TEDxAmsterdam - Wim Hof is a Dutch world record holder, adventurer and daredevil, commonly nicknamed the Iceman for his ability to withstand extreme coldness. He holds nine world records including a world record for longest ice bath. Wim broke his previous world record by staying for 1 hour 13 minutes and 48 seconds immersed in ice at Guinness World Records 2008. Hof describes his ability to withstand extreme cold temperatures as being able to turn his own thermostat up by using his brain.

Unbelievable..the audience is blind..they hear what wim is saying, but they dont know what it means, they see what it means, but they fail to understand the message behind it.This is a prime example of how deep our schizophrenia as a species goes.They literally laugh their human potential away as wim is trying to tell them where the key to unity is. May nature bless our brother wim hof for his relentless, selfless and altruistic work, I'm proud to call you my brother in humanity and share my planet with you, wim. You will be honored one day for the many lives you made better and worth living, bringing your brothers and sisters back together by your act of love for life.Thank you!

People laughing, probably thinking they're so much better than that weirdo... he's just a great genuine man
@RamanSharma89
@RamanSharma89 2 жыл бұрын
I don't think they are laughing to make fun of him but rather to make an awkward situation feel "not awkward". It's a simple way to tell the other that we're not bothered and it's okay. Imagine all of them sitting there in silence and watching him and others struggle to get him out of that box, making him feel more awkwardness of the situation.

It's just same everywhere. Wim is practice guy he do things and have his own experiences that was proven even by science today. People don't like that because they like illusions and stories not a reality. If somebody tell them it's a fake or some kind of cheat they would believe that because it's better for them to believe then actually sit on their asses for a 10 minutes a day and try it for themselves that's all it takes. Peoples instead of doing something choose to believe and those believes are just pure illusions that are controlling their life's. Wim methods works, i do practice them every day and from a guy that was sick every month is now a guy who didn't see doctor for 2 years. I'm glad for that.

It is only language. Never feel sorry. Danes speak both English and Danish. At a heightened adrenal state bilingual people need to stop, focus and transmute energy into language. There's no 'breakthough', they still have no idea how wim says warm and have learned nothing from it. Wim himself is pretty much a hippy who has no scientific understanding of how his body can resist the cold, and the spectacle of putting him in ice on stage for only a few minutes, WITHOUT monitoring his temperature, was purely spectacle. +crcaccounts Same page. Sometime in late 2009 I stumbled upon the Joe Show and started listening with interest because it was the first time I'd heard anyone talking without pretense or an agenda. Didn't even know what a podcast was then, just clicked on some shit and got to Joe and Redban. Back then they sat on a sofa with a sign behind them that read, "make me hard". Sometimes they would wear big watches and Joe always wore long sleeves because I think he was a little self conscious of his tattoos then or how they would come across to the audience. A couple of times they wore goofy costumes and experimented with hats. Joe also talked down much more to Redban who was more like a paid flunky or a personal assistant and hadn't come into his own yet as a podfather. I left a long comment after JRE#1 and nobody ever responded to it but I still kept listening to this very day and told everyone I knew to listen because this was something important. I've watched the show evolve from a buddy chat into what I think history will paint as some of the most inspiring, important interviews with the greatest people of our time. However, I don't need to listen to many of the comedians , porn stars or musicians because I'm not getting information that can change my situation immediately, today for the better. With Wim Hof it's different. The truth rang through instantly, I started the breathing exercises, have had 4 cold showers and have ordered the book, Becoming The Iceman, and it will arrive in 3 days because I paid more for shipping than the cost of the book. This is a life changer for me and couldn't have come at a better time.

Wim Hof has come to present at TED to showcase some spectacular findings from his own experience and then aided by the understanding of science, The host towards the end is ridiculously arrogant and his attempts at unnecessarily jest takes the focus off such an amazing discovery regarding the human body and its connection to the mind making it seem as if it is petty and trivial ... essentially mocking wim for being an "extremist". yes the point is to get the results you dont need to get into a 6f box of ice, but definitely enough to get out of your comfort zone and push your boundaries. the 'make fun of wim' humor just makes the audience get back into their comfort zones even more, thus ignoring everything wim has tried to teach.

It should have been presented as a scientific study into how extraordinary this is. They should have talked about how he taught the Wim Hof method to a group to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro in two days wearing only T-shirts and shorts. They should have talked about the entire “Wim Hof Method” and how it works from a scientific perspective while he was in the ice. Could’ve been one of the top Ted Talks if the presentation had presenters had really researched and understood what this man’s abilities truly encompasses.

I see you feel unsatisfied with the interviewer. When I watched the video I enjoyed the lightness and contrast of the subject and humor intertwined. I did not get any negative feelings whatsoever. The interviewer made me laugh yet be engaged and interested in Wim Hof, and put a bit of perspective just by how different they were. Engaging in many ways. I did read a lot of comments, however, most people seem to call the interviewer names. Some wrote, they know he was not feeling respect towards Wim Hof. I did not feel that at all and was surprised to read all the negative notes. I was expecting people to be enthusiastic about the interviewer. Also, we would have to check with him to find out if the interviewer was experiencing respect for Wim Hof, and how Wim himself was experiencing it. I find it rather useless to try and fill in other people's feelings, without asking them. It might very well be that there is a cultural difference. Being dutch, maybe I experience a feeling of disrespect in different situations from, say, people from the United States. It's a shame so many people seem to get distracted by the negative feeling that arrises from the friction, from someone acting or not acting the way they want.

@@TubeUil I totally understand you. I had the exact same feeling. I didn't think Wim took the funny attitude of the interviewer in a bad way either. I feel sad people got this angry reaction. Maybe our views of the world (and ourselves) is what matter most when judging situations like this.

I don’t feel like they are making fun of him at all. Subjecting one’s body to that kind of extreme is not common to the average person, so one would tend to handle it as unobtainable and laugh at the thought, but not in a demeaning way. Wim has, through training himself, amazing mind control. I admire him doing this. I can’t stand to be cold. I wish I had the determination that he does. I love a hot bath, but very cold baths and showers are very healthy to do.

I love his demonstration of the power of the mind / body working together and his ultimate message that we ALL have this ability (@ 14:15). I used his teachings one afternoon when I became overheated while mowing my lawn. Instead of stopping I decided to employ his breathing technique, which put me into a relaxed state and I then directed my mind to cool my core. I was amazed at how quickly I recovered. It works...it's not hocus pocuc and we all have this ability.

It was frustrating to watch that guy talk to Wim Hof like that. Wim... you beautiful beautiful genius. I have learned your ways through trial and error, thanks to you for letting me know it is possible to overcome the negative parts of our environment through training and will.. It was recently -2 degrees Fahrenheit where I live. Using Wims breathing techniques and my own beliefs I was easily able to "endure" the temperature. I say endure sarcastically. I know from first hand experience that you can acclamate your body to the cold through training. I work in a food distribution warehouse and used to work in the freezer (-10 degrees Fahrenheit) all day. Never came close to what Wim Hof can do, but I was able to train myself to disregard the cold to a degree, although there was always some irritation, over time. This happens naturally. To go to the extreme that Wim Hof has gone though, I would imagine, takes superhuman will power.
