Indeed..from my very first 68 beetle..no regrets there..the only ones I ended up regretting: a Chevy Blazer, the only American car we ever owned..back in 74..thru corporate deal thinking would be cool yet was junk that sucked gas..one we stepped back from and regret: a vintage jag about the same time..would have sucked money but been fun..our lesson: don’t buy anything restored or tuned by anyone else..know the provenance..

Even if this is a impulse buy... the later 3.2 (with the G50 gearbox) are some of the strongest , most wanted , best build , one of the toughest mechanical 911's produced . So , your friend and your conscious have brought you a great car . Enjoy it , drive it , use it.

Honestly I would not be so emotionally attached to my e46, had my ex gf not spent so much time in it with me. Every time I get in, I can remember her sitting there. Little overboard, but I can’t see myself ever getting rid of it.
@smallpants4 жыл бұрын
Happened to me with a new A3 which is no longer with me. You have to kinda remind yourself that this is your car. Not sure if you buying yours predates your relationship though.
@EM-cc6gi4 жыл бұрын
JP Cantalino it definitely predated the relationship. essentially it hits home with me because back when it was broken down with a destroyed axle, she told me I would never be able to fix it. Week after we broke up, that same car was back on the road. I respect the shit out of that woman🤣

I absolutely love this channel man. What a relatable, relaxing theme in all of these videos. Cars that normal people can afford, drives that we can appreciate, and commentary which is both calming and informational. Im so tired of all the Vehicle Virgins bullshit and Street Speed 717 content... they are ruining the car culture on KZbin, but you sir are reviving it all. Cheers from NJ.

These are the reason we buy to cars to enjoy emotional points in our lives. Sorry to hear about your loss. I bought my Porsche 996 a month after my Grandmother died. She knew of my love of cars and since I've bought it I have made numerous friends through the Porsche social scene, so I think she would have approved.

Great story man.. I'm picking up my 3.2 Carerra tomorrow, black & black with whale tail like yours. Price is crazy on these cars these days, 3 guys tried to offer 5k+ more after I made the deal, fortunately the seller kept his word with me. To me 911s of 80's are the best looking 911s of all generations, and I'm very excited to bring it home tomorrow.

I'm a used car dealer so a lot of cars I buy I can't do PPIs on. I can drive some but not all either. I actually bought THE cheapest C7 Corvette under 100k with a clean title in 2018. It was rougher than a sandpaper condom, but I got it for $25,000. 2014 Z51 3LT with 30k miles. I needed to get wheels+tires, replace the carbon fiber fender, the bumper, and two magnetic ride control rocks. It drove phenomenal, it looked the money and cleaned up great. I paint corrected the black paint and ceramic coated it. I ended up selling it about a year later JUST before the C8 stuff came out at the SAME auction I bought it from for $36k.

I took a 1 way ticket to Detroit, along with my gf, in the middle of winter to inspect and buy a 2zz swapped MR2 Spyder. We drove it straight home to South Florida right after a terrible inspection in the middle of the night. It took us more or less 24 hours. It's still my HPDE track car. =) I just watched your video on quitting your job and then this one. I appreciate how open you are on this channel, it's refreshing. Your story telling is great. This is years later and I'm definitely late to the story, but your story hit absolutely hard. I lost my best friend about a year later than that and in a very similar fashion. We both had Celica GT-Fours; I had the earlier and near-stock ST165 and he had a decently modified later model ST185. After he passed(followed by a very bad breakup almost immediately afterward) I kinda lost it. I ended up going through a series of buying and selling cars like they were nothing. Models that people would consider once in a lifetime finds I picked up and sold months later for the next thing. I had two AE86s, a MK3 Supra, and an SW20 MR2 Turbo briefly and went through daily drivers like clockwork, but the cars I didn't sell were the '84 Toyota pickup I inherited from my grandfather and my Celica. My friend made me promise I'd never let it go, and I wouldn't dream of it. Even after it threw a $10K repair bill at me(discovered some massive previous owner jank that culminated in a restoration shop having to rebuild the firewall) I toughed through it and kept it. It was a crazy time, but I appreciate the experiences I had along the way.

PPI was definitely something I should of done. First car was a 1991 525i BMW that I bought at a trailer park. My mind was hooked and I had to have it. Polished it, new alternator and it was running beautifully. Half a year it just started falling apart month after month. It's parked for now.

I think there's nothing wrong going with your gut buying a car if it's just a "fun" car, not a daily driver. If it looks right, feels right, and fits the purpose you're trying to fulfill that's the most important thing (as long as you can afford it and there's nothing obviously wrong with it). After all, enthusiast cars are primarily emotional purchases.

Not everything in life is completely 100% rational - we’re humans, not computers or robots. Cars are emotional endeavors to people like us, even if you grew up watching unhealthy amounts of Alex on Autos (yes, I was a very very strange child). Appreciate that you followed your heart, even if there might have been some smart things to do prior to buying. I’d have just as hard a time passing up a good 911 as you did, especially since I was into 996’s too. Love all the Outlaw content. It really is a beautiful car. Also, respect the birds🐤

I would personally rather have an emotional connection to a car and 5-10k post-purchase maintenance bill vs a car that I have no emotional connection to that may cost a bit less initially. I never end up keeping cars that I don't have a connection with very long so, in the long run, those cars actually end up costing me more. If there isn't a bit of emotion involved when buying something like an aircooled 911, you are doing it wrong :)
