Is a melting pot all we can do? The melting pot is the cornerstone of the American immigration system, encouraging immigrants to assimilate instead of flourish individually. Rather than embracing multiculturalism, we are being forced to blend into society. Nitish’s talk highlights the nuances of maintaining his identity as a first-generation Indian American, and he hopes to inspire others to never lose what makes them unique. Nitish Gourishetty is a junior at Saint Francis High School. Inspired by his family’s involvement in technology and medicine, he is drawn to opening a world of new possibilities, immersing himself in a realm of engineering and biotechnology. In his free time, he loves doing Robotics, reading books, playing the guitar, and spending time with family and friends. With his experiences, he hopes to inspire others to find their identities and explore their passions. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
