Also, If we ourselves don't know ourselves cognitively & completely, then it's more likely that he'd feel the way he does. Not to mention, he's only divulging parts of himself that need dealing with in the moment to remain "stable," which is usually how most of us approach self-care.

I usually don’t comment but Therapy session is imo a masterpiece. He understands that people hear what he is saying, but after the shows they ask for pictures expexting him to smile, talk, etc. I feel like depression can become so strong that anything adressed to him (solutions, support) don’t help him at all, hence they don’t understand what he needs like some people still to this day don’t understand that he does it firstly for him. In intro 3 you will also see the debate between him and fear about the slogan “real” so when you have thoughts if he is actually being real, it gets sort of contradicted. Same with the smile, where you say that you’ve seen him smile a lot in videos but like in “Hope”, his dark side wears the joker smile which is obviously different from a true smile. Music is the only way he can express his emotions and they are mostly rage and anger, hence his music is highly agrresive and to the people who don’t listen to lyrics might seem violent. All in all, his music is his therapy and it just happened that he helped a lot of others as well and it is a stimulus for him to continue. “Outro” literally invites you to join when you are having bad times and listen to his lyrics and “Just like you” acknowledges that there are millions of people who struggle with the same issues

You could not have said it better. This is exactly how I have always thought he feels. He puts his true self out there but the way the fans react to it is contradictory to how he truly feels, they want him to smile for the cameras and act happy and that is where he feels like honestly nobody knows him.

Also, he mentions people coming up to him like “bro”… almost like their interaction with him is about their own moment in the limelight… so different than being “real”. The positive stories he shares of time with his fans is when they lay out their own feelings.

Hearing a person's story and truly knowing them aren't the same. I think that's what this is. You see what he shows you, and he tries to be open, but that doesn't mean you REALLY know. I also think it's a reverse of the first verse where the kid is saying they've never met but he swears NF knows him. NF shows as much as he can of himself, but despite that he doesn't have anybody he feels truly knows him, at least at this point in his career.

16:20 as someone who has been dealing with depression for 3-4 years now I can confirm that depressed people do smile, especially while being in public and around people you don't really know, and, therefore, can't or don't want to show your true emotions (so basically anytime an artist is in public) But I really enjoy the way you dig into the lyrics and his music in general, one of the best NF reactions I've seen. It's great that you ask questions and express your thoughts, keep up the good work

For me, I tell people everything about it. I can tell you stuff about my life that will make you cry but even if I tell someone everything there is to say about me I still won't feel like they know me because of the walls that I have up inside. My past and my stories and stuff like that don't feel real to me because I've disassociated from them. So for me I can share everything and still feel alone and like no one truly knows me because I'm not letting them in.

Hi. I believe that even if you were at the place where you wanted to let people in, for trust to be rebuilt and healing to take place you’d need wisdom in choosing healthy people, or a professional counsel who should know how to deal with hard situations, memories or trauma. Regular people don’t know how to do that, even those that may mean well, and they may end up doing more harm than good, and you may get more hurt instead of healing. Seek real help if you need to, because there is life beyond the hurt, you just need to find the courage to embark on that healing journey, that many times feels like it pushes the knife into the wound and twists it making it it more painful, but sometimes the blade needs to be twisted in order to be pulled out. You see, you were brave enough to admit you can’t open up. Celebrate that! I feel like a part of you wants to get that help but is scared. It’s ok. It’s normal to be scared! But you can chose to live with the agony or decide to get on the train. Find a safe place to get healing and you will heal!

being in depression I can tell you that when he said that he feels like that nobody know him it's a genuine feeling. See he 's portraying his emotion through a song to which people relate. so when he's the story teller people can relate to the story but he has noting to relate to them except that he know people are going through stuff. I hear people say that when you're in depression you should talk it out and share it with your close ones. And honestly telling it never ever helped me. Even after telling people about your suffering tears roll down on your face and when the story is over you're left with emptiness which will fill up again in sometime with same grief. it doesn't make you feel good at all.

About the "nobody knows me" I would say that at that point it might have been true - on the Mansion album (Therapy Session was not yet crated) there were a couple of personal songs but not much about his struggles with depression or anxiety and all his inner demons and doubts. Plus I would say that a lot - not all but a lot - of his "fans" just want more. They just take and ask for more without considering or even caring what it actually costs him. I can't imagine sharing with the whole world my personal trauma, then being asked to repeat it all over again on tours, other people sharing their own trauma with me and adding pressure and others saying "that was great and btw, when will you give us new music?"
@mariabremberg4473
@mariabremberg4473 Жыл бұрын
Those who relate with NF may share similar traumas and issues, but they are not looked up to by thousands of people as a symbol of hope or salvation or whatever. Being told by people that you have literally saved their life has to be immensely overwhelming. And there are not many people in this world who recieve that kind of intimate trust from strangers. He is probably very lonely in that particular role. I think that is what he was referring to when he said people don't know him.

I think that a big part of where it’s hard to understand feeling like no one knows you, if you remember back to Mansion, he compartmentalizes a lot of things. At the end of that track he talks about the room where he doesn’t let anyone in and if he did he’s scared they might disappear. So we only get to see what he has decide that he’s ok with showing us. Or to put it another way, he grew up with a lot of childhood trauma. That has a way of messing with one’s perception on a lot of things. Often it makes someone who feels like they are fundamentally different from other people and is really very lonely “I feel like nobody knows me”. I know I’ve gone through those thoughts and I suspect Nate has as well.

One thing to consider is how early in the journey this track is. You'll continue to watch him evolve and everything will come together. Every video, every album is foreshadowed. As you continue to watch and listen, you'll start putting all the pieces together. It's pure genius. Really pay attention to the videos if you can. As someone else who appreciates lyrics over visuals, I know how tough that is. I've listened several times to certain songs. It's been mind blowing.

Hey man I really enjoy your reactions. You seem to have been struggling with NF and how he thinks and of course everyone is complex. I think you are overthinking it a bit, and please remember the depression and anxiety and all those things that's a constant struggle for people and it's never definitively over. It's not that he doesn't have moments of happiness and joy the His struggles are real and he probably has more than the average person with his work ethic in the fame and everything he deals with. So don't get too hung up on it and overthank it. His music's relatable to everyone at some level and that's the important thing. Keep up the good work.

1) Our feelings lie. So you can be surrounded and still "feel" like nobody knows you or cares whether that is true or not. 2) If we tell someone our issues, I think they see it like a painting and interpret it, but their interpretation is an echo of the truth of what we actually are living through. 3) Depression will lie to you know matter how much proof you have in another direction. 4) I've really been loving your reactions.

The "honestly I feel like nobody knows me" bar resonates with me so deeply, it's very real. It doesn't matter how much of yourself you put out there, you can bare your whole soul to the world, but that doesn't make up for the lack of connection in your own life or how lonely you feel. Which in a way makes you keep wanting to put yourself out there hoping that someone will hear you and listen and understand, but having millions of fans doesn't make you any less alone. Especially given how personal his music is and everyone comes up to him to tell him how much it means to them because of how much it has affected their own lives, which is amazing, but I'd imagine that sometimes it only amplifies how alone he feels. They're relating and interpreting his music through their own experiences, which are different than his, and no matter how real it is for the listener, it's not the same for Nate. We all connect to the emotions he is putting out there, and for many of us it puts into words the things we can't, speaks to our souls and makes us feel understood and like we know him in turn. But at the end of the day there are things he keeps to himself and isn't ready or willing to put in his music, and while the emotion may be the same, our traumas are different. We can't possibly know the true depth of his every word and what it means to him. The fact that it resonates with so many people and has helped them to heal along with him is truly beautiful. But having so many strangers approach you and say they know you... I'd imagine that on a good day it can feel rather surreal, and on a bad day it can be even more alienating. And when you can't even deal with your own trauma, it's a big burden to bear. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As for the smiling with depression, you definitely do. You have to mask, you have to prepare yourself to be out in public and put on a face, and it is exhausting. But when you do get a chance to smile, I feel like they are often bigger and more genuine smiles, but they can also be fleeting and even when real still have an underlying hollowness. Or perhaps more of an aftertaste of hollowness, if that makes sense. I did like the bit of your reflection on the lyrics in time, from when he's writing and performing and whatever it may be that he is still feeling. I would say that in order to be able to write about it he has to deal with and figure out how he feels, and maybe it becomes easier to talk about, but he's not necessarily over it. He's generally at least found some clarity through the writing process, but he is still processing his emotions. He might not even understand it, so it certainly isn't something we have to understand. You made a lot of really nice points throughout. I always love your reactions, and I'm so glad to see you are making the NF journey~

His music is real, but we hear it through our individual filters and contextual understanding of specific words and don't see everything in his life. He's also growing and evolving - how can anyone of us completely know someone we live with, let alone those who are vulnerable with us.

Love your reaction as always. On the one bar that you don't understand, I think that someone can share a lot about their life but still feel misunderstood or alone. For instance, my father knows a lot of the things that I had to experience, but I don't feel like he knows me. Also, sometimes our darker experiences can make us feel isolated and alone. Even from those who grant us compassion and care. There's a major difference between knowing someone and *knowing* someone.

Depression is a deep and dark pit. Like the previous poster said you can be in a building or stadium full of people and still feel alone and lonely. Also remember in mansion he said that he's the type of person that would rather just paint over something than solve or deal with it. So that could also bring us back to the point where those emotions that he is battling with keeps coming back. Fear and self doubt is like a hydra, you chop of one had and 7 others grow back...

My personal take on it is that knowing and understanding and two different things. Its like you said you've been listening to music since you were born, you've said it and we know, bt do you feel we really understand what music means to you? People can know everything about someone, but few will understand them and their struggle. Generally understanding will come from people who have walked more than a mile in your shoes. It's like I know what it's like to be blind, I can close my eyes. But I will never understand it until I myself am unable to see light anymore. I can close my eyes, but I will always have the option to open them when I want, therefore I can't relate to someone who cannot no matter how much they want to.

When he says “I see a whole lotta talking on socials, but I don’t see nothing in public” I think he’s just talking about people being fake on the internet. Typing something that they would never say to your face. Not specifically about him, but in general. He’s not egging anyone on.

I’ve dealt with clinical depression for years. I guarantee you some of the pictures you find of me smiling or laughing are very well my darkest times. I smile, joke, and laugh to put you at ease but in my mind I’m still in that dark & scary warzone.

10:09, i love watching people discover Nates songs for this reason. They understand him more and more as they watch on. Hopefully his song, 'Only' will help you with understanding this line.

NF does give us a front row picture of things he has gone through and things he goes through. But those are snap shots, and then there are the things that happen behind the scenes that we might be able to infer from but don't know... There is also a difference in knowing about someone and actually knowing someone. Then there is the effects of anxiety and depression, OCD in particular can make you feel like an outsider even with people who do know you.

This was written still kind of early in his career and although his lyrics are real he was also still carving out his identity. One of his lyrics in another song I can't remember which but it basically implies that he still has his own masks he wears too. The Search will show you a lot

It is kind of ironic that NF feels like that people don't even know him when the people that take pictures know more about NF than NF knows about the people he is taking pictures with

I feel like even when u share something u never say EVERYTHING. There are still things he never told to anyone maybe just his therapist. But when he says he feels like nobody knows him means he feels like there is still so much inside him that he didn't show to people

You see pieces, glimpse, not the whole picture. Like he said in mansion you can’t come in to some of those places. You also have to remember therapy doesn’t mean you are pass it. Just that you are finally dealing with it.

I think there may be a past to present tense scenario that happens in his music. When NF writes the lyrics to the time we receive the video there has been quite a bit of time that has passed from one instance to the other. So yes, during the time he was writing the song he was probably going through it, but by the time the video releases he will have worked through it. Also, don't be confused about depression. Robin Williams dealt with deep depression, but he was one of the most loved comedians in the world. Same for Jim Carrey. To us, people who suffer from depression may look extremely happy at surface level, but in reality are suffering deeply. I highly respect your authentic reactions. It is so humbling witnessing someone embrace what they are trying to experience and realize. Keep up the amazing work!

I always took that line in step with the line in Mansion where he talks about there being an inner room that he doesn't let anyone into. He let's us in on the hard stuff and things he's dealt with and it makes us all feel like we know him really well, but he feels like no one actually knows him because he hasn't spilled it all to everyone and keeps some things inside.

Knowing a person is not a one hour conversation. It's something that only happens with months and years of coexistence with each other. Nate opens some doors for us using the music like and outlet. But is that enought to say that we know him? He has his own private scars, battles and struggles, doors that he has the right to use the keys to open...or not. When he says he feels it's like no one know him, it's true. We are only people which acceded his mind, feelings and moments of life through minutes of music. That not make us a knowing all Nate's life. But for sure make us to have the privilege of appreciate real, touching, raw and beautiful music and lyricism. Thanks Teddy for another great reaction. Along the Journey, some things will make more sense. Don't worry ☺️

It’s impossible for others to completely comprehend the way another person feels and to understand all the things they do even if they shared every detail. I smile a lot but that’s not a reflection of how I feel. I could tell you every detail but you can never truly see the whole picture because some of us have been through multiple experiences that have been traumatising but we all handle it differently. I’ve been most of those kids in this video and when depression and anxiety hits, I could pour my heart out to you but no one understands how I truly continue to struggle to live. I can talk about how debilitating depression is but the whole story behind it can never truly be understood by anyone other than myself which makes you feel alone and what Nate does is tell you that you’re not the only one that feels this way.

@@morce6163 yep that's the whole thing with outcast and intro 3 as well, he's trapped himself in a cage aka mansion but he's aware he's the one that can get himself out but is too scared to because he's worried that his pain/fear who were the emotions that got him this career, without them would end it. This new album Hope I think is about to show a new side of him that he can make music without these emotions that are causing him to suffer. In Hope you can actually see fear trying to break free again but finally he's managed to shut him out hope taking the reigns.
