In this candid talk, Manisha shares how she discovered the meaning of life when things went down and how she made the worst situation of her life into a narrative of triumph!
Manisha Koirala is well known for her acting prowess and her ethereal looks which easily pull at audience heartstrings. However, what many may not know about this Nepalese beauty is her quiet confidence and graceful strength which have enabled her rise to success in Bollywood and work in critically acclaimed movies with directors such as Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Subhash Ghai and Mani Ratnam. Manisha also had her fair share of ups and downs, but it was the diagnosis of cancer in 2012 which caused her to pause and introspect her life deeply. Perhaps it was this very introspection which gave Manisha new goals and motivated her to rise and shine through trying times.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

I'm half way through this ted talk couldn't resist commenting even before finishing it. Manisha is such an INSPIRATION. She's really warrior when she said she may have had a heart damage and hearing loss I got so scared but look at her now she's fitter than ever. Infact I feel this cancer episode has done more good to her she changed her lifestyle 360 degrees she such an amazing example of the kind of human being I would like to be!

Indira Gandhi.. and so on.. Writing she is Nepali Naari is one more tag to her bravery just that.. afterall it's human victory against deadly cancers.. to be saluted eventually. Thanks for your reminder being human is everything.. Peace and love

Dear Tedx Jaipur , madam manishaji Namaskar. My name is d. Ravindra, 52 years old, from visakhapatnam, and a patient of extensive psoriasis for the past 20 years. It always went from bad to worse. It changed into different forms or so as per a host of doctors. I'm somewhat better now. I'm taking scapho injections which are expensive, as I am a government servant. This disease nor it's medicines are not enlisted, so I can not claim or compensate. There are only two people who didn't hate me with the disease - my oxygen (wife and son). Why I am sharing my story is because i can experience your physical and emotional pain and trauma. I waited for such video's - humble people defeating disease, overcoming the society and living as a winner. Madam manishaji you are a winner. I would like to thank tedx for showcasing wonderful people.

I am your great admirer both as a movie star and as a human being defeating death and bouncing back. I have seen and felt the pain of cancer very closely as my wife succumbed to it and left all of us crying. During her treatment I ran around every place and followed every conventional and non conventional treatments with the hope of saving her which unfortunately did not happen. My wife left for her onward journey but we are still feeling the pain in our hearts. Life turned upside down. Hearing your so brave and inspired speech, I salute you and wish you good health. I don't know how many times I will repeat watching this speech. I made promise to myself that during the rest of my life and to the best of my ability, I will stand with people suffering from cancer and bring a smile on their faces. Counsel families of patients not to go down and loose hope. I don't know yet but may be one day I will offer my life to the service of cancer victims. God bless you.

One thing i personally learn from you that we should not take our health as a granted we must take care of our body and we should nurture it properly. Although we are living in such a era where these things are a little hard to maintain but we should give our best to maintain it then only we can track our path and make the lot things possible means then only we can get the things which we always dream of. Not all pain changes a person for the better. Only when you have a way to end to the pain or win over it, you become a better person. When you cannot, you become a bitter person and even pass it on to others. Pain does change people, of course, ask all the angry and pissed off people you meet in the train or the bus, or the sad people who have given up hope in rural India. Pain is good only in small, controlled amounts in specific situations. Otherwise, it's just a pain. Sorry for the depressing rant, but I'm against glorifying pain. It's a particularly ineffective tool to improve human beings, generally ruthlessly over-applied by nature.

Not exactly, follow healthy diet that comes with less price for cancer is more than enough to treat cancer like spinach, ginger, turmeric powder with milk and garlic rather than spending much on treatment.will power is all that you have to move with...✌

tell me who wants to die..everyone wants to save his life ..nothing inspirational in speech ...only rich peoples like film stars & business money can win but what about those people who cant spend crores of rupees...they die bzcoz they cant afford costly treatment...money give them life..everyone wants to live...we should make treatment at low cost by govt & ngo stars should help people..that would be truely being a human & truely inspirational

Congratulations and thanks to Ms. Manisha Koirala for this excellent inspirational personal narrative. She shares the pathos of diagnosis of cancer, the depths of helplessness during therapy and looking to the future with hope. The areas identified(health, friends, looking inwards) as important are relevant to every one in the community, and especially to the persons diagnosed with cancer and their caregivers. I have experienced similar change in my life, as a cancer survivor/victor.The challenges are as much spiritual as physical. This video must be seen by everyone to understand what it is to be diagnosed with cancer . Thank you Manisha. Wish you long healthy and fulfulfilling life. Prof. R. Srinivasa Murthy, Bangalore
