Narcissists are on the rise, especially in the workforce. While the research is still out on why this is happening; Ann Barnes outlines the different kinds of narcissists, and provides a framework on how to work with them (or not!). Ann began her legal career acting as a lawyer and business advisor for numerous private and publicly held companies. She specialized in corporate securities and intellectual property law within the entertainment and consumer packaged goods industries.
Her parallel passion for health and wellness led her to quit law and found and operate a number of superfood companies. Ann is a well-respected public speaker and health advocate and has written two health based recipe books: “Be a Better Being” and “Eat Super, Be Super”.
Over 6 years ago, Ann’s passion for plant-based wellness and entrepreneurial opportunities resulted in her funding, co-founding and acting as Chairman for the first Canadian licensed Medical Cannabis Company: Peace Naturals Project. A year ago she sold the majority of her interest to the medical cannabis public company.
Her greatest accomplishment is being a Mom to her 2 teens, who keep her on her game at all times. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Isn't it amazing how most have no real idea what narcissism is about? They think its just selfishness or grandiosity. They have no idea how manipulative, dishonest and abusive they are. And even worse, they really don't care (unless, of course, they have had a relationship with a narcissist).

Lies and Infidelity is a very serious issue to deal with and it’s a major threat to most marriages and relationships.Scars left behind from a narcissist husband is hard to erase from the mind. I was reluctant at first about finding the truth about my cheating husband but I’m glad I finally took the courage for it .I got help from Cyber Hack Solutions as he helped clone my cheating husband’s phone and I got access to all his phone call logs, emails, text messages both deleted texts and also social media chats; whatsApp , Facebook, Instagram without having access to his phone because he is mostly out of town due to the nature of his work and I was able to track his location too, all I provided was his phone number to this wonderful hacker. Narcissists like you more when you don’t question them, they prefer to have an upper hand over you. When my husband started getting frequent night calls, I would ask and he would just wave off those calls as unimportant. At a time i could take no more of his lies, I decided l deserve to know what was going on. A friend of mine referred me to this Sage hacker (cyberhackingsage@gmail. com) who helped clone his phone without physically touching it. All I did was send his phone number to this Sage hacker and through a remote link sent to my mail, I was able to access all of his texts, emails, Facebook and Instagram chats, real-time call listening and his long deleted messages as if the phone was physically with me. My husband was a cheating Narcissist and I’m glad i found out all his secrets and infidelity. Perhaps, you are in a similar situation and you need help or you just crave that extra teeny bit of closure, I urge you get in touch with them Via Gmail ( cyberhackingsage@gmail. com) or text and WhatsApp them on +15713758467. I had and have a few narcissists as family members. I can see now how I could have become one. I desire not to. One thing going for me, I never like being in the spotlight. Interestingly enough, I discovered this week that I could tell a story about myself that included my faults, mistakes, etc., and what I learned through the experience. I'm actually more comfortable with that than trying to say how great I am. My nature default is to not talk about myself at all. My narcissistic family members have to tell stories that make them look good. I'm glad to say, that I don't have to do that.

The absolute WORST type of people to manage or employ are narcissists with "High Conflict" personality traits. THOSE ones are the lawsuits waiting to happen. They thrive on conflict & they love litigation. They'll go out of their way, making things 10 times more difficult, even for themselves, in an attempt to gain control, or simply not lose it. I think the best approach is to never openly disagree with them as it's a waste of time. Let them believe they're as powerful as they think they are. If they challenge you on anything just say "yes sir, I'll get on that right away". Nothing more frustrating to a narcissist than you taking them at face value. They know their identity is false and want to torture people by confusing them as they sniff out the difference between the fantasy and the reality. That's where the gaslighting begins. Just let them have the fantasy. Agree between everyone that you'll just humour them. They'll probably leave for lack of supply.

It works! I was the target person for no known reason - all I had to say was one thing and they would jump on me with how wrong I was and the truth was the total opposite of what I said. etc. So I didn't say hello, have conversations, react to comments, no eye contact or interact in any way. It takes some strength , but less strength than being a target constantly. I Just acted like I would if they weren't present. If they started with the putting down comments. I would jus continue with the conversation I was having and talk over them as if they hadn't spoken at all. I developed it as a coping mechanism when I was anxious about having to be around them, without knowing how surprised they would be. I know what you mean about their reaction. It was that or stop seeing the people I wanted to see.

B Smith they disrespect you in private so that you take the bait and disrespect them in public. This is what they want: to destroy your reputation by manipulating you on taking self destructive actions. If you do take the bait, you’ll surely end up looking like the bad and mad person in the whole story. The right way to deal with it? By reversing back their upside down reality, and making a point to greet them and treat them well among those who they are trying to impress at all cost. Usually, those are the same people to whom they are trying to destroy your image, like your boss or close friends, for example. So, pick the people you trust the most and show them by your actions that you respect the narcissists no matter what. This will in effect take all the power from the narcissist back to your hands. He will hate you for it, and he will make his best to also behave good in public. You can take it for granted: narcissists praise their own image above everything else, so they won’t allow anyone, not even themselves, to make them look bad before important people. They will thus treat you the way you always wanted them to do. Just in public, of course, but this way you send them a strong message that you know what they are up to, you know it’s a game and you know how to make them loose if you need so. They will respect you and even be afraid of you. When you finally find out this impression management thing is all they have, it remains nothing anymore for them to use against you. You are then a successful, happy and strong person against narcissists and manipulators.

to my understanding narcissists are innately anti-social and unmanageable. They cause disruption, misery and toxic work environments. In the long run they are bad for business and the well-being of fellow staff. They are also most likely to be the boss. It think it would be more useful to have a talk about how to manage with a narcissistic/sociopathic boss.

a great example of workplace narcs which sounds all too familiar. Sorry to hear you went through that. I think workplace culture and HR is a major reason this happens. Narcs thrive in work environments which do not have a clear value system, other than 'let's make profit', so bullying can become prevalent. If the company's values are about competition and 'dog-eat dog', narc behaviour will sit comfortably within this without seeming problematic. HR can fail to deal with it because they often don't understand about personality disorders or narcissism - even though this is likely to be the cause of most conflicts at work with about 10% of the population, therefore each workplace, having high conflict personalities. HR are answering to organisational leaders who are likely to have modeled the toxic culture the narcs thrive in and are likely to be narc bosses themselves. Plus the company doesn't want any embarrassment, so likely to just suppress and ignore the issue. Therefore the person being bullied by narcs is likely to leave. I have lived this experience myself.

Once you identify narcissist behavior in someone cut them out of your life. There is no in-between, read other's comments. As the victim of a narcissistic boss, navigating the workplace with this type of personality is much harder than presented, and I'm not sure the advice to nurture these people is good advice. My former narcissistic boss has gone unchecked for 5 years with devastating effects in the people and productivity of the department. Narcissists tend to be in leadership positions so when you seek help from management, it goes unheard and unresolved, and in my case the reporting led to being retaliated against. Narcissists in the workplace are lethal. I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around how I should "manage" them when they are so decidedly manipulative.

Narcissistic people.....abuse can slowly kill you. I know......I am living with one now. I have been, for the past 24 years. I met him a couple of months after my father passed. Being orphand by my father after my mother passed when I was 8, I grew up thinking that there was something wrong with me because my father did not want me. With this being said and with hindsight being 20/20 as well as 3 stints locked up in a mental ward on 51/50's plus 4 visits to the Hospital with a BP reading of 221/119+ all because I couldn't find out what was wrong with me, why I was never good enough, why I kept doing everything wrong, why I was always punished with weeks of the silent treatment ( the most recent I'm dealing with now is going on 7 months of silence and stares). Now.....with the help of LCSW....Dr's..... Therapist and Psychologist I'm trying to break free. It hurts..... Is hard.... The reason I endured this for sooooo long was because two days after I left him my then 5 year old daughter and woke up one night crying for her father, it was at that moment when I was transported back to the little girl.... On the steps..... Being left alone on the concrete steps time after time after her father left her. I told myself that no matter what pain I have to endure I will make sure my daughter never cries for her father ever again. Please forgive me for babbling on.

Keeping tab on your husband or Narcissist partner isn't something i'd suggest you dive into, notwithstanding, if you need to clear any doubt concerning what secretly goes on in your relationship, he is quick to accomplish results without fail just like he did the last time when i hired him, so i have to make reference to him. He paid great attention to fact as a legit expert and aided me to catch a cheat and his fee is affordable. Contact (geniustracker) on Whatsapp +1 (724) 330-3252 or you can text/call him on +1 (415)323-6758 and also write to Via Gmail (geniustracker701) thank me later...

Narcissists often lack empathy and have an inflated sense of self-importance, which can lead to a disregard for the feelings and needs of others. They may also manipulate and exploit those around them to fulfill their own desires.

I know more than I want to know about narcissism. my husband was diagnosed with it, but I did not know the full impact of what that meant until...The love of my life, the only man I have ever loved and been married to for 38 years, decided he wanted to date while married. He went online and started dating up a storm without my consent or knowledge. That old Knucklehead does not even "have it like that" in the love department if you know what I mean. Well, to make a long story short and sweet, he moved in with one of the side-chicks in Georgia and I am here in California living my life like it is Golden. Every day, I wake up and I asked myself, "Martha, what wonderful thing will you do for yourself today?" God has let me know I don't have to understand all the foolishness and "carrying on" that happens in this earthly realm. Just keep moving, so I am moving my mind and body to a higher realm of joy. Thank you, Jesus!!!

I think it's really important to learn about how to identify and protect oneself from people with Narcissistic Personality Disorder from people who truly understand them, and have appropriate education in Psychology. This person seems like her background in mostly in business and law. She outlines strategies that are actually just common sense strategies to being a responsible business owner, and it kind of sounds like she is making biased generalizations about Millenials. No impressed with this talk.

Good point; but when 2/3 of an entire generation possesses more narcissistic traits than empathic ones and the incidence of narcissism shows a stable growing trend over decades, things are no longer that simple. It isn't about managing a narcissistic employee; it's about managing a narcissistic _workforce_ ; hence the need of adapting corporate culture.

M.J. I agree. I have had the experience of having a supervisor continually stabbing me in the back to raise herself to godlike level. And the bosses all fell for it. I was the 4th person in that position that she drove away, and they were dumbfounded. She was brilliantly deceitful and they just did not get it, nor did they care enough to investigate it. I also have a sister who is a great deceiver, and when I finally understood narcissism, I finally understood why I always felt so bad when leaving her presence. She is no longer in my life.

The narcissist may have remarkable qualities but they have a fatal flaw : no empathy. Empathy makes us human and humane. An individual who is without compassion /empathy leaves more destruction than construction in their wake. They cause more disconnection than connection, more paralysis than growth. There's a reason it's called "malignant" narcissism.
