What can we do when we are faced with problems that defy easy definition or resolution? I argue that we need to create spaces for people to think together in new ways. By engaging in two complementary modes of thinking - the critical and the creative - Critical Making creates space for us to think together to address the significant problems of our age. Isaac Record is from East Lansing, Michigan, and originally from Windsor, Maine. Isaac trained as a computer engineer as an undergrad, and then I earned my PhD in philosophy of science. He is a professor at Lyman Briggs College, where he is the Founding Director of the Collaborative Experiential Learning Laboratory (CELL). He says that anomaly is the name we give something that doesn't fit our expectations. It's an invitation to learn something new. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

As someone who went to grad school with Isaac and has followed his subsequent career it is fascinating to see his current stuff boiled down like this.
