Never understood the why everyone is blocking the left lane for no reason in the US... Where are you supposed to pass then? On the inside? That creates a far more dangerous driving environment.
@jackk215 ай бұрын
You are correct, there are laws that say slower traffic needs to stay to the right. However a very small portion of drivers actually follow this and police do not enforce it for some reason. So we are left with a shit show on highways where the whole road is clogged with people going the same speed. Extremely frustrating but 95% have no idea and are completely oblivious to the half mile of cars behind them.

Man, that assessment about relaxed driving versus aggressive driving is so spot on. Whenever I’m driving on the faster side, I tend to find myself in situations where someone’s in my way, or they’re not driving fast enough or I’m blocked in behind drivers going the same speed. And I’m more irritated about how people tend to drive. But on the other hand when I’m with my family and I’m in no rush, I find myself not getting into those same situations and I see other people flying down the highway, seemingly road raging with other drivers or cutting across lanes to pass people. It’s a major difference when you’re not in the rat race 😅

The fuel economy of the 460 is pretty great when its driven properly. Like you mentioned, coasting to slow down, looking ahead, keeping speed in check. Over 20 highway is never an issue for me. I thought I had an alignment issue as well, but had it aligned and still usually need to add some steering input. Good too see I'm not alone there. I do have some additional vibration in the steering but next thing is probably a tire balance.
@porschephilosopher45435 ай бұрын
Yeah, I had mine aligned 3 times within the first 1500 miles of ownership (23' GX Luxury bought in January of 24 new). The alignment is a lot better now after we had the dealership double check it and have the senior mechanic drive the car. But it's still not perfect and I've come to the conclusion that some amount of steering correction is just necessary.

After I got some miles on the tires and properly inflated them it was neutral, still sensitive to the curvature of the road surface as you say. 4:38 This is the key reason why I'm seriously considering a GX. At the moment, I daily drive an ATS-V in the rural midwest. My commute is absolutely full of giant potholes, construction zones with giant bumps, etc. My poor magnetic ride struts are destroyed from it, and I'm tired of getting beat up in an otherwise comfortable car. I just want something that's stupid smooth. I'm old enough now, also, that the 500whp the ATS-V puts down with a tune is just ridiculous anywhere but a track, and I'm rarely driving it on a track. I have been considering something like an accord or a Jetta GLI, but the roads here are so terrible I'm not sure it'll be hugely better. Now the debate is whether I want a GX470 or GX460.

So interesting hearing the same startup chime I hear almost every day in one of your videos lol. The new GX is pretty darned cool, but I gotta say, I'd have a hard time getting it over this one. The V-8, the no-nonsense interior, the freakin' analog gauges - it's just what I want. 🥰
@ARentz075 ай бұрын
The whole oil change thing is so true. On my IS 500, I also have a 5,000 mile interval. The 2UR-GSE engine is weird though, and the dealership is most likely going to use a synthetic blend oil. So, I bring my own synthetic 5W-30 oil because I want to be able to drive it like I want and not worry about the oil life. I'm still doing 5,000-mile changes, though! But yeah, I had the same thing happen when I did my first oil change early to get the break-in crap out of there. "Well, technically you don't need to do this until 5,000 miles..." And on the wife's BMW, same thing. I'm sorry, I just don't buy it. 10,000 miles on the same oil with a boosted engine, driven by my lead-foot wife? No thank you. I will do 5,000.

I have driven a lot of GX460's and they all pull in one direction or the other. So, me being the person I am I've done lots of research on this. The tracking issue you're experiencing has to do with suspension geometry, primarily kingpin offset or what they call "scrub radius" which is the distance from the steering axis to the center of the tire. To reduce the kingpin offset the lower control arms in the new GX550 are quite a bit longer than the GX460's. This makes the new GX track more on center than the old GX, it also reduces kickback in the steering. The longer lower control arms also create a more stable "on center feel" and increases the strength of the "return to center" characteristic while eliminating the pulling to one side or the other with the crown of the road. The reason I went so deep into this is because I have a 200 series Land Cruiser and my dad has a GX460 that I drove 3000 miles about a year ago. My Land Cruiser consistently stays dead center no matter what lane I'm in, eventually it drifts a little but all cars do. The GX felt like if I was in the left lane it was constantly pulling to the left, if I was in the right lane it was constantly pulling to the right which made my 3000 miles tiring. The road had to be completely flat for it to track straight. I actually stopped to get the alignment inspected because I thought something was wrong, but they just confirmed everything was in specification. During my research this also led me to discover my Land Cruiser has longer lower control arms and the Tundra has even longer ones. Land Cruiser drivers have actually swapped control arms in favor of the Tundra control arms to give more suspension travel if they have lifted their Land Cruiser.

@ericmeils83343 ай бұрын
@@michaelllewellyn4441 I'm really not sure about the 4Runner. The fix would be changing the lower control arms and supporting hardware to adjust the kingpin offset. I'm sure there is something on the GX 4Runner forums about this. Hope that helps, and good luck!

As far as fuel economy goes with trucks a lot of people are stuck in 2005, thinking they all get 10pmg. My 10 year old Denali with a 6.2 V8 will get 18 in the city and easily over 20 on the highway. On a 2 lane 55-65mph backroad I can get 24-26. I don't understand these new super complex V6 powertrains that get marginally better fuel economy. High risk for low reward.

I noticed that pull to the left with my 23 wrx and figured it was the road too along with the fast rack. I drove it for about 9 months that way and finally got a bug up my ass to get it checked. Subaru did an alignment at no charge to me and did see that it was out. But that first alignment didn't do anything. Regardless of how the road was banked slightly I was always pulling to the right. 2 months later (this last may) I had them check it again (again no charge to me) and they seem to have fixed the issue (measurements showed pretty much the same misalignment). But I do notice now when I did a drive to Taos from Tucson that the pull was now lane dependent like what you experienced. Dose the GX have a fast rack? Are gone the days when you can expect your wheel to be centered on a straight road?
@beerhunt90135 ай бұрын
many vehicles if not most will pull to the right ( in the USA) ESPECIALLY if your in the right hand lane for two reasons; 1) the slope from the center to the right side is from gravity and 2) a safety factor from the manufacturer while in a two lane road for avoiding drifting into oncoming traffic in the other lane.

Ur in a Toyota, u don’t need to do your oil changes in quicker intervals.

What do you think about the lx570? What made you pick the gx460?
@TedwardDrives5 ай бұрын
The lx was too big for my needs and it’s a lottt more expensive

@@TedwardDrives Thank you for the reply! If I wanted that larger vehicle and if we are strictly talking about ride quality, is the lx570 noticeably smoother? I've been torn for a while as you were the reason I started this Lexus journey in the first place and I feel like since theyre both exceptional, it comes down to preference and maybe a slight bump in ride quality? I will mainly be using it as a passenger vehicle and highway cruiser

I would love that SUV for long trips. So comfy!! Just don't show me the bumper with bloody mosquitoes. Nice first impression. /s

Got a 2023 GX 460 with 7K miles, getting it undercoated soon & looking into cheap mods lol
@beerhunt90135 ай бұрын
beneficial mods are ...side rails/steps and skid plates. The lifts and oversized tires increase fuel usage way too much.

Did they actually change the oil. I don't trust the dealers. I do all my oil changes. I only have 30 thousand on my 22 GX and I do them every 5000, but did the first at 3000. The slight drifting is usually more due to the crown on the roadways. Mine has developed a slight vibration that I feel in the seat mostly. Driving me insane. dealer says it's nothing and did a road force balance that didn't help.

the perception of fuel economy is often defined by miles per gallon/liter...it is actually the COST PER MILE driven!

Do you have to use premium or can you get away with regular? Thanks

many GX 460 owners have/are using 87 octane...it is your call.

Do you thnk regardless of mileage on the oil you should do it once a year or does age matter for synthetic?
@chriscoulson53655 ай бұрын
It’s a good idea to change the oil at least once a year regardless of mileage or the type.
@TedwardDrives5 ай бұрын
If we’re being honest You could probably leave it for a couple years and be fine. But once a year is a good way to keep track if you don’t drive enough
