I really like how you show the enemy birds (invasive alien species) such as Starlings and House Sparrows being shot and at the same time educate about our native song birds that should never be harmed but defended. This helps to teach others would should be shot and what should be protected. Great shots and great job!

i was fishing at a park once (red winged black birds are abundant there) and i cast along the shoreline where one blackbird happened to be sitting and my lure smacked him and he got tangled up in my line. he made some blood-curlding noise then began screeching and all of the other black birds (and a few grackles) started circling me and screeching at me until the first bird managed to jump out of my line... i was legitimately terrified

I asked my Ornithology Lab professor once, after mentioning how much he hates seeing European starlings in the U.S., what his feelings were on cow birds. He said (non verbatim), "actually, as aggravating as their behavior tends to be for us, with our own ideas of what is or isn't ethical, I think that we tend to be a bit unfair towards the cowbird. There's a theory out there, which I tend to view as likely, that the cowbirds migrated with the bison, so they wouldn't have always had time to raise their own young. The bison aren't making mass migrations across the Great Plaines anymore, but we ARE left with lots of edge habitat from habitat destruction and fragmentation; and edge habitat is mostly where they target nests." This is my favorite on your channel so far. Thank you. Please do more like this one. It makes me want to get a scope cam and make some of my own.
@nmarbletoe82106 жыл бұрын
cool story about the cowbird. i tend to agree, as it is a native species, that it shouldn't be on the target list. If cowbirds are a problem for an endangered species, then it would be ok to kill them locally, as they do for the Kirtland's Warbler. Cowbirds are also protected by law, as are basically all birds except starlings, house sparrows, and pigeons. (game birds are protected by game laws, most others by the migratory bird treaty act). I appreciate that Ted here doesn't shoot any cowbirds, even tho he says he wants to, the bird he shot next was a starling.

You are bringing back memories, Daisy, Benjamin pump, Beeman, my Hi Score break barrel pistol.....32$, (my favorite). Killer videos sir, dude. I'd like to tell you about the massive rat I popped that was so big our dog wasn't eating its food and gettin skinny. Bones showing. The rat was eating the dogs food. Dog was afraid of it. I was 17. 59 now. I sat in the corner for 2 hours, gun trained on the dog dish. 177 cal. That English rifle sure was worth the extra money. It was like a freight train went thru it. I'll never forget that day. Brian

Hunters often make the best conservationists since they have a better understanding of habits and behaviour. This was a great nature video on its own. I use an air rifle to control pests on my home in California. Since I live in the city I use a Gamo Whisper (low power, subsonic) and I own everything within 30 yards. Your Matador drills things at 2-3 times the distance. Another toy for the list Keep em coming!

I love birds. The joy of watching birds is enhanced by the knowledge of and discrimination of beneficial birds, songbirds, from invasive species and pests that I refer to as target birds. I subscribed to your channel because I have been an air gun bird watcher for 20 years. I use a Beeman RX (Theoben gas ram) in 5mm with Burris 4-12X mini at 900 fps with Crossman Premier heavies. Your videos are great. We will never make a dent in these pests, but whacking a cowbird helps a bluebird make it.

Cant find the articles. Was either NPR or CornelI. I did find this blurb on wiki while searching for the articles though: "According to a study by the Florida Museum of Natural History published in 1983, the cowbird returned to ransack the nests of a range of host species 56% of the time when their egg was removed. In addition, the cowbird also destroyed nests in a type of "farming behavior" to force the hosts to build new ones. The cowbirds then laid their eggs in the new nests 85% of the time"

Awesome videos! It is nice to know there are more of us. Hats off to your shooting as well, you defiantly are dialed in. . I downloaded some audio of Starlings and put it in my CD player and roll down my windows, crank it up and you know the rest. I will try and get a pic of what my .204 Ruger does to them, there is a poof of feathers and their feet are still clamped to whatever they were peached on. Damn near every time, it is great. Great job, keep up the good work! DHC

I am just getting into this whole air rifle thing, and I bought a .177 Gamo silent stalker whisper and its nice and my first air rifle. But I like bird hunting and small game hunting more than target shooting. I wan't something with more punch but equal velocity and accuracy. I was thinking of returning my gun and getting a .22 . Which is the best .22 that meet these requirements? Or should I stay with the .177?

Did you know studies have recently found that the brown headed cowbirds often go back and check on the progress of their laid eggs or chicks. The same study also found that they will destroy the host birds nest and eggs if they see the host bird has discovered and discarded their cowbird egg.
