Entrepreneur Richard Sudek discuses the fear of failure and its many benefits. He teaches us to embrace and learn from failure and its many forms.
Sudek is the Director of the Leatherby Center for Entrepreneurship and Business Ethics at Chapman University. He is also an active angel investor and Chairman Emeritus of Tech Coast Angels.

I was laid off. I was scared. I had failed. I was good enough to survive 3 layoffs. I let the 4th control my thoughts. Richard worked with me on my resume and interviewing skills. He said I have the skills/knowledge to be successful and to embraced failure. He explained it then and hearing his presentation I understand it better now. Two months later I got a better job at a better company with people who smile. Richard says he's happy for me. He should be, I succeeded at failure. Be happy.

Wow! I can relate to your "inadequacies" at 13:00. I feel the same sentiments that I should have achieved more success although most people would probably describe me as successful. There is an important message here. I had a similar discussion with my 12 year old yesterday about trying things until he succeeds and striking the phrase "I can't." from his vocabulary. I am going to share this with him. In fact, I am going to share this with my friends on Facebook and at the office....

TED is the best Channel Obviously. I have gained a lot from TED Meaningful messages from Richard Sudek I managed to eradicate 4 fears by listening to this videos and using an iPhone app "no fear" by hanumappa I think its all about having plan-B so that we can face fears head-ON

Why is failure so painful?? It’s almost addicting. The story one created to explain the failure away, the pain, the stress, the procrastination... how do I overcome failure in my life ? I am hopeful that things will get better, but where to start ?

I liked the idea that failure is purely a misperception of a "learning experience", but it seems to be rejected by fashion because it's the opposite of excitement. It was a favorite of the drug culture to use it as an excuse to "chill out", so that behaviour is actually the antithesis of the intent of teaching and learning. Press "Reset". An Engineer/Scientist tests materials and systems to the point of failure, it's dead, but that was the intention, the researchers use the information gained and science "lives on", proceeds. Rather than testing all things to destruction (once you get past 3yrs old) it's an obvious thing to do the research already prepared so as to design a possible future for testing.

This talk is a failure as individuals should not be encouraged to fail. One should set a high goal as a target and not accept failure as acceptable. As great leaders say, "Failure is not an option." Where would the US be today if more persons believed in the courage to fail?
