I’ve struggled with post partum depression and having intrusive thoughts of harming my baby. I’ve come to terms with it thanks to realizing that it will never lead to actual harm. The best way I’ve heard it explained is that the brain is thinking of worst case scenarios so you can avoid those. When you think about throwing a baby down the stairs, you take a step away from the stairs. Your brain just doesn’t care how bad the thoughts make you feel. When I stopped thinking my brain was terrible for thinking those things and started thinking it was trying to protect us, it helped me a lot! So I’m glad this video explains yet another terrible thing our brain does, and yet we shouldn’t feel terrible about.

This is a thing I noticed. I saw parents physically and emotionally harming their kids but they always said that they do it out of love so that they will teach their baby how dangerous the world is. My theory was that parents who harmed their kids that way wanted to protect them so hard that it created a contrast in their brain in a way they actually harmed them. I saw a case in crime investigation a mother trapped her child in the basement because she was afraid her child would be kidnaped or harmed by strangers so as an ultimate desire to protect her, she trapped her in the basement like that no body will harm her child (The mother was eventually arrested in the end)

Maybe it comes from feeling that you've lost all control because the thing is so cute it has power over you. Maybe it's some kind of self-defense that helps to make you feel in control again. I've never felt any violent or aggressive thoughts when exposed to extreme cuteness but I've definitely felt a sense of weakness or as if I've been completely taken control of which almost makes me feel a kind of suffering or pain. Surely that aggression some people feel is tied to that suffering. I think cute agression is byproduct of trying to grasp *more of the cute object* . For example, You don't watch movie with sounds off. Do you ? You prefer to engage all your senses as much as possible. Similarly, You aren't going to be content with just seeing an adorable baby. You want to kiss the baby, & embrace, etc. Same goes for romance. You want to engage all your senses. That's why love bites are a thing. You *want* the full experience of the something you admire in all ways possible. You want to squeeze out all the ways you can experience the cuteness. Not just the visuals. You want to smell it, touch it, hear it & also taste it.

He is highlighting domestication of the fox which simply selected for less agressive behavior and resulted in puppy floppy ears and curly tails. The cat’s features that we love so much were already there designed to make them better diminutive nighttime predators. Even the original fluffy cat was a landrance adaption to help hunt and survive in the cold. In many ways cats and dogs domesticated themselves as it was their initial approach and tolerance of us that weeded out the passive versus agressive.

When I look at my floppy Labrador dog It hurts sometimes how cute that being is
@GLmig Жыл бұрын
When I pet and grab my cats I start grinding my teeth as to "dissipate" the extra strength that I would like to apply but can't or I would hurt them. Always found that odd, but hey I really want to squease them, they are so cute 🥰

TED just explaining the Filipino word gigil = cuteness overload
@miguelramos38202 жыл бұрын
So you're saying that on Attack on Titan, the Titans were just experiencing extreme cuteness overload from the human they bit down.

i wonder, can this conclusion be applicable for human to human emotions?. like couples biting each other's arm randomly
@enadegheeghaghe63692 жыл бұрын
Errr if you are talking about adults who are couples then that might be a different topic entirely. LOL

I never knew people wanted to bite cute things. This has never crossed my mind.

I find it extremely disturbing actually.
@Yes_Anastasia Жыл бұрын
@@Mantras-and-Mystics nah. It has absolutely nothing to do with “harming” the cute thing. It’s not disturbing or violent. If you don’t get it, you can’t understand it.

I have three cats and am constantly yelling “SHE’S SO CUTE! I WANT TO SQUEEZE HER!” In reference to a cat. I always have this reaction with plushies and other things. My brother said something like “see, this is why you don’t have a boyfriend. Because if you did you would just want to squish his cheeks” to which I replied “yes I would!” 😂 I get overwhelmed pretty easily, so it makes sense that I’m constantly getting cute aggression.

In our language, this feeling is called "gigil" (the feeling) or "nanggigigil" (the act of feeling).

My parents think it's so weird I always tell my dog "YOU ARE SO CUTE I JUST WANNA SMASH YOU" I am glad to know I am not alone. I would never ever smash him. He is precious. I pat him gently on the head and give him treats.
@mdust8409 Жыл бұрын
fr, I always tell my dog "AHHHHHH, you're so cute you make me ANGRYY" and my mom finds it funny and weird. It's just that the cuteness of my dog makes me feel aggresive in the way of wanting to hug her as hard as I could but I would never do that. She is so precious to me
