Really jealous of how the Civic Si just seems like a nice place to be. My Fiesta ST is pretty claustrophobic and, after 35,000 miles, it's starting to show its supercheap supermini roots. Everyone is hyper-focused on what the Civic Si doesn't have, but it has so much going for it for the price. The value is really there.
@jameswillard12 жыл бұрын
That was my problem with the FiST too. I had one new a few years ago and at 6,500 miles I didn’t have a great feeling in terms of long term rigidity. That being said it was one of the most fun cars to drive in anger that I’ve ever driven. The Civic Type R I purchased after had a bank vault feel in comparison.
@justinwieduwilt5420 Жыл бұрын
I’m really trying to find something to make me want to get out of my FiST… but I love the small size and claustrophobic-nature of it!!! And the handling feeling that comes with it. I lucked into finding a new SI at a no markup, MSRP only dealership near me (I was there to look at a used car but they had just gotten the SI that day and somehow no one had reserved it), and I wanted sooo bad to like it, knowing that many people would love to be able to get one at sticker, so I started the deal, worked out the terms, then backed out… because I realized I wouldn’t have been as excited/happy to get into it everyday as I am with my FiST. Yea, the interior in the SI is probably it’s best feature, and everything looks great and is laid out in a driver friendly way. And Just from the test drive i could see the gas mileage would be great on my commute. And I liked that It felt like a bit of a throwback in the sense of there isn’t a lot of unnecessary features and a lot of drive modes to pick from, both of which are also features I enjoy in the FiST (It’s just such a pure drivers car, no unnecessary safety features that enthusiasts don’t really want, no gimmicky drive modes) But to me the exterior styling of the SI is meh (I really dislike sedans though), and the engine felt less eager than the fist. Ultimately, since my Fiesta is paid off, I realized if/when I’m going to take on a payment, I want get at least a bit of a performance upgrade, which the SI simply didn’t feel like. And I realized I don’t want to be taking myself into a liking a car because it gets great gas mileage, which is basically what I was doing. Also, I test drove the SI immediately after test driving an Elantra N, and the Elantra N absolutely blows the Civic SI away…. It’s not even close tbh. I can’t believe people are actually paying more for the SI than the Elantra N after mark-ups… I walked away thinking the SI wasn’t worth a penny more than MSRP while the Elantra N could very easily be priced higher than it is and still be compelling Also, my FiST is at 80k and still going strong. I’m having some hvac issues (blend door actuators, common in the FiST) and an intermittent CEL issue with an EVAP code, but the drivetrain feels like it could go another 80k, and the interior has held up surprisingly well.

I finally got my 2023 Si I love it and I was able to get it at MSRP! Corporate owned dealerships are not allowed to mark up from MSRP.

I had a 2007 Civic Si when it came out, I ended up swapping a K24 from a TSX and a supercharger into it because it felt so slow. After about 2014 I had "outgrown'" the car and sold it for an F150. I do wish I had not outgrown a Civic Si because I really like the way they look now.

I really enjoyed your review; informative & engaging .Coming from the uk, I’ve been driving manuals for nearly 40 years & as you know the 11 gen civic is hybrid only here bar the type R which sadly I can’t afford!. So, I guess I’m going to have to live with the change when I get mine. Still can’t wait, mind!Thanks again & enjoy your new hot hatch!

In 1985 I bought the 1985 Toyota Supra and it ran like brand new after 130K miles. The only parts the Supra needed replacement were a timing belt, 6 plugs, air filters, oil changes etc. the Toyota Supra didn’t need brake pads, clutch, alignment, shocks, struts at 130K. The 1985 Honda Prelude was the runner up.

can you give me an update on how thats been? i have very little experience driving a manual and also want this to be my first manual. how long did it take for you to learn?

@ so far it was a nice my buddy was teaching me in his stick car however he lost the key so training is on hold. Its not difficult if you’re a fast learner it just takes practice like any other new training.

Have the same car, is excellent, has high performance tires, crazy grip!!! Gripes: not nearly enough storage space in front cabin, center armrest way too low, and the materials, nice as they are, do nothing but accumulate body oil; the drivers door handle has become white, just from pulling the door closed. Even in this video, you can see the white accumulation on the interior door handle. Also, it’s really annoying that the Canadian version has so many useful features (for the same price) that the federal cars don’t have. It’s like we’re subsidizing their cars… Maybe will get the integra version of the type R, which will have some things the R don’t have, like sunroof, more reasonable seats, and the same power.

This car is even more appealing in warmer climates where you do NOT need heated anything. I WANT ONE! (Just not in this "color" - it's a shade not a color).

If anything i wish it had ventilated seats. I live in Arizona so heated seats are definitely not necessary 😅

I wish they didnt discontinue the coupe version. The grey does look really nice, much better than I ever imagined it to be though my favorite color on the civic is their Aegean blue

Once the US version gets the shift lights, heated seats, full digital display etc. I’ll buy it. I refuse to buy it without. I’m pissed they offer us the bare bones car.

Ted I agree with everything you have said about your SI. Every time I get in mine I’m happy with my purchase I really enjoy getting in my car everyday. The gas mileage is awesome. Although I do a lot of city driving I’m still averaging 31mpg and I drive pretty respectably. Half the time I drive like a grandma and half the time I get on it a little. Even though it’s not fast it’s fun to drive and it’s quick enough for me to have fun while driving. It’s everything I wanted in a car that made sense. The car is practical and economical. If your looking to mod these cars I would stay with just a few bolt ons. These L15 engines aren’t built for a lot of power. You can see with the last generation once you get past 250tq/hp the clutch will go and rods blow through the block. But like I said the way the car is now I love it. If you looking for something faster maybe get a 2.0l To get a little more power out of them. I would recommend getting one of these cars for a little bit of rhe more mature audience. Still if your young and can afford it and are looking for something practical, get it.

I really don't love the fact that a 2017 Si was only 24000 brand new. So the price has increased by over 6 grand in 6 years. I don't love the fact the even base level enthusiast cars are slipping into the mid level price segment.

I waited OVER a year to get my 2022 Si in Blazing Orange Pearl end of Oct 2022, I did pay $2K over MSRP with MINIMAL dealer added accessories / add-ons $2,340. Here in CA that is pretty much unheard of especially with the Orange color, very hard to find alone. I traveled far about 170 miles to buy it. Most in my area are still going for $5K to $7.5K over MSRP plus as much with dealer added accessories. I love the color and happens to be that only on 11th Gen Civic Si when the car was teased back in 2021. I do love the car, huge jump going from a 15 year old Civic Si. I do still have a soft spot for my 8th Gen 2007 Civic Si Sdn (stock) with 265K I bought new, still love the car, keeping. I feel that the drive is more "engaged" with shifting with engine/transmission with the 2.0 engine, compared to the newer 1.5 Turbo. Tell me though. What is your feel about "waiting" for Honda Maintenance Minder to tell you to change the oil at 15% which I presume is WELL over 5K miles on the 2022 Si. I am planning instead to do oil changes with GF6 Full Synthetic oil at 5K especially with the smaller engine and the 1.5 Turbo, rather than wait for the 15% oil life. Then wait to reset the maintenance minder to tell me what else is due. As I want the car to last.
@pfunkle2 жыл бұрын
I think it's a good idea to go with your gut and do your oil changes on your own schedule. The manual for my Honda says every 3250 for "severe conditions" which really only means a lot of stop and go traffic / idling / hot temps. The maintenance minder is easy to reset. My partner's Honda (which I don't monitor as closely) got to almost 8k miles since last oil change before its maintenance minder turned on.

Thanks for the video, I'm considering an SI for daily use as I want something with good MPG but not something that's completely boring to drive and it seems like the SI covers that pretty well.

The only thing that kills me about the Si is the lack of a liftback which is why I hope to jump on the Integra next year. It's just about exactly what I want, something a little sporty with good mileage, a 10/10 sound system, and a liftback.

The new civic interior is probably the classiest affordable interior on the market today. I do wish that it integrated the infotainment console similar to the 2024 VW Jetta's. Otherwise, beautiful looking interior.
