Great presentation ! Now I know who is holding the patent for the Polish variety of currants in US. Sounds like a road trip to NY is in order. I would love to shake Greg’s hand and thank him for what he has done for the currant industry in US . ❤️

I can't imagine life without blackcurrants! I have about 25 jars of blackcurrant jam in the garage (I make it in bulk because we get through so much of it) and kilos upon kilos in the freezer, ready to be made into tarts, crumbles, wine and cordial. I feel so sorry for Americans not knowing the joy of fresh, crusty bread spread with salty butter and smothered with blackcurrant jam and clotted cream. Yum!

These are the best currants I have ever tasted. I wish this brand was more available in Oregon! Ordered some concentrate!

I am Scottish - Blackcurrants are big here ! Soft fruit grows well in this country whereas we cannot grow tender fruits easily. Most of the commercial blackcurrant crop in the UK goes into Ribena blackcurrant diluting juice which has widespread consumption across UK, especially but not exclusively by kids. Other companies make blackcurrant juice too, but that's the big and most popular one. Blackcurrant jam is common on the supermarket shelves and many people make their own from their garden grown crop. I made some myself this year !

Strange that it always seems to be Blueberries that are promoted more than anything ,it really should be promoting Blackcurrants

Blueberries taste like wet soap.
@gardensofthegods3 жыл бұрын
@@ReyndOut sounds like you've had commercial type blueberries which or a hybrid a GMO and full of pesticides i guess . Trust me most Americans have never had real good healthy quality blueberries which tastes delicious ... same thing with most of their fruits and vegetables regretfully . That's one of the reasons why a lot of the produce here has not much flavor and people from countries like Persia ,southeast Asia , Italy , and southern France can't believe how horrible this food is here . And those countries it has so much more flavor

I have recently been eating a mix of seeds and dried currants on my breakfast cereal. Honestly, I didn't much care if they were the real currants or the small grapes. As far as I knew, either was healthy enough. Now, I hope they were the real thing.

I have a vaguely related question: how do I find out why clove trees are illegal? Or if they actually still are. I love cloves & I want to eat the fruit & make jelly & such.
@gardensofthegods3 жыл бұрын
Interesting very interesting and have you found out anything ? I can tell you that the dry clove has the highest amount of something-or-other ( I can't think of what it's called ) it is a eugenol meaning very high in reversing aging and having antioxidants or something like that . Personally I have never seen a clove plant or tree and don't really know what that fruit would look like in person before it dries . Please can you tell me what it taste like ?

Hi Greg Can you tell people the diifence between currant and raisan. People do not believe me When i see they are not related.
@gardensofthegods3 жыл бұрын
Just tell them to look it up . There's a whole long thing and Wikipedia and elsewhere about this Zante currant ... ... that's what brought me here as i thought i was eating a red currant yesterday only to find out it's actually a specific type of a small grape ... and therefore it was just another type of Raisin but very tasty

Illegal does not mean a man or woman cannot grow them and sell them privately to another man or woman. It means a legally registered business cannot grow and sell them to the public. Almost everything a man does is illegal, but perfectly lawful.
