The crazy king in the wild showed up after Apeas said that the #1 kings that get a treasure from the vault end up insane or missing. Series only gets better from here, great reactions so far.

I love the little details. The puppeteer was very surprised, when Bojji gave him a gold coin. While when Kage gave, that vegetable salesman a gold coin, he just threw a single tomato on the street. Showing, that he could've got way more than just a single tomato.

I think the crazy guy was a former rank #1 King. It's no coincidence that they showed us the dialogue between the ranker and Apeas right before. What's this treasure that every 1st ranked King picks from the vault and how does it drive them mad to the point where they choose to leave their kingdom and choose a life of isolation

They actually sort of eluded to what he is near the beginning of the episode, though who exactly he is, is a spoiler so no comment there. But as the examiner said every king who placed first took the same "treasure" and each one went mad or died. He was one of those kings who went mad.

He releases his son at the end of the season, he was talked about as having gone mad from choosing a treasure. So no, it's not a theory at all...
