The event was hosted in Oman Medical College, one which teaches the MD in English by a staff which are majority non-Arab. The audience and the organising committee were not comprised fully of Arabs, we had multiple nationalities amongst us. Speaking in English only would be very rude to all the participating non-Arab speakers. So, no, the speaker wasn't talking to "Arab people", nor was he talking to "American people". He was speaking to an audience of multiple nationalities, where the only common language is English. It's beautiful to include people, not to exclude them.
