I love ballet. When I was first getting into Tchaikovsky, I used to listen to the music and enjoy it of course, but I was very curious to see the dances that went along with them. I started watching Swan Lake one night with no intent to watch the entire ballet but I was so entranced I watched it all. Ballet is so beautiful and expressive.

Okay, so I know everyone's complimenting the animation, but, let me just say, that echape needs some serious knee straightening . . . Also, that "x" thing? That's mime. You can have conversations in ballet using mime. A scene that captures mime? In Giselle where Albrecht and his adviser talk about maybe not going to Giselle's house (we all know how that turned out).

@@alassante yes, exactly! There are so many ballets that aren't the stereotypical pink sugary frills (like the Nutcracker or Sleeping Beauty, though I enjoy those too) that are often glossed over. I mean, the Mayerling is about a drug-addicted prince and his suicide pact with his mistress, Anastasia is about Anna Anderson's time in a mental institution, and that's not to mention adaptations from books like Frankenstein, 1984, The Winter's Tale...

What is the pointe of ballet? Ladies and gentlemen let me elaborate 1. It is one of the product of marriage between ART and SPORT (the other product? Other dance genre of course) 2. If you are telling dancers that dance is not a sport, or in this case Ballet. Try walking on this shoes called Pointe, on your tippy toes, and tell us if your legs doesn't feel like cramping and your toe nails doesn't feel like falling off. 3. Just like reading, you can escape and experience variation of stories. You can be a marionette, a swan, a princess, a witch, a queen, a fairy, a soldier, and so many more. 4. Ballet can be enjoyed by many people. From early age such as 5 year old even until you are old At least there are those. There are ups and downs, but ballet will always be one of the best part of my life 💛

I was wrong thinking this video will tell "what is the point(purpose) of ballet".😂 But then again in these difficult times of coronavirus you try to question the necessity of everything.

Great video but just to pinpoint: the drawing you present of an echappé actually is representing another jump: changements :) An echappé would have the first landing be on a open position (either 2nd or 4th) and only the second landing would return to the original position (in this case, and most commonly, 5th)! But thank you for promoting our beautiful art form

Well I just realized I need to learn to speak ballet if I really want to avoid missing out on such a sophisticated form of communication.

If you think ballet is a sport please like. If you dont, please explain in the comments. I dance, and I think it is a sport, but please tell me if you disagree.

One could say it's an elegant combination of sports and art.

I think it’s an art that requires the same or similar determination and commitment that a lot of athletes have. Why do you think it’s a sport? I’m curious.

Nv Loz you know, while i disagree with the fact that it is a sport, I want to thank you. You gave a very good reason. People have told me the following, dance is not a sport because it is easy. Or that dance is something anyone can be amazing at, so it is not a sport. The definition if sport is a competitive physical activity. Ballet can be competitive. You could also play soccer non competitively, and it would still be a sport. I know this is long, but I think It does an ok job at explaining.
