The first start and drive of my Air Cooled 3.2L Carrera this Spring! Let's roll it out of the garage, fuel up, and take it for it a short rip to make sure its functioning alright and we haven't developed any new leaks of problems.

for the 50th anniversary of the 911 i saw a german tv show (on a franco-german tv channel so translated in french) where they shown an old german lady who said : "i bought it in the firsts years of production and i use it sometimes" when she went in her garage where an old 911 2.0 was resting. The old lady (once in the car, driving on snow) said : "i don't drive it fast and i maintain it without exaggeration...just the bare necessities" and the cameraman zoomed to the tacho which displayed 200'000 miles and the car seemed to drive like a charm

That's a nice story about how you got the car because of your friend. I lost one of my closest friends to cancer before I got a car myself, we went to various events and stuff before but we didn't get the chance to go on any drives together. He was the main person I shared a passion for cars with so a big part of me has just been missing since. My other friends just aren't into cars as much or at all. Plus I barely get to see them because of their jobs and because of the pandemic over the last year, it's been especially shitty here in the UK

Very few people talk about the sounds in these cars aside the from the music of the engine and exhaust but it's absolutely true. It's part of the character and allure and in some ways tunes in your senses like riding an old rollercoaster. Very cool story about the car and connection to someone who was dear to you. Looking forward to seeing more vids, glad to have stumbled across this channel! BTW I (daily) drive a 80SC 3.0 that was in my family since new and I would never get rid it it either.

69-71 911T and ofc Whale Tail 911s have been my dream car since the third grade. Spent my life so far deep in the car world, yet I continue after that time to gravitate back to vintage 911s. All of my cars so far have been at least some what 911 related. First car was a 1986 Mercedes 300e. Poorly maintained 1000$ car, but dang I had a lot of memories with it and 60 felt just like a 100. My current car is a 1984 Volvo 245 Turbo with a four speed. Spent thousands in maintaining it and bringing up to snuff. Loads of fun. Next car is lining up to be a vintage Beetle. Anyhow TLDR version is that I love cars and after years still have my mind set on a 911.

This car is awesome, Love the binaural audio!! I live in Massachusetts and had a 1989 with 52k and loved that car. The best part was listening to the cold start idle and driving it to warm up, the sound was incredible. After warm up, I would push the rpm to 5500-6000 and the engine would sing like nothing you ever heard. I wish I could have held on to that car. too expensive now!! Keep posting these great videos!!

the beauty of an old car that not all people understand. nursing them and making sure they feel good is a big part. being soft on thhe gearbox, making sure the motor is warm. They are incredibly charmful and rewarding in ways modern cars simply cant capture, the looks, the engaging drive and the mechanical noises. I drive a '96 alfa romeo 164 3L v6 24v super and I wouldnt trade it for a modern car if someone paid me. condolences for your lost friend, I know what depression can do and those dark days are devastating. the emotional bond you will build with your car might be more valuable than the machine itself. Its great to see that you cherish his memory with the car.

First drives after the winter are always a good mix of stress from worrying about potential issues, and pure joy of finally driving your loved car again. I know it's not in the same league but I feel the same whenever I drive my '96 BMW E36 328i convertible for the first time after the winter. It's also really tight and jerky and weird when cold, but once it warms up, it brings joy. The first drive for me was yesterday. No issues this year. Good times man. There is one of these in my nieghborhood, and back when I had my B5S4 running, I used to love going out for a drive, because it seemed like the owner of the porsche often had the same idea lol. My S4 was Stage 2+, basically everything that could be done to it on stock turbos, plus upgraded intercoolers and brakes. Never dyno'd, but many builds just like it often made or broke 300awhp.. Me and that porsche used to have so much fun chasing each other on the backgrounds and on the parkway. The first time I ran into him, I was doing a pull onto the mid-day parkway, so no one was on it basically, and Im coming from the on ramp which was a full clover 180degree corner, shoots you straight onto a ridiculous straight section. Made for pulls. I pull onto the parkway at the top of 2nd and continue through 3rd and into 4th. Smiling like a child. I hit my desired number, start to slow down, and here comes mister 911 cruising by me. Well, you better believe I downshifted to 3rd and went and caught up haha. We spent probably and hour going from exit to exit, and then dipping onto the backgrounds together. Nothing insane, just some good fun, pushing it a little bit, basically the ideal level I would want to push it when Im driving with another car that idk. We absolutely raced each other on the parkway once, but usually we would just run into one and other while out, and then mob some backroads together before one of us had to go do whatever we had to do. Tons of fun. Ive wanted one ever since. This video makes that even more true.

I had a chance to buy a light blue one of these that only saw daylight on a bright sunny dayfor 13,000 usd back in 1985/6. I had a Toyota Supra but totalled it three months after I bought it. I needed a 4 seater vehicle for work and so I had to pass up the 911. It was owned by a local grocery store owner and we were gym buddies at his gym at his gorgeous home and he was good friends of my mothers youngest brother that was many years younger than my mother. I had graduated high school in 1981 so I was in my early 20's at that time. Was a beautiful sports car and could have been mine but I ended up buying another Celica Supra and kept it till 1996 so had it ten years. God Bless

Your comment about heel toe is exactly why the break is so far offset from the gas... I’ve tracked a 993 and done some pca racing and love the heel toe of these old porsches on the track... yes on the road they aren’t ideal but for the track they are perfect... And your story about your friend hit home with me... I have a ‘77 (it might be a 78 lol) euro spec 911. (911 SC before they were imported to America). I have the car because I inherited if from my dad who passed two years ago on the Sunday off Memorial Day weekend. He was a lifetime racer and Porsche guy.... his first couple Porsche race cars were home built and later on was able to afford to get into gt3 cup cars. Any ways I lost my dad in the spring and have a Porsche to remember him just like you loosing your friend and your Porsche to remember him. The Monaco/ Indy 500 weekend will never be the same for me, I had planned on spending the day with him watching those events from the hospital as he was to come home that Memorial Day for hospice.... I got the phone call early that Sunday morning. Anyways the ‘77 is in decent shape but needs some break and suspension work to be road worthy, I start it up and run it in the driveway or a quick turn around the block just to get it warmed up every so often... the paint is kinda rough but I think it’s mostly the clear coat. She’s Brown with black trim and a big mean whale tail just like yours. Someday I’ll be able to do the necessary work to really drive it!

Definitely makes me appreciate the car even more now. And I feel like I should say it's important to keep tabs on our friends and family, making sure they're actually doing ok. Similar to these old cars where you have to take them out of storage and make sure everything's running ok.

I've been in love with the 911 since about the age of five! I was also lucky enough as a young man to ne able to buy, own, and drive a brand spanking new '86 Targa, in Guards Red, black gut. What a beautiful driving car. All of about 200 h.p., but is plenty to boogie as fast as I care ro go on public roads. All of this 707 h.p. Hellcat, and mega power supercar stuff is fine, but I've driven all manner of high powered automobiles and bikes, and srill haven't run into a sports car that could make such good use of moderate power like my 911. Awesome cars, and built like a bank vault. Go ahead, knock on the front fender, or rear quarter, ans tell me that there is any modern car that is as solid as an air cooled 911 is! Effing awesome pieces of machinery.

My first Tedward video and I liked it. You speak the thoughts in your mind which can sometimes be irritating but your thoughts are good to hear which could explain why you have so many subscribers. Your Carrera is lovely. Back in 1980, a friend of mine asked me to find him a Porsche 911 and I found him a fabulous 1973 911 RS which he loved. I did some work on it for him and had the pleasure of driving it so I know what you mean about those noises! I was quite touched by the mention you made of your dear friend. Anyway, you've got a new subscriber now. Keep it up.

My second car was a dog of a 1994 Camry 4 cylinder. I'm an automotive hypochondriac, I clicked into my car on my first drive. I went nuts driving it for 5 or 6 years. I traded a 1998 f150 single cab step side with a 4.6 V8, I loved that truck but I couldn't afford the gas prices.

Hey man, this is the first video I've seen from your channel but I'm definitely subscribing after seeing this. Also, the noise from that 3.2 boxer sounds absolutely wonderful, that's a stunning car you've got. Porsche have always been one of - if not, my favourite car brand since I first saw a Cayman S in person as a kid in 2006, immediately fell in love with these stunning machines.

About the rotated gauges: my understanding is that that was sometimes done in racing cars so you could better "read" them without actually looking straight at them, i.e., you'd turn the tach so the redline was straight up, or you'd turn the oil/water temp gauges so that nominal racing temp was straight up.

That's the part I love, the first drive after winter storage. Although I do start them up and let the oil warm-up too. I move the car a few times to stress the tires around, work the clutch and brakes a little. And then I remember everything I've been gathering parts for the last few months ahah

If I had a heated garage I might consider starting it and moving it, but once its below 40F I don't start it. This oil is THICK

@@TedwardDrives you're right, my storage is the basement of a building, even if it's not heated it's always between 50 and 60 degrees all year so it's perfectly fine. That's also why I let the oil warm-up so that it doesn't get contaminated with water (even more on e85 in the e28)

A friend had an '87 911 Targa but only for a short while. I rode in it once. Classic sounding motor. But he looped it twice at Carolina Motorsport Park one weekend (common thing for 911s at the kink) and sold it for a front engine sports car. He currently owns a WRX.

If you don't, bounce sheets are great to put in your cabin, frunk and engine compartment. I've been storing my car in an old barn for about 8 years now and have never had any mice problems! And.... its great to have the cars out! Best time of the year. It's like the cars get a good mechanical stretch on day 1.

I just bought a battery tender with my stimmy. I drive my sports car year around but two years in a row I have had a mechanical issue that took me several months to get around to fixing and I killed my battery for good because I parked it for so long. My hydraulic lifters really makes some racket on that first start up. Lol. Your car is great man. What a ride.

the 911 is the poor man's 928. the 928 won two Bonneville Salt Flats fasted production land car (1986 and 2020). the 928 is the only sports car to win European Car of the Year. the 928 is the biggest bang for the buck in exotic sports/poster cars as well as the entire Porsche classic car line up.
