DS-7 black dial a few months ago and I really like it. Yes Certina is my favorite brand and I like the style so I had to get it. I have both quartz and auto PRX models but the Certina is a more modern take. Even if the Tissot looks more flashy and is very well finished, the Certina feels more premium and you have to hold it in hands to see it. The case finish feels so smooth, no sharp egdes, very comfortable. The crystal has more anti reflecting coating and the bezel is much more complex. You pay a bit more but yes you get a bit more in my opinion. Also some don't like Tissot's Powermatic 80 23 jewels version you get with the PRX. And thanks for adressing the movement confusion, many still mixing Powermatic with the Swatch System51 for some reason. I guess when other famous KZbinrs give false informations for years about this it doesn't help (yes talking to you, Tristano)

@jrgdrumsandwatches10 ай бұрын
@@Seajay2016 I had one of mine serviced from an independent watchmaker but he didn't have to replace parts. Still most of the parts are identical to the 2824-2 so if it doesn't need replacement of a Powermatic specific part it shouldn't be a big deal.

Nice alternative. I'm still wishing that Swatch Group had left an easily adjustable regulation lever (as on ETA 2824) when they introduced the eighty hour pr movements. It's telling that Tissot used a 2824 on their recent heritage 1938 chronometer reissue.

Teddy, I'm always curious about which watch you have on in each video. While stating in each video what is on wrist may not be something you want to do, I think having it in the description would be great. It'll give ppl an idea of how a particular watch wears naturally on a person with similar sized wrist. And I think ppl in general would like to know what you wear and what's in your collection. ;-) But seriously, the size for reference would be great from a zoomed out view.

Tried the PRX and Tsuyosa. Sold them both. The 40mm & case shape was way too big for my 17,5cm. Plus this particular genre & style demands a more elegant look, that you can not provide, if you offer a bigger case design. Now I am very happy with my light blue Certina DS 7! You can click the endlinks even down and reduce the lug to lug span & the case design on the edges feels more „correct“ than on a PRX.

Let's be honest, no one can beat the PRX, especially the automatic version, in that price segment, even watches that are a few thousand dollars more expensive. Why? 1) Bracelet quality is almost at the same level as luxury watches, I even claim it is better than SMP 300 ugly bracelet, oyster bracelet etc. 2) The mechanism may be low 3hz beat , but this watch keeps time very well, it did not deviate even 1 minute on my wrist in a month. 3) The brand, yes it is not as cool as luxury brands, but Tissot is a really nice watch brand with a good history. 4) Leather strap and rubber strap offer options suitable for all seasons and tastes. 5) It is versatile 6) Yes, this is a characteristic watch that deserves to be included in a distinguished collection. 7) It has excellent finishing on its case and bracelet. 8) The anti-reflection coating on the sapphire glass has a high-level coating. Brands need to work much better to compete with this watch.

Yes, this offering from Certina is OK but falls short of the PRX in terms of aesthetic appeal and bang for buck. I got my PRX in December and wear it more than anything else . . . Longines and Oris included. Everything else looks boring in comparison, including this DS-7.
@KC-bv9kf10 ай бұрын
I have been collecting for over 20 years with over 100 pieces currently, agnostic to price and brands. I have the ice blue 40 mm prx and 40 mm nordic blue cw twelve. Except for the movement, the prx is a level or two below the cw. The movement is not important to me because when I look at my wrist, 2 s/d difference is inconsequential. The sharp underfinished case and bracelet, especially the sharp underside, with flatter lugs, and clasps hot spots are some revealing differences. The prx is good and probably segment leader for integrated under 1k (gently used for around 450 usd). However, approaching 1k, the cw and the f77 have to be the first choices. Additionally, I have the blue ds 2, and the ds case of Certina has to be factor to consider for a beater. I am looking at my 4 integrated (prx, cw, atelier wen, and 15550) now and the cw is the best bang for the buck. Imho

@salvadorHombre10 ай бұрын
@@Dazulolwarrior is this about the plastic parts? Because you should know that these movements are easily serviceable at a low price from Tissot. Nobody has reported the nylon parts inside the watch breaking so far. It's just watch nerds making a mountain out of a molehill. The only weakness this calibre is known to have is that hand winding it too often can damage it (causing spinning rotor syndrome). But that's hardly a dealbreaker. The ETA C07.111 and C07.611 are solid movements and the people hating on it are largely misinformed.

Is it worth it to invest in a "gold" watch? It seems that watch manufacturers increase the cost of the watch way higher than the market value of the metals used.
