Andrew Potapenkoff I think cats understand when someone they love is feeling under the weather, hurt or distressed so they try to heal them through what they do best. Purring. In fact, scientists have proven that a cats purr is healing to them and to us. Cats are complex and sometimes frisky creatures, but I think they're just as loving as dogs. €: (when they feel like it)

Someone told me a story of a guy who broke his leg badly and had to rest on his bed for days and his cat started to sleep specifically on his hurt leg and purr like all day long. When he recovered, his doctor told him that it was surprisingly fast. The guy was intrigued and after some research discovered that the cat’s purring frequency is, as the video said, perfect for tissue regeneration. His cat *knew* that and dedicated his time in healing his human. I find that pretty cool.

There was actually a study that found cats do actually love us. The study found cats won't explore an unfamiliar environment without their "parent" within eyesight. It's often interpreted as a cat needing the security of knowing their "parent" is nearby to comfort and protect them.
@ginnundso3 жыл бұрын
So true ig. I just moved to my brother who has cats and whilst there is no unfamiliar environment here, whenever there was a weird sound they looked in that direction and then looked at me. And only when I stood up and went to go see what it was the cat would follow me. I don't think that was because of the "yeah you have to die for me" thing that many people would say it was. I think it was because he wanted me with him to be safe and sound.
@ESwift-Arts3 жыл бұрын
Anybody with a nervous cat that is bonded to them knows this- my shy cat will only explore certain parts of the house that she doesn’t consider her territory when I’m there by her side to encourage her. If I leave her tail goes down and she slinks close to the floor- when I’m with her she raises her tail and explores more confidently but keeps looking back to me for reassurance that I’m still there. Cool that they could prove it in a study
@km1dash63 жыл бұрын
@@ESwift-Arts so here's why it needs to be confirmed. I have 3 cats. Two of them won't move around the house if I'm not there. One seems not to care if I'm there or not unless a stranger comes into the house; then he goes up to my room and hides under my bed. That is interesting because it shows that cats and humans act similarly and have similar dispositions. It's not just us projecting human emotions on them, and it shows that things like love and attachment are basic to social social animals.

Their transition going from murderous barn cats to being domesticated was fast, and they both turned into the best cats I've ever met.

Actually them bringing you the prize of their hunt is a token of love. It's a gift from them. :) On the night of my 16th birthday at exactly midnight, my cat brought me a live bird. I always loved birds but wouldn't want to keep one in a cage...I'd usually just look at them from afar in the garden. After careful examination it appeared the bird wasn't hurt at all by my cat. So I had the opportunity to just take it into my hands, look at it from upclose, somewhat pet it too, for just a few minutes. Then my cat and I both went upstairs to the biggest window of the house, and I freed the bird. We watched it fly away together in the night sky and went to bed afterwards. I was afraid he'd be upset I had freed his gift, he had proved quite upset at me getting rid of the occasional dead rodent offering, but not this time. Even a few years later it remains one of the best and most special birthday gifts I ever had. 🧡

My cat only messes with stuff when she sees a human doing it. Ie, Christmas: I put ornaments on the tree, she immediately wants to bat at the ornaments, too (yet typically doesn’t actually knock them off or break them, and generally calms back down once the Decorating Frenzy is done...until it’s time to take things down, anyway) Similar scenario with puzzles and legos, or if I’m drawing or writing or reading, or if I’m playing an instrument. (She thinks my singing is a cry of distress, though. Which, RUDE. I sing fine, kitty!) So...yeah. It’s literally mimickry. All my cats have also learned to be just shy of opening doors (paws are the wrong shape. But they’re still dangerous if the door isn’t latched Just So, or if the handle’s a lever vs knob), and I swear my Mimic Cat also has her own language of meows and chatters full-on sentences, and tries mimicking English with a cry that sounds suspiciously like “Ma!” ...it’s both endearing and somewhat frightening how clever they actually are (and how much language they actually understand aside from tone and context/intent.) I’ve also noticed distinct behavioral changes when I got my family to stop calling her a “brat” unless she was actually in trouble-less submissive behavior and general mischief. Although I swear she spent about half a week “testing it out” like a kid pushing boundaries

But yeah, cats hunt solo and sometimes run entirely solo, they also form loose communities so the can have more pairs of eyes and ears keep an eye out for predators/rival species. And for mama cats, the ability to get a kitten sitter so they can stretch their legs and get a nice hunt in. The more socially inclined cats do share food with those they like, which is why pet cats on occasion bring back dead things for their humans. They see humans as group members, no clear data yet if they believe us just deaf near bald cats or know us as a different species though.

My cat Marian recently began alerting me to my anxiety and panic attacks before they happen. She’s my Emotional Support Animal, and I’ve barely had her for a year (she’s about 21 months old), but I never could have imagined that she would teach herself to “task” like a service dog is taught to do. When she senses it, she herds me toward my bed, and lays on my chest and purrs once I lie down. I then start having very recognizable symptoms, and eventually have the attack. Once it’s over, she hops off my chest and walks away like it never happened. She’s done it at least three times within the past six months. It’s really amazing how she’s so insistent about it, too. She knows what I need before I do, and is really good at taking care of me during my episodes. She’ll lick my forehead sometimes, too, and always curls up next to me in bed at night. I really love that cat 🐈

i started having heart complications about two years ago, and my first sign was my mom’s cat coming to lay on my chest. this cat is like 15 years old at this point, and wouldn’t normally be able to jump onto beds. she was also grouchy, so she did not like to cuddle. but this lil girl, came over, wiggled her way up, and specifically got onto my chest and began purring as hard as she could. got my mom to check my heart, and that boy was going bonkers.

The vid can be summed in one sentence: "They act strange 'cause EVOLUTION" ... I mean... WOW, the insight! I hoped to learn how specific behaviors were used advantageously, when they were still living in the wild, so, to me personally, it was kind of a let down tbh. Nothing wrong with the video per se, just didn't meet my expectations.

I'm recovering from injuries from a car accident right now. While stuck in bed my cat comes and snuggles and purrs but when she leaves she steps on every bruise and scrape on her way out. I think she's trying to tell me she's in control of my healing.
@lenlimbo7 жыл бұрын
She is trying to help. Contrary to popular believe, cats are very loyal. Just in their own way. One day, in the middle of a storm, when I had a blackout in my house and I was alone with my old cat (I was still a kid), she made sure to be always next to me, like she was trying to reasure me, a bit like saying "It's okay, nothing is going to happen". Funny thing is, I don't really mind storms, so it wasn't like I needed it, I was more bored than anything else, really. But I appreciated the gesture for what it was, she caring for me just like I cared for her. I miss the old girl.

Cats don’t scratch furniture to “sharpen their claws”. They have scent glands between their toes, so they actually scratch to mark their territory & communicate with other animals. Territorial boundaries & owning items makes them feel secure. Other than that, great & accurate info in this video!

I think cats see us as Mother cats who don't kick them out of the nest. Mother cats are excessively devoted and caring of their young. Kittens don't leave their mothers voluntarily. They are driven off by the mother when she goes into estrus again. In a few days, the mother goes from doting and fussing to whacking and hissing. Kittens are naturally confused. Cats are just trying to get back to the momma cat that loved them. Mother cats set a high standard of care and cats come to us with high expectations. We become that loving parent who never makes them leave home. We feed them and groom them (strokes and scratches) and they can snuggle with us, all while being able to be independent and active.
@KindredBrujah6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I also think this is true. Every time I see some bollocks article suggesting cats see us as big cats who are terrible hunters it makes me roll my eyes. Yeah, we must be terrible hunters seeing as we have enough spare food to feed the cat *several times a day*! Sigh.

Informational, but a couple details wrong. Housecats are actually quite social in the wild, and live in colonies, hunting and raising kits in groups. This is why they hunt surplus and give prey to humans, allow trusted humans near their kits, and groom & rub against each other to keep a shared scent. They usually see humans as fellow colony members; not predator, prey, or young.

Feral cats will live in groups if enough food is available nearby. It's usually a family group descended from a female. Cats in this group will give each other food, allow other kittens to feed if they have kittens of their own and look after kittens that aren't theirs. Their behaviour strongly suggests that cats see us as part of this group.

Dogs and cats will both eat their owners, read my comment again

Still better than what humans would do. While pets only eat their deceased owners, humans in starvation wouldn't wait for the pets to die, they would kill them first...

A lot of people think that cats are scared of cucumbers. They are actually scared, because that thing wasn’t there before. It’s like you turn around and suddenly you see someone standing behind you. The cucumber prank is also very bad for the cats mental health, so don’t do it! Cats are animals that have learned to live with us. And we should appreciate that!🐱

THANK YOU! The idea that cats have some special fear of cukes is so ridiculous I can't even, and yes, every time I see someone terrorizing a cat for "fun", let's just say it's a good thing for them I haven't witnessed something like that in person. What is wrong with some people?

One of if not the most peculiar human behaviors is the enjoyment in doing nothing, wether it be sitting down looking at the skulls, or a tiny slate that displays light.

They seem genuinely puzzled that I would presume to scrape through their litter every day. At least not as annoying to them as what I presume to do with this here guitar!

@Jacob Zondag nah more like birds evolved from reptiles, and reptiles from amphibians. If lizards/snakes/crocs and frogs taste like a more swampy chicken it's because chicken tastes like the o.g. swampy boys

When I was young I had a cat named Stella. Just about every night I’d go to the porch and call for her to come home. Without fail she’d be there within two mins or so and almost always with dinner of sorts for me. Birds, mice, gophers, snakes she offered quite the nightly menu🤣

Point of advice: if you cat is scratching your furniture and stuff try to get piece of firewood. I used to head with a wood stove and my cat loooved using pieces of wood to sharpen his claws. He never really scratched anything else.
@cayvil8 жыл бұрын
Although wood could cause splinters and unneeded cuts on the underside of a cat's paws. I like to try cardboard boxes with my cats! I have three of them, and 2/3 prefer the box over furniture or anything in the house. They'll just tear through a corner, and when they've gotten through, just turn to another corner.

Um, are you people not aware of all the corugated cardboard scratching toys and furniture designed specifically for this reason. They are very mainstream, you can find them at Petsmart, Petco, Petco . c o m carries them deeply discounted. Are you not aware of scratching posts for cats????? Firewood is dangerous and pretty outdated.
@Selestrielle7 жыл бұрын
Mine will only scratch the front entrance carpet, I get those rough industrial ones so they last longer. Even then, I have to get a new one every 6 months or so. At elast it's not the couch I guess.
@marshmallowmountains46367 жыл бұрын
If your cat is scratching furniture, put duct tape that is sticky on both sides on whatever they are scratching. They won't like the feeling and learn to not scratch it. Then you can take off the tape. You also at the same time need to provide a scratching post for your cat, and if they like catnip (not all cats do) rub catnip on the post to get them interested.

We gave our cat treats when she used her scratching post for the first while. Now she uses it when she wants attention, as well as to sharpen her claws. She still tears up paper and cardboard boxes, but she doesn't scratch furniture. She was 9 when we got her too, so it's not a matter of training them young.
